This looks like it was filmed live on sets with CGI elements, not rendered entirely. Absolutely stunning. The glasses in the briefing room, and the HDR response to the lights in the captain's yacht bay blew me away. I can't imagine how much work went into this, but I can guess. Time well spent.
The interiors absolutely had me fooled, it's amazing work. I was wondering where you got the live action footage of the ready room; couldn't believe it when i read the description at it's all CGI. Congrats on a fantastic piece of work.
I'm an avid modeller and work with physical models all the time, I'm also very familiar with the way Star Trek 'looks' and I have to say sir that this looks incredible! It actually looks like a scale model or set. Wow.
Stunning work in both the modeling and the animation! Incredibly realistic, with a feeling of real substance that most CGI work lacks. Phenomenal job!
OMFG this is amazing! I thought it was a set, at first. I was like,"Wait...this is CG? No way! Is it?? Holy crap..IT IS!!" BEAUTIFUL job! As others have already mentioned, hope to see your work in a movie soon!
Actually, the small vessel is most properly referred to as "the Captain's Gig", and not exactly a yacht. Most U.S. aircraft carriers (including the Enterprise CVN-65) had a small motorboat called the captain's gig, but these are being phased out now to make more room for other things and to reduce maintenance costs.
Ive been following your work on sci fi meshes from the outside without an account for awhile and this video is simply inspiring in every way i CANT stop watching it! AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!
You, sir, are among the best that I have ever seen on YouTube. I hope to see your name in the credits of a show (or dare I even say movie?) at some point in the future. I'd love to see additional projects of yours - external full-ship shots and the like - because what I saw here felt like it was real.
That is the MOST impressive CG render of the interiors of the Enterprise I have ever seen. Completely flawless and really beautiful. I especially like the arrival into the hangar for the Captain's Yacht and it's subsequent launch.
I thought this was some DVD extra using the actual sets until I read the comments; I have a difficult time believing that isn't real life and is, in fact, CGI. Incredibly impressive.
This is AWESOME! The best bit is the view of the nacelles out of the observation lounge window! Finally you can get a visceral sensation of being on board the ship that either TNG nor any of the movies were able to convey when you were near a window. Could you do one for the 1701-D?
excellent render! mental ray? i see no flaws. the final gather is super clean. the lighting effects are excellent! does the table top have a translucent shader? overall super good job!
@artofnick the rooms had baked radiosity but other than that there is none, just area lights and point lights without shadows for bounce lighting, the table top has a simulated look of translucency but no actual translucency
I didn't realize I was watching CGI...it's THAT good. You've just shown us all that with the tools and the talent, we can explore aspects of the Star Trek universe that they never could on TV, and it can look just as good if not BETTER.
You made my jaw drop. I'm actually working on some lightwave scenes for a Star Trek / Star Wars crossover fan film. Unfortunately my skill is no where near your level of professionalism. I did make a model of the Enterprise-E corridor a while ago.
Would you be interested in helping with the animations? It sure would save me money on building sets.
Wowthis is probably "the" cleanest vid I have ever seen of the yatch and the observation lounge! When I placed the vid on 1080p, it looks so realistic, especially of the view in the observation lounge looking out the window at the engine nacelles, it left me speechless. Great job IRML...... hope you get some views of the bridge and engineering, it woul be stellar work if you do to add on to these other two vids you have now. Once again, GREAT JOB!!!
@supramike67 I second that IRML. This is the most realistic I have ever seen, It felt like I was really there. Please do some additional views like supramike67 suggested. A view of the bridge or warp core would be awesome.
@Kenny4842 I'm with both of them.I seriously thought this was a filming set. You work is extreamly well done. Please continue making these short videos.

One small thing I noticed at the end:
There seems to be a little too much parallax on the planets surface. Try to move it further away and then scale it to the appropriate size.
Really impressive man!
