  • i prefer this over HOTfor words

  • Nihao, Peggy. I would write in proper chinese, but my work computer doesn't have chinese script enabled. Anyway, I saw this video and went looking for some mandarin tongue-twisters. There are quite a few fun ones online. what's your favorite tongue-twister?

  • @doaLeon Is it German, Italian or Romansh???

  • @PeggyTeachesChinese

It's German :-) (my native language)

  • @doaLeon The only word I know in German, which is the most important word in a language is: Danke! :)

  • Ni hen piaoliang...liedande ye shi !! wo xiang wo ai ni !! zhe shi kenengde ma ??

  • Lol I didn't expect Arnold Schwarzenegger to show up in this video! I'm sure it's him, sounds just the same

  • that guy from germany sounds exactly like arnold schwarzenegger

  • Once, I was practicing Mandarin Chinese numbers with one of my friends. I found out that in some parts of Mainland China, they pronounce 'Shi' as 'Si'. I kept insisting with my friend that Ten was 'Shi' and she kept insisting it was 'Si'. Zhen qi guai! (very strange!) haha

  • @fernandesfran Interesting. There is always a regional difference with every language. :)

  • Ni hao, Peggy! Wo guanxi ni videos (how do you say that in putonghua?). Please, could you explain how "articles" ("the," and "a") are used in Mandarin. Xiexie ni.

  • C'mon Peggy! You're SUCH a voyeur lol! But I like it; and you teach very well!

  • @OuKrokodil I didn't know what "voyeur" means but I just looked it up. o_O How am I a "voyeur"?

  • @PeggyTeachesChinese Oops, I meant to say "exhibitionist"! lol

  • @PeggyTeachesChinese you are not the voyeur; but voyeurs watch your videos because you bounce around with your top open; so button up

  • @itubeyoublah I will. :)

  • very lovely ;-) xie xie ni tai hao le

  • i should have watched this one before trying that tongue twister i sent you in email lol. im still practicing it. it all sounds the same when i try hahah... even my chinese friend say its hard to say that one.... you should make a vid someone of saying that tongue twister, giving us a chance to try it out. well i already tried... needs more practice haha. :)

  • @worldtravel101 Why not making a video response and share with us the tongue twister you sent me? It was very interesting! :D

  • love the presentation

  • Very informative thanks!!

  • peggy, can you a video explaining some of the differences in pronunciation for the way Taiwanese people speak? For example you usually teach that "I am Peggy" is "wo shi peggy" but when I am around my TW friends it sounds more like they say "wo si peggy" and I've heard you say it this way before too...actually, I've heard you say it both ways and so I'm confused. Which way should I say it in order to sound more "fluent" to my Taiwanese friends? Thanks!

  • @alynking79 The correct pronunciation is "shi4" but I guess when people speak in daily life, we simply don't polish our pronunciation so much. But when I teach, I have to try to pronounce each word carefully and precisely, so it'd be "shi4". :)

Sorry for my late reply. Bu hao yi si.

  • Wow nice video! Though iam chinese too, but my mandarin is communicable but horrible. haaaa. Anyway you're kinda look kinda hot in this video! Good job!

  • @poloraph

    Haha. Thank you! ;)

  • I love when Chinese people say "Example" and "people" its so cute

  • youre adorable. you make me want to learn! :)

  • you are so pretty!

  • xie xie. :*)

  • hiii how are you ? waw so long time ago , my chinese is not improved until now hahah

  • Jia You! :D

  • u are so nice Peggy...please MARRY ME!!

  • I like your video's!

  • Great video. That tongue twister is tough when you say it fast.

  • I love the out-takes at the end!

  • To Chris from Germany:

Taiwanese people have a habit of saying "shi" as "si."

    Question to Christ from Germany:

Can you please tell me the difference between you and Arnold Schwarzenegger? You just sound the same to me. Thanks. :P

  • LOL that's exactly what I thought. He sounds just like Arnold Schwarzenegger! "Cohagen! Give these people air! ARRRRHHHRRHHHH!!!!!" Sorry that was my best Arnie impression without sounds.

  • Who is Arnold Schwarzenegger?

  • A very famous movie star who is best known as the star in the first three "Terminator" movies, and is currently the Governor of California.

His name in Chinese is "阿諾 史瓦辛格".

  • Now I recall who he is. Thanks a lot! :D

  • The way I personally make the difference between 2 and 3 is that 2, I treat it purely as I'm asking a question and 3, treat it as if I'm purposely elongating the sound.

It sounds weird, but at least my roommates can tell the difference and can understand it better. XD

  • I really hope the Chinese government is paying you Peggy. You are a true ambassador for your country.

I think i would be happy to call you my friend.

  • Taiwan doesn't belong to China, at least not yet. So please don't make that mistake?! :)

  • poltics are confusing wasn't it better when there were emperors in stead of hong kong taiwan and Canton be all different?

  • Nice video, as always.

  • Yay! Xie xie.

  • Churro?

    Mexican Cookery.

a long, slender, deep-fried pastry resembling a cruller.

Yeah and it has sugar on the outside and sometimes you can put in the inside strawberry, chocolate and Vanilla they taste GREAT!

I will be making a video trying to do the sounds. I hope I'm good at it!

  • Looking forward to your video response. ;)

  • difference between the 2nd and 4th tone are not very hard - but having a really hard time hearing difference between 2nd and 3rd. Only way I can tell is to me third sounds longer and flatter, but I don't really hear it fall and rise

  • Try the tongue twister. ;)

  • ten ten morning nine nine how how one

    Good video!

  • Thank you Peggy

So sad to hear that "44 is dead" R.I.P 44

  • Hey I love it!!!

  • Thank you for another great episode.
