Nihao, Peggy. I would write in proper chinese, but my work computer doesn't have chinese script enabled. Anyway, I saw this video and went looking for some mandarin tongue-twisters. There are quite a few fun ones online. what's your favorite tongue-twister?
Once, I was practicing Mandarin Chinese numbers with one of my friends. I found out that in some parts of Mainland China, they pronounce 'Shi' as 'Si'. I kept insisting with my friend that Ten was 'Shi' and she kept insisting it was 'Si'. Zhen qi guai! (very strange!) haha
Ni hao, Peggy! Wo guanxi ni videos (how do you say that in putonghua?). Please, could you explain how "articles" ("the," and "a") are used in Mandarin. Xiexie ni.
i should have watched this one before trying that tongue twister i sent you in email lol. im still practicing it. it all sounds the same when i try hahah... even my chinese friend say its hard to say that one.... you should make a vid someone of saying that tongue twister, giving us a chance to try it out. well i already tried... needs more practice haha. :)
peggy, can you a video explaining some of the differences in pronunciation for the way Taiwanese people speak? For example you usually teach that "I am Peggy" is "wo shi peggy" but when I am around my TW friends it sounds more like they say "wo si peggy" and I've heard you say it this way before too...actually, I've heard you say it both ways and so I'm confused. Which way should I say it in order to sound more "fluent" to my Taiwanese friends? Thanks!
@alynking79 The correct pronunciation is "shi4" but I guess when people speak in daily life, we simply don't polish our pronunciation so much. But when I teach, I have to try to pronounce each word carefully and precisely, so it'd be "shi4". :)
Wow nice video! Though iam chinese too, but my mandarin is communicable but horrible. haaaa. Anyway you're kinda look kinda hot in this video! Good job!
LOL that's exactly what I thought. He sounds just like Arnold Schwarzenegger! "Cohagen! Give these people air! ARRRRHHHRRHHHH!!!!!" Sorry that was my best Arnie impression without sounds.
The way I personally make the difference between 2 and 3 is that 2, I treat it purely as I'm asking a question and 3, treat it as if I'm purposely elongating the sound.
It sounds weird, but at least my roommates can tell the difference and can understand it better. XD
difference between the 2nd and 4th tone are not very hard - but having a really hard time hearing difference between 2nd and 3rd. Only way I can tell is to me third sounds longer and flatter, but I don't really hear it fall and rise
說快的話。 我也說不來呢。
這個大舌和小舌很多中國南方人、臺灣人、海外中國人都有問題。

Taiwanese people have a habit of saying "shi" as "si."
Question to Christ from Germany:
Can you please tell me the difference between you and Arnold Schwarzenegger? You just sound the same to me. Thanks. :P

A very famous movie star who is best known as the star in the first three "Terminator" movies, and is currently the Governor of California.
His name in Chinese is "阿諾 史瓦辛格".
