  • in NY, any new housing complexes are required to reserve 30% of its vacancies to affordable rates. So stop crying and learn some basic economics.

  • I am a Russian dude and I can't stand those Mid-westerners that move here they do in fact steel our jobs and drive the price of rent up. Bushwick, Bedstuy, canarsie, East NY, etc.... all of these neighborhoods were ethnic enclaves that had a certain charm to them. Now that these country people are moving here the city is loosing its charm. Some of these hipsters are even more rude than ghetto people. NY is a city of immigrants it is not Portland.

  • Anyone else see the irony in Latinos throwing a fit about white people taking over their neighborhood?

  • @italiaholic I bet the mohicans see the irony.

  • All this "spoiled white hipster trash" is really freaking me out. Why the fuck should I suddenly be scared for my white friends to walk down the street. Prejudice is Helpless. I wish people would realize that. Instead of targeting other people, being ignorant and spawning violence, you should Fight for a cause- For people-- and against greedy developer bullshitters who are the real perversion. I really really hope this doesn't turn into hateful suggestive racism. FUCK THAT SHIT.

  • This is so true....it's not just Bushwick either. Gentrification is good to an extent. we all should be able to enjoy peaceful city living but renters shouldn't have to be forced out when all the developers are putting up building for purchase only. :(

  • I did an expose for school on the Gentrification of Cabrini Green, The Jungles, The 5th Ward, and Hunters Point. It generated a lot of conversation (176k views) please check it out and let me know what you think.

    Search "Urban Documentary"

I'll add a video response here, you can add yours to mine too.

  • Seems to me like you just don't like the shoe being on the other foot. Nobody stuck up for us when we were getting pushed out of East Boston by Mexicans, the politicians on the news said we were racist for wanting to preserve Maverick Square's identity.

Now it's happening to you, you guys are losing your blocks and now you're crying like it's so bad, but you didn't give 2 shreds when you were doing it to us. Just think about that before you start whining about gentrification.

  • if it wasnt for gentrification, places in the city would be an absolute shit hole. im afraid to walk thru some of those areas during the day.

  • you have this shit all over the world. efficient way to make a lot of money

  • Gentrification is the politically correct way of saying "too many rich white folks are moving into our community. We don't like that." But I have to say, we are just as guilty. Years ago, we all fled to the suburbs when too many blacks and minorities moved in. Now the pendulum has swung back. The number of young white yuppies that have flocked to cities in recent years has exploded.

  • Umm….. Gentrification makes neighborhoods better. Show me a ghetto where it is safe to live and raise children to be better members of scocity. Now show me where a bunch of well to do white folk took over an urban neighborhood and made it worse?

All I hear in this video is “Wah wah wah, white people are moving in and rising the property value because a white neighborhood is a more desireable neighborhood .”

  • @Yereviltwin2 you're absolutely right. most of these places before gentrification are uneducated, low income, crime ridden areas. And this isnt' just about white people moving in, its about better people moving in, and they are white, black, asian, and latino as well. going to williamsburg is so much better these days as opposed to 10 years ago. I actually desire to go there. Now why is that bad? No one wants bad areas in a city where we should avoid.

  • gentrifiers = middle class or upper class hipster transplants that are unemployed yet supported by their parents income. These individuals move into low-income neighborhoods and spew vapid irony everywhere. Beware!

  • @kevin122100 HEY YOU!!! THAT'S GOOD BUSINESS YOU KNOW!! WOULD YOU PREFER CLOSED-MINDEDNESS OVER DIVERSITY!

  • @kevin122100

Thats right. These people, mostly White come from their mommys home in Texas , Seattle & TAKE AWAY

everything Authentic about NYC. It becomes Fucken Stiff Ville with Out Culture. Eventually what happens is that they leave because "This is Not a Place to raise kids." After having drank themselves to death & spent thousands on a sad life. Their parents think they are doing fine.

  • gentrifiers = people with jobs who raise their children and make positive contributions to society.

  • @ProgressiveAction10 THERE YOU GO!!!!!!

  • @ProgressiveAction10 kicking out poor people, ah... so positive...
