im 14 turning 15 and when i get my motorcycle license im hoping to go on a long trip with my friend for about 3 - 4 days how much money do you think i would need and i have a ninja 250r wich gets good gas millage
My wife and I are planning a trip through Northern BC. To Prince Rupert then down to Vancouver Island and back by way of Whistler then back home to Northern Alberta. Thanks for the tips.
Whats the furthest distance you've ridin in one day?love the vids I hope to have some up soon if I can make a mount for my camera,if you could make a vid on makeing a good mount both bike and helmet would be very helpfull...I know Im younger rider but been riddin since 04' and im still only on my second bike, first was 03'zuki bandit 600s,now im ridin 96'BMW K1100RS which is way better in every way except one the zuki sound I miss so much, ride safe brother..
@THEOZ2106 I think my longest was about 700 miles...Google "ram camera mount" and you should be able to find almost any type of motorcycle camera mount out there..I've been planning on doing a vlogging camera set up series, but I've not gotten around to it just yet =)..mebbe I'll work on it this weekend...
@billmaa Aww shucks, that's only 7 Hrs doing 100. XD JK I wouldn't do that >>. That must've been a long ride. Those bicycle shorts must've helped A LOT. :)
srry about my very late response i was talking about that the fuel was going so hard even harder than a car i know its hard for you to say oooo its that :P:P
Good stuff, man. Thanks for putting that out there. There's a lot of factors most people don't remember to consider when they plan a trip like this. I know it kind of goes unsaid, but, personally, I'd probably add into the budget (and luggage space, unless people prefer to mail that stuff) something for souvenirs. And also emergency fundage, or at least a back-up credit card in case something happens.
Oh yeah, I forgot to mention... I am seriously eyeballing that 2010 Multistrada. It's the only touring/adventure bike that makes me happy in my pants the way the 1098 did when it first came out. I am going to pay off the 1098 first (hopefully by the end of this year, assuming everything goes to plan). :)
Thanks, Billmaa! That was a very professionally done video! I too like to camp and ride; but I agree that on a long distance trip, they don't mix well. Too much time is taken up at the end of the day as well as the start of the day. That time needs to be budgeted in as well, and it's hard to budget in breaking down camp in the rain. There is just nothing I like better than packing up a wet tent.......
@really2ugly Yeah, mebbe if was 18 again I could pull it off..but there is something about a nice shower at the end of a long ride that makes the pain go away..=)
Jeez, finally. I've had my route all mapped out, and my bags have been packed for quite some time now. I just didn't know what to do after that. lol Great video, great intro. And those were a lot of porter potties outside of Taco Bell there.
@DJCipster4BREAKS I love camping, and love motorcycling.. But everytime i've mixed them, it doesn't turn out as well as I hoped lol..thanks for commenting Cip
Excellent info Billy. I had been thinking I'd bring up AMA on a vid. Glad to see you mention them here. Besides road side assistance, there are some retailers that will give members a discount. I figure I've earned back my $39 just in savings from buying gear online with the AMA discount.
Question though, what do you bring in terms of locks? I wouldn't want to randomly park my expensive stuff in a dodgy parking lot without proper security!
@dazzelya We bring a long Kryptonite cable lock and lock our bikes together...but when riding solo, I locked the bike to something else that wouldn't move..But the expensive stuff, ie cameras, GPS, laptop...I bring inside with me..
I'm such a cheap bastard, my food bill would be like $8.oo to $10.00 a day. I don't eat breakfast :-) Good job thats about how i plan my road trips & it works every-time.
@NamesLeo Lol, you could totally do it on 8-10 bucks day..but I think my stomach would cave in itself eatin on dollar menus and gas station burritos. =) Thanks for the comment
@jdog1129 Thank you, I gave some out as part of a contest I had (I still need to mail em..) but I think it's more fun to give em away than sell em.. Someday, I might think about it :)
@bfmv580 I know, I know =)...We're going to the west coast this summer...not making it to Alaska until I have a good few months more will healing up the knee =(
Thanks Billy.Have you ever encountered hotels that unofficially don't cater for motorcyclist and can you recommmend somewhere to stay close to Bonneville.
Am heading off for the day now and camping overnight.
@RedanWhiteRebel I stayed near the Salt Flats last year. A couple of miles west of there on the Nevada side are a ton of hotel casinos that can be had on the cheap. That's your best bet in the area.
Totally agree with the working out thing. Squats and ab work go miles to improving your long distance capability. Not to mention that losing 15 LBS would net roughly the same performance improvement as switching to an after market exhaust.
@Kodiak31415 That's true, I usually do a lot of shoulder and lat work as well..because even the best helmet can feel really heavy after 10 hours..Thanks for the comment
@JimNtexas Tracy and I average 400-500 miles a day...mostly because I love to film most everything. I'm sure it's going to cost way more but I'm kinda excited about trying it. Maybe just bring cellphone with GPS, and tire plugger. Oh and a sharpie. Of course wallet with stuff in it. Oh and vloggin stuff. Wait maybe at least a back pack. Doood! I'm diggin this get up and go thing/idea you just gave me.
@Itsreload I think go run would be alot of fun, but I have such limited time off (and a set goal of all 50 states) that I have to plan a bit..but I do really like the idea..=)

I spent about $120-150/day on that trip to New Mexico I just did, pretty much in line with your figures. How many miles a day do you typically ride?
When I get a topbox for my bike I'm going to consider taking a small tent and using it one night in three, it wouldn't take long to pay for the tent.
Last question, have you stayed in hostels? I did that a lot when I was stationed in England, but never have in the USA.
