Some players have said that they would prefer him playing a tele. I love the tone he gets out of that Ernie Ball. It's got the tele twang and strat out of phase sound.
@badewannenfreak94 Steve Morse is awesome. I tend to think of him as more of a country-infused fusion player than a full-blown country player like Albert, though.
how can you respond? linguistically? I saw him in 1972 in the front row at shaffer music festival nyc outdoors in the summer. same thing as this video. a life changer as a guitarist. i wonder when this was shot.
If you like this, may I suggest viewing Joe Maphis' instrumental " Fiddlin' on the Guitar". It is on Youtube. Albert has to have heard this superb picker !
@bj4paul. Very appropriate handle. Albert Lee wouldn't know me from a hole in the wall. Neither would ilovejacobmiller. But I met him a couple of times between 1971 and 1973 because he was going out with a girl from Wales who was a close friend of mine. I saw that he was so far ahead of anybody in the rock guitar world, hence the name "the guitar player's guitar player." So, I've followed his career ever since. Insulting ilovejacobmiller is like insulting his daughter. Show respect.
Available cheap: One busted-in-half Fender Telecaster guitar that I busted in half after watching this video... I have since taken up the tamborine as my instrument of choice! (-;
i'm not a huge fan of country but i still get blown away from his guitar skill...the precision and speed is like his fingers must be mae of pure gold mixed with unicorn tears i swear
There are or was only 4 guitar players in the history truly unimitable: (of course) Jimi Hendrix-Roy Buchanan-Albert Lee-Jeff Beck and maybe, Michael Angelo.
How the hell? I just watched him do this for a concert on the tv and my frame rate couldn't keep up with his hands! Damn, this sure beats the wind out of the metalheads, Albert Lee rules!
Why do people insist on comparing who's the best instead of simply enjoying the video and guitar player featured here? No matter if you like someone else better, this guy is phenomenal and will out pick any of us. If you would rather watch another player, then please go watch their videos and STFU.
Albert Lee, the very best guitar player anywhere!!.....he and his peeps were friends of mine on My Space, just as sweet as could be...there are a few that I miss, and Albert and his crew were ones that I have missed..Love them all!! Thx 4 posting......phyllis
lmao, amazing! I loved this song so much when it was originally released - 1979?? It's the reason I wanted to learn the guitar, and it's also the reason why I gave up trying...
@bj4paul i disagree and i listen to people like David Gilmore and buddy guy and Eric Clapton. its just a different feeling but its very much real. you can tell :P
@bj4paul. Perhaps you are just saying that because you could a) never write such a popular or iconic song or b) play it. I find that people who criticize such brilliant playing are jealous or don't have the capacity to understand the brilliance.
@bj4paul Dude... Have you tried playing over this progression? Its hard to do slow... especially tastefully. And all that country picking technique and phrasing. I admit, "brilliant" is thrown around losely but definitely not "nothing special" and definitely not just "extremely fast" playing. I think your ears are broken.
@bj4paul Just checked out your channel and the guy who was playing guitar in it bored me to death. so I'm writing you from beyond the grave to tell you kind sir that in order to write the garbage you have spewed from your fingers, you really have to show some arrogance and rather overflowing amounts of hatred towards music like this..which you clearly have.
@bj4paul thats your idea of brilliant. yes einstein was a genius, but if it boils down to it, many people would call this man a genius because of his mastery over the guitar as many would call perhaps eric clapton a genius... a self taught musician who is regarded as one of the greatest musicians ever.
Sterling Ball on bass. These guitars are better "than" [ not then you retard] a Les Paul or a fender because everything stock on this guitar is high quality . No paying $ 2,000 for a guitar with shitty pickups or in Gibsons case terrible machine heads. Jimmy and Albert come from the same English scene 1960. Jimmy was an excellent studio technician but after 5 years with LZ his live playing was pretty weak cause he was always so fucked up, unlike Albert who always plays like the pro he is,dig it!
@westwindband09 Not even comparable... Albert's fingers are fast and he has a vast array of licks, but just consider Jimmy's creativity. Go back and listen to all the acoustic works of Page.
Albert has a technique that just in a few time with an Ibanez with a Floyd Rose whammy bar send Steve Vai in an hotel room to spare a bullett in his head! Jimmy Page it's great for his ideas gave into Zep group...but he haven't the ability of Albert.
He doesn't even use distortion! What a Gramps! You think by now he'd be able to afford a good guitar like a Les Paul or an Ibanez with a Floyd Rose whammy bar!
@itriedmany HAHHAHAHAHAHA! You must be joking, right? He has Eric Clapton's old Les Paul from when he played with Cream, and he doesn't have to hide behind distortion because he is a precise player. Jimmy Page and he happened to be good friends when they were teenagers and I am positive Jimmy would not say anything but positive about Albert. Dude, if you don't like COUNTRY MUSIC than don't comment.
@MustangSally72 I'm not sure I get your comment. Are you implying he's wanking? If so, I don't think you could be further from the truth. Typically "mastrubation" with an instrument would imply disregarding tone, tempo, rhythmic structure, and composition. Is that what you're saying?
don't forget he was the player emmylou harris chose to replace james burton when james left the hot band an english country picker from hell luv ya albert
I'm a rock/fusion guitarist, and I love rock, and any great music, but I have to admit that there's not a snowball's chance in hell that most rock guitarists would dare attempt to play at that speed, and pick every note without using plenty of distortion to mask any flaws! Not only that, but Albert's playing is totally clean, with no effects, distortion and in the treble/bridge pickup position, the most telling of all! And it's telling us that he's one of the best in the world!
I've dug Albert for years. A buddy said I ought to check out T E. That guy left me irritated...too impressed with himself and all the soul of frozen pumpkin pie.
@penn4644 dude tommy emmanuel and Lee are in the same vein of playing and mindset behind showmanship, they are both humble as fuck and shit out soul from their guitars and assholes. Praising one of them and dissing the other, you are a goddamn heathen.
@penn4644 Then you obviously haven't listened to much of Tommy's stuff. He's an amazing player that has a gift for making anyone he plays with look good. I've met him, and can tell you that he's quite humble, especially for a man that's been called the greatest living fingerpicker more than once. (Never by himself). You might want to acquaint yourself a little better with his work before you start casting dispersions. I love Albert Lee’s music. Have for years. Btw, This isn't a sport...
@KHGuitarFreak1988 An artist can be supremely masterful at his or her musical craft, ( which I'll concede T E is ) and still affect one the wrong way. I don't get that feeling from Albert or Gatton or tons of others. I do not expect others to necessarily agree with me. I still ( after many performances viewed ) think T E is as humble as Ted Nugent ! Having digressed, Albert Lee is king in all aspects of musical experience ! Cheers again !

Thers's really only one logical and reasoned thing to say to this vid and that, YYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE HHHHHHHHHHHHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAWWWWWWWWWWWW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I don't think the point was to impress anyone, it's just one of his signature songs. It's part of his style and has a grace to it that's hard to beat. Keep in mind too the Albert Lee never really hit it big on his own but he was and still is one of the most sought after studio musicians in the world. The best of the current and previous generation all name him as inspiration, even Clapton and BB King look to him. Even if he never made Rolling Stones list of the 100 greatest guitarist.
He's a great player, but to me all that speed and technique has little or nothing to do with music. It's missing the point, in my opinion, unless the point is to impress other guitarists.
Yes, "Mr. Telecaster" can really play. He is a guitar players guitar player! I see he is playing an Ernie Ball custom Music Man guitar with a B-bender. He is awesome!
That is generally how it goes. People get to intimidated by someone who is really that good. But I am not. I know how proficient I am, and I would kill to sit down and jam with this guy. He is frickin chickin pickin great. The best their is as what he does, no doubt.
heads hands and feet were so far ahead of their time . albert lee just keeps getting better and better ,,, if you can find any heads hands and feet vinyl pick it up and sit down and listen . I think the double album is by far the best
