  • Can I hire the melvins for my office Christmas party too?

  • Even better than the studio versions, especially "Oven"

  • The generic lighting in the club makes it look like they're playing in the middle of an office.

  • I wish I was dale, but with my brain. So I could be dale and think "THIS IS AWESOME!" Because if i WERE dale i probably wouldn't be a big fan of his, do you get it?

  • JOE

  • Can someone tell me what the first song is? Or list the songs? Thanks!

  • @nicantlacaroots First song is Antioxidate (Pigs Don't Let It), second is Oven, don't know the third it's probably from an EP

  • @blueguitarist

    Euthanasia.

  • Buzzo still uses that guitar!

  • So what is the component on Dale's set that looks a bit like a transparent lamp shade?

  • @jonanjello looks like part of a roto-tom ?

  • @jonanjello

Probably something he found in a junk yard somewhere.

  • dale is the man

  • wonder how many ribbon crashers Dale goes through in a year!

  • dales just fuckin hammering

  • this was when bethesda was cool

  • amazing sound and video...In there prime !

  • OMG! he has put on so much weight. Not that cute looking guy in '84 anymore.

  • Can someone tell me the set list for this clip please? The songs they play? Would help me a lot guys...

  • @erasergead321:

    "Antitoxidote"/Eggnog

    "Oven"/Ozma

"Euthanasia"/Dope, Guns, & Fucking in the Streets Vol. 4-7

  • Thank you very much my friend.

  • DALE KILLS IT IN THIS VID!!!

  • god damn. that's all...

  • Dale Crover is one of the best drummers ever....

  • @KurtCobain11508

    Yes.

  • i love how buzz gets right into Oven. sweet shit.

  • I saw them on this tour in Boston at the Rat opening for the Cows (with The Tulips opening for them - their first show). They OPENED with Charmikarmacat - which I had yet to hear. The low rumbling sub octave guitar was real confusing. And Nirvana were there. Great, super memorable show.

  • If I only I had been born at the time this video was taken. Bethesda isn't too far from here, either. Damn.

  • what's that funky lookin cymbal on dale's set? looks like a hubcap

  • it's a rototom with the head removed. I've seen a few people utilize this, makes quite a clang

  • oh cool. that's not the thing that was making that buzzing noise on the bullhead album was it?

  • No, that's a bell ride I think. He had that weird snappy thing from 'Anaconda' though - it was three bowed pieces of wood. His symbols were TRASHED when I saw 'em - like, huge chunks missing.

  • @bryneyk

...not sure what cymbals he used on Bullhead...one had a "Chinese" sound or was miked weird for Your Blessened.

  • "and you say god wants to heal cancer..."

  • @mhofkp

    "Alcohol is good.."

  • Shit yeah motherfucker. Pigs don't let it!

  • Melvins 1991 -- when loud ruled. God damn do I miss those days.

  • buzzos haircut is a little out there in this vid

  • i was at this show...I remember when Buzz walked to the bathroom when he got mad that the other guys didn't want to play quietly any more....wildness.

  • now how could that be, that he HATES loud music?!?! that's thrown me for a loop. totally disillusioning.

  • the video focused on buzzo but what about the bass player? i thought he was pretty good too.

  • God this makes them look like bands you see play now that go nowhere. NOT SAYING that this is bad. All due respect to the sacred Melvins. They are our lords and masters.

  • Awesome video

  • This is the best, thanks for uploading it.

    Best band ever.

  • Jesus fucking Christ. The sound and image quality on this is beautiful, thank you very much for posting! Euthanaisia on here is probably the coolest early Melvins I've seen on YouTube. Where the fuck are they playing, the cafeteria of a K-mart or a Junior High School? 8 years after the band formed, 2 years before a major label release and Crover is BURYING the past 30 years of Rock and Roll drumbing.

  • They are playing at the Bethesda American Legion Hall which was immortalized by Mary Chapin Carpenter in her middle of the road 1990s hit "Down at the Twist and Shout."

  • Yeah, that song definetely kicks ass...get yourself that DVD released on Box Dog Video where it is featured in an even more powerfull version.

  • that third song is called "euthanasia".(yuthanagia)

it was released on a 7 inch. it also appears on the melvins "salad of at thousand delights"

live dvd.First one is hard to get ,the dvd

    should be available.

  • thank you, jesus christ you'd think out of what seems like 1000 amazing songs youve heard them all, but then BOOM, one you havent heard and it just nails you to the wall. Thank god for The Melvins

  • is that third song a cover? i havent heard it before. Sounds fuckin amazing though

  • Did I tape this one? Is this your tape or did you get this from a trader? I used to zoom inappropriately and while my memory puts me on the right side of the stage, this looks like my camera work.

The show was at the "Twist and Shout" club at the Bethesda, MD American Legion Hall. It was a month or two after the Melvins played at the International Pop Underground Convention in Olympia, WA

  • This was a safe sex flavored show with free blue rubbers. I remember that Buzz walked off stage because he wasn't into it. I think the always boring Egg's played too.

  • The Melvins and TOOL, are the only two groups that NEVER get old for me. I dabble in alot of different types of music, but I ALWAYS fall back on both TOOL and The Melvins.

    This is an amazing video.

  • dont know much bout the melvins i have 2 albums though (bullhead and houdini), good stuff

but lol the dude on the right looks like Carlito (out of the wwe)

dale is an amazing drummer though

  • anybody know the venue? Does it still exist. I'm in MD, just wondering. CHEERS! melvinsrule

  • I LOVE THIS<333

  • Thanks.

  • ooohhh.. Fantastic! Didn't know Dale hit the drums with his head...

  • do you have this entire performance? i'd pay cash for it.

  • Antitoxidote: Pigs Don't Let It, Oven and ?

  • Euthenasia.

  • fucking awesome. thanks for posting.

  • Thanks for posting this!

  • WOW!!! Thank you for sharing this.

  • This is awesome, but I'm a little confused... I didn't think Joe was in the band at this point...

  • my bad. melvins bethesda is fall 1991.

  • Joe 1991-92

Lori Black 1987-91 and then returned later in 92'

  • @Chief10beers I think that when I saw them at about this time frame King was bitching about Preston being wasted all the time. He came out to the bar and talked for quite awhile about how Alchemy Records screwed them and saying they couldn't keep Joe up right. What's funny is I think this was Buzz's entire wardrobe at the time because he had on a red shirt and I believe cheap blue slacks when we saw them. I swear Dale's kit was gold with a HotWheels sticker when i saw them around this time.
