  • Fire fiters dont die of stress , they die for saving yhur asses . They dont care if yhu lyk themm , theyre takin the time outta their lyf to save yhurs , so that yhu dont hav to worry about ever seeing yhur family againn . DIPSHIT >:/

  • Holy Crap what is wrong with this guy. Cheer up!!! Get this guy a shrink.

  • osolo fire department . elkhart indiana . i love my job

  • PHILLY FIRE DEPT. #1 BABY......... for the guys reading and trying to get on the pfd is going to be announcing the entry exam soon.

  • No problem. I've never heard of a place that won't let you wear glasses or contacts. There might be some places out there, but none that I know of.

  • Depends where you're testing. I think they say that in the country there's about 1 spot for every 200 applicants. It may be more now due to the economy.

Keep trying and you'll get it. It's a long and tough road, but those that want it bad enough succeed. I ended up getting offers from 2 of the top 20 busiest departments in the country in a 4 month period.

    Good luck,

    ffknight

  • it all depends where you live. I love in a place were there arnt enough firefighters.

  • @smartstuff101 Where do you live??? Seriouslly!

  • Get your paramedic... I would say get your EMT or something(youll have to do it first anyway) But EMTs anymore are a dime a dozen... Most every department looks for EMS trained people... That will give you an edge, but it will still be tough.

  • how many firefighters get duty related cancer or lukemia on average?

  • i know what you mean hopefully this recession will blow over soon

  • No it all depends on where you wanna work.

  • ohhh well my only explanation i can think atm is that since this recession is so bad if there is 1 full time spot open just about every full time certifed fire fighter is going to apply for it to try to get the job to support his/her family

  • what do you mean for 1 place are you talking about 1 dept ? if so then most ppl do however you don't just have to be in 1 dept you can be in as many as you like as long as one of them doesnt have a policy about running with multi dept's

  • great video, i had the privalege of watching the whole thing on VHS while working an overtime at engine 71, phila fire dept. R.I.P. Joe Konrad Sr.(3:31-3:42),R.I.P.Stan The CutMan.

  • I hate how much hype movies stars get, when all they do is read a script and never come close to death(unless they kill themselves because they're pussies and think life is too hard). Fire Fighters have to take so much, so many die, and yet, they get very very little recognition. It's pathetic, and it's exactly why I'm becoming a fire fighter and not a movie star.

  • I coudn't have said it any better bro. America's bravest are not getting the recognition they deserve. Actors act for fame and money for themselves. We firefight for others and serve our communities. Be safe brother.

  • Same to you. I have a few more years to go until I can be one, but hopefully iy will be here soon.

  • exactly..death is not something we want to happen.. and as for your comments about the house collapsing around us..that is usually what causes the deaths

  • Not really all that true. More firefighter deaths are on duty but before or after the fire. Generally they are related to the heart.

  • i have a question... maybe i didn't understand it right but.. .the guy was talking about how u inhail toxic chemicals and have heart dieases... well dont fire fighters go in with the mask? i mean... how can u breath it in if they have the mask for oxygen?

  • yes we always use Breathing Apparatis. I am a Firefighter and am glad we have the equipment otherwise I would have been dead years ago

  • so other than houses collapsing on u guys and getting caught in the middle of a fire... why would u die? i mean u guys have great gear against toxic fumes...

  • I love the trench coats and the rubber boots. out dated but gets the point across

  • fire fighting is a difficult job we dont do it because we have to or because your father did it. we do it because we want to. im a volunteer firefighter and sometime the pager goes off at 2:30 in the morning and your on scene for 3/4 hours or longer get home have an hour or so sleep and then go to your job. it is physically and mentally stressful but again we do it because we love it. we do it to save the lives of those that are in danger.

  • same here.. retained fire fighter in ireland.... its always said firefighters are a different breed.... takes someone with 200% courage to do it... we dont get enough credit!

  • I want to be a fire fighter. I'm 20 years old, and even though I havn't lived my life yet I want to help others live theirs. I know what I might see and the things I'll have to live with... and I know I might not even LIVE with it at all. But I want to help people. I'm not big or anything... Just average, but I'm athletic and can use my brain in situations of extreme stress and push myself beyond my own abilities. What should I do to be a fire fighter?

  • go to your local firehouse and talk to them about getting on there

  • im 21, started eating smoke at the age of 18. its no biggie

  • hey dude, im 20 years old as well, and i have heart for firefighting too, look this is what i did, i used to go to a community college juz for general studies, i didnt know wat to do with my life, then i noticed they have a EMT/Fire Science program first u do ur EMT cert for one semester its tough but ull love it, then u go to fire academy, in my state u need EMT cert to get to fire acdemy but EMT only takes one semester, good luck dude (im going to academy next sem, almost done with emt) cheers

  • ...Thanks!!!

  • Get as much education as possible. AS degree in fire science and/or paramedic with EMT. The more education, the further ahead you are of other candidates. Im 25 and Ive been a successful automotive technician for 6 years, got an AOS degree 10 months out of high school, just not my gig anymore. I put my butt back in school to get this job. It's a challenge, but I can't wait to be a firefighter. BTW, get tool savy, thats huge, too.

  • I'm 5'5" and weigh in at 145. I graduate from my Academy at the end of this month, and there isn't anything that I can't do because of my size. Plus, if your small like me, you can always do wildland firefighting. It's the little man's fireground :D

  • I'm guessing now you're a fire fighter? If so, well done man.

  • I remember when this first came out - I watched it over and over again.

  • im a firefighter of 19yrs. do i suffer work related stress ? no. why ? because i dont give it billy big and go around talking about what ive seen or done. please stop being so gung ho, so at least some of us firefighters can serve the public without looking like whingers and causing embarrasmant to our profession.

  • @aubdestrawb what about toxic fumes? Do they still go around fighting fires without masks?

  • God Bless the Firefighers, Job well done, and for u, the job never, ends, thanks for all you do. I have alot, a bunch a respect for firefighters across our nation. Thankyou so much for protecting and serving the human race.

  • Firetrucks used to be able to go as fast as they needed, but now they are severely limited because people who don't obey the sirens get hurt in crashes. It is hard to believe that some people don't respect firefighters. My dad is almost ready to retire, though.

  • We do it without being asked. We do it because if we dont who else will?

  • beautifull...

  • Rest In Peace, Stan "the cut-man"

  • Hell Yeah Man Old School!

  • 26 more years to retair.

  • Yeah, 8 more years to give 35 complete. Then we punch out for the last time! City of Youngstown Ohio, murder capital of the world.

  • uh no- guess again!

  • you know sumthin' I don't know?? Mr "Grimreaper"

  • oooooooooooo wow!

  • This is way old. Though some of it applies to modern firefighting, some of the hazards have been reduced or increased. Airway management and protecting your airway is practiced on a much larger level these days.

  • Your right, I'm glad to see we have made progress in 20 years. I came in in 81 and thinking back we have made strides.Seems like a very short time!

  • Aye! Are you still involved in the fire service? Where are you from?
