Lincoln was one of the greatest ego driven tyrants that this country has ever seen, and anyone with half a brain can read his debates with Douglas in 1858 to see how racist he was, he simply changed his tune once he got to a higher office, typical example of political charades for the peasants underneath them. Lincoln sent Sherman's army of RAPISTS, THIEVES, and complete brainwashed soldier maniacs into MY state, and we will get our revenge if this country doesn't change ASAP !
Zeppelin Rocker, why is it that you consider alternative historical perspective to be racism? You have been misled by the mental monopoly of the public education system, most likely.
I agree with Thomas Jefferson and I think Rep. Stevenson does too.
"The future inhabitants of [both] the Atlantic and Mississippi states will be our sons. We think we see their happiness in their union, and we wish it. Events may prove otherwise; and if they see their interest in separating why should we take sides? God bless them both, and keep them in union if it be for their good, but separate them if it be better."
And for most people, that's an obscure reference. So from what I gather, he was either taught it as a child by friends/teacher/family, or he taught it to himself.
Another closet racist is not what the Republican Party needs right now, but they seem damned determined on polishing that image.
Hopefully when I grow up, the Republicans will be a little bit more sophisticated.
Ha ha ha, nope. Upon recently moving to North Carolina from Minnesota I realize many Southerners were taught that the north was being "aggressive" to the south even though the south fired the first shot at the north. How that means the north was more aggressive than the south I will never understand. Not all southerners I have met I would conciser ignorant though... FYI to anyone.
If someone comes into your home and you shoot them to defend your family and property, are YOU the agressor? Are they the good guy because they shoot back with a bigger gun and kill you? Too many people have been brainwashed to believe that the Civil War was about the noble cause of abolition. Horseshit. The federal government could have bought all the slaves and set them free a hell of a lot cheaper than a 5 year war and not cost one human life on either side. Do the math... FYI to you.
@669dan dumb hillbillies. The over riding issue of the Civil War was slavery. The "state right " to protect was slavery. Read the sucession commissioners rhetoric at the sucession conventions. Lincoln was an advocate for "colonization" of slaves. He wanted to send them back to Africa. In My opinion, the Northern States should have let your uneducated, brainwashed morons go.

Have you looked into the history of Lincoln's attempts to do this with the border states e.g. Delaware, Kentucky, etc.? They turned down compensated emancipation unequivocally. That was the border states. What chance then do you think there was that the cotton states would have said yes to that idea? The federal government may well have had the money but the Southern states would not take it.
Wow. A truthful statement from a politician.
