  • Igor, great tune. Love the tubey guitar solo. You have chops! :) Hey, I've been looking thru the manual; no luck - can you record 2 mono tracks at one time? Example: I want to double trk my bass, 1 direct/2 mic'd, but not to stereo, to 2 mono trks that I can blend. Is it possible on the r8? If so, where is that info? I'm going to keep searching for an answer, but thought you may know. Thanks!

  • @mattyb3671 Hi Mat,

Yes you can do 2 mono recordings. Plug bass to Input 1, set input selector to HiZ, arm track 1. Plug Mic to Input 2, selector to Mic, arm track 2. Thats it. Direct signal will be on track 1, Mic - track 2. Its very straightforward.

  • @bobritsky thanx dude! i found it on p25 in the manual; just took me & my great brain a few reads to accept the info. rock on! :D

  • Sounds like Little Feat!

  • @jman8964 sorry - LIttle who?

  • @jman8964 aah

    googled it, thanx ))

  • I dig this. I just purchased the R8 a couple of hours ago. I am clueless to this whole recording thing. What kind of mic would you recommend if I just want to record acoustic music?

  • @haneoblu hi!

I think you can easily start with R8 onboard mics - they are quite good condenser mics and you will get good clear stereo picture.

For more precise recordings I'd advice you some of numerous industry-standard instrumental mics like Shure SM57 (try to google them). It really depends on what instrument you'll record.

But good combination will be recording 2 mics simultaneously - 1 instrumental to catch instrument + 1 condenser (like in R8) to catch room

  • Hi Igor, from nowhere southern Indiana, USA. First, EXCELLENT playing in a number of styles; ya got chops! Also, got a great singer in your band (I Wish-S. Wonder). I have been looking at getting back into some recording on my new (used) iMac and am interested in the R8 as an audio interface and daw controller. For me, the portable full blown recorder would be just a nice addition. I can't find any real discussions of the preamp quality for DAW input anywhere. Any thoughts? Thanks, Ken

  • @KDMandu hi Ken and thx for feedback!

I use R8 as my main audio interface and thats why I've sold my Focusrite Saffire 6 USB.

Mostly I record electric guitar and bass directly to R8 and use its internal effects for making up sound. Talking bout preamps - they are great to my taste. Check specs from Zoom site and compare to some industry-standard unit like M-Audio etc. I suppose there will no big difference. Talking about effects - I really dig R8 internal effects! ampsims are good,efx-2

  • Love "Mr. Cat", great song.

  • Nice tracking...I'm actually deciding whether to go the Zoom R8 or Tascam Dpoo8 for porable on the go studio that I am hoping won't be too disappointing soundwqise, and this is definitely tempting me to consider the R8, which, as I understand it, also doubles as a DAW control surface. ONce again...impressive track!

  • @wickmanblue thanx for comments

Feature-wise R8 gives much more than Tascam

you can really do complete tracks away from any PC or studio.

  • Hey man its me again..I was just wondering..I plug in direct from my amp and it doesnt sound right. On my previous tracks i have recorded the sound was like amazing. I tested both my cables and im wondering if its my amp or the R8..Does yours do this too?

  • @Hellawaits35 hmmm..

probably it's because there's too much "amping" when you take signal from your amp to R8 input and use internal amp simulators.

try to switch internal INSERT effects off. or turn off PREAMP section of effect chain.

I dont have amp so I plug to R8 directly.

  • Looking around for information on this little recorder and I found your song. I have to say I think it's absolutely brilliant, very like early Jeff Beck in places, you are really talented and I will listen to this over and over, but I get the feeling that even if I bought this multi-track recorder I'm not going to sound like this:-) Keep recording and posting, great stuff, a happy tune that made my day. Thanks.

  • @mrtelechi

    thank you for kind words!

I wonder how high I could jump if I weren't soooo lazy to practice ))

    thanx again

  • @bobritsky Sounds to me like you don't need that much practice, I've been playing semi-pro for 20 years or more and I couldn't sound that good practicing every second I have left! Would you mind if I downloaded your song and converted it to play on my MP3 player? There would be no-offense taken if you said no, it's just for me and my family to listen to, but I wouldn't do it without your permission. But regardless of that, you deserve the praise, great tune;-)

  • @mrtelechi

thanx again mate. Of course you can take that tune with you..

God bless you and your family.

    BR,

    Igor.

  • @peyoteblues

thanx mate. bass is from my Line6 Variax 500 guitar.

  • Beautiful!

  • @ElectraOmega

    thanx man!

  • I was going to ask for a general rundown of setting on that flanged guitar, then I realized you were probably using insert effects from the R8 itself. Would you mind telling us specifically which patches you used for guitar?

    Great work, as always.

  • @GodsMan500

    hi, sorry for late reply!

patch is from Clean bank - Fdcomp. I've tweaked it a little - added Phaser effect.

  • To me, it sounds like Larry Carlton (which is a very good thing!).

  • Nice I like it!!!!
