I'm not going to thumb this either way, because what you have here is a boiled down made for TV version of BR if it was made in to a TeleDrama. Which is not too bad, but calling it a new opening for the film, is rather taking away what the film was expositing in the 1st place for that entire opening sequence.
God help us if you are already in the industry. In addition completely destroying the sense of grandeur and awe inspired by the original opening, you've replaced the haunting musical accompaniment with a rendition inspired by The Gong Show Orchestra. Some advice? Don't try to work on pieces you don't understand. If you know and love masturbatory action sequences, please go help make the next Sucker Punch movie. If you excell at simple perhaps a nice Justin Beiber film would be more your speed.
@feebleman "you've replaced the haunting musical accompaniment with a rendition inspired by The Gong Show Orchestra" lol. i guess you're not that familiar with the film, nor did you read my description of the changes. that's the end titles music simply moved from there to the beginning. but thanks for the advice. :)
Would like to see more, but you are probably limited in how energetic you can make this movie. E.g. there's only one car for starters, if you were doing this from scratch it could be more chaotic, like the fifth element. The whole movie is broody so good luck
@fookfocketyfookfook well the idea wasn't to make it more energetic, though that might have been the result. the idea was simply to cut out what i felt was over-attention paid to the scenery and background and focus more on the plot. so more like the 40s noir detective films it was modeled on, not as some have suggested, mtv or michael bay. as you can see from one of the commenters at fanfilm.org (see new link in the description), even with all that cut out he was still bored by it.
@deepstructure For me the scenery/lanscapes and the music were the best parts. The frightening but awesome way LA looks in the future and the gargantuan Tyrell building with it's impossible architecture was a statement saying, "This is what humanity is capable of, this is where we're going". It made it entirely plausible that we would create life for utility/amusement in the name of progress. The noir style kept it real so we don't see them as future people, because people don't change.
@fookfocketyfookfook The awesome way LA looked? I'm sorry but the city was decaying, full of pollution and chaos. Tyrell's extremely glorious buildings were trying to indicate the huge gap between the rich and the poor, and the poverty that is caused by this domination of industries.
@MentleMedia I agree looks really cool but thinking of living there pratically and nah I mean massive skyscrapers ect fine but how we view modern living today so say an environmental blade runner city with that style but clean then I'd say yes.
@deepstructure The long shots of the city serve an important purpose. The intention is to give the viewer a full look of the futuristic world. there are many concepts and themes that this brings about. Like the domination of corporations over the common person. The pollution that has eliminated most animal life on the planet. The extreme gap between the wealthy, Tyrell, and the rest of the city. The blend of world cultures. I'm sure I am forgetting some things. The details add more depth imo.
@MentleMedia i would disagree that the shots intentionally convey that information (i believe most specific symbolism in film is extracted by the viewer, not installed by the creator), but regardless, i have two objections to this type of argument: 1) subtext - assuming it's intentional, you're still describing the underlying messages of the film - subtext shouldn't be front and center. 2) there's so much of it in this film, taking some out isn't going to hurt that aspect of it.
@TheLeoOfCostaRica haha, it's certainly no michael bay version. i'd have to thrown in a bunch of ridiculous explosions, furiously quick-cut action scenes where you can't tell what's going on and a bunch of moronic racial stereotyped "humor" scenes for it to be that. :)
@Maatmalat wow, that's amazing considering all i i did was use footage from the original film. i take out some scenes and all of a sudden it's audiovisual pornography?
sorry but this sucks. we all know these movies today is who are just a remake of something that has been already done perfectly and know what? they all suck.;) Blade Runner is a freakin masterpiece and im tired of wannabe directors out there trying to get a foot in the door by ruining such great movies. hope you never make it into the industry because we have enough directors in hollywood to fuck up good movies with remakes over and over again.
@LostEquinox too late, i'm already in the industry. :) and this isn't a remake - it's just a different edit. i'm not trying to get any foot in the door by doing this. i did it because it was fun and i had a feeling i would like the movie better this way. unlike you, i don't have seven versions of a masterpiece to watch. but now at least i have one. :)
@actingscenes it is now. perhaps you're underestimating the ability of the film to be more than one thing to one person. besides, if there's nothing wrong with the "original," why are there seven versions of it? :)
Ok, interested in seeing seeing more of your cut.
i think the pace of film necessitates a slow graceful ark of movement and imagery. It's not designed to be an mtv video. They painstaikingly set the tone of the film with the first minute of slow rythmic scenery. But us fans are always welcome to new interpretation so go for it and post more.
@chaucer44 one person's majesty is another person's masturbation. ever heard the saying, "less is more"? i think the images are beautiful, but i'm far more interested in getting into the story and not interested in ridley's fascination with scenery.

The pacing is not that good... but I like the quick cut to Leon's scene, more dramatic and focused

There was nothing wrong with the original film. It is a mood piece not a police procedural or TV show pace
