  • I knew about Fanfarlo before I knew about Beirut, If you would only take the time to listen to their other songs you would find out you are all idiots. This band is great!

  • looool i was going to say "sounds like beirut..." then read all the comments below. wait. oops.

  • i bet Jeff Mangum appreciates these guys

  • I think we should all stop trying to have a Hipster off and enjoy the fucking music. Twats. Honestly who cares.

  • I'm proud of humanity now :)

  • Beirut much? Either way I'm enjoying it

  • My first time ever hearing this and I think it sounds JUST like Beirut.

  • BEIRUT plagiarist, PEOPLE WITHOUT TALENT!!! SHOULD DIE! FANFARLO SUCKS!!

  • @kesiism Calm your tits, friend. More people should copy Beirut, then, because I like this, too. This isn't a Beirut song. It's just more good music. They're not pretending to be Beirut, so have a cup of tea and stop flaming -- it makes you look like an idiot.

  • @kesiism BY GOD YOU'RE RIGHT THEY BOTH HAVE A TRUMPET

  • @cnelson1928 They both have a trumpet melody with the same first 5 notes (see Elephant Gun, 1:20), very similar drum rhythms, and similar banjo-ish background. And it's not like other Fanfarlo songs have a similar style, Replicate is excellent but very different.

  • @jimifloydrix haha. i was being sarcastic. i thought it was pretty obvious seeing bands everywhere are using brass, but whatever. tell this to the guy i commented on.

  • i like fanfarlo because of their similarity to beirut. beirut has gone way too mainstream with their new album and i was devastated. glad fanfarlo exists

  • uma das melhores musicas de sempre....

  • It's obvious that the singer is heavily influenced by Zach Condon's style and the layout of the band on the whole seems to follow in Beirut's footsteps, however, that doesn't mean it's bad; I think that if a band is compared to Beirut in the first place then they're doing something right. Keep it up!

  • I cant stand when people say one band is copying another. They work hard to be original and create music they believe in. I personally think fanfarlo is original and amazing.

  • who went to win win because of this song

  • so any indie folk band that features horns is just trying to be beirut? so is neutral milk hotel trying to be beirut?

  • I'm a big Beirut fan, but I think Fanfarlo are extremely good. I would say the only comparison is that in both bands, a few of the guys play several different instruments, but so far I have not heard an accordian or a ukulele in any Fanfarlo song.

  • If they are not trying to copy Beirut, They are doing it worng.

  • slowly falling inlove with this song

  • The band reminds me to Beirut, i found them before some days

  • im here cus of Win Win

  • who came here because of win win

  • i like beirut so much that i actually am glad there is a band who sounds just like them but isnt them, because i wanna hear this sound but not have to play beirut over and over

  • Beirut 2, ridiculous..

  • Fanfarlo and Beirut are both amazing bands. Done.

  • Stop comparing Fanfarlo to Beirut.

I Never heart a beirut song with violon in it!

So just because you heard a trumpet doesn't mean that it's beirut. Beirut didn't invent multi-instrumental music...

Still love both ! (a little more Beirut indeed)

  • @psyzik just listen to the vocals they are stylistically identical to Beirut's

  • @psyzik

There are violins in Beirut, in The Flying Club Cup, but not as prominent.

  • How odd is it that someone got 52 thumbs up for not knowing his/her geometry.

  • Sounds like the soundtrack of Little Miss Sunshine

  • I knew that was Zach Condon trying to escape from that straightjacket because I taught him how to get out by not using under arm deodorant but by in stead covering himself in goose fat and engine grease.

It worked for me because that is what attracted my wife to me that was before we slipped apart.

Anyway fair play to my Australian friend who led me here for the first time because I like the whole kit and caboodle!!

  • @TheFryersmuck You again!!!! :D

  • yeah they may sound a bit like The Beiruts, but thats a sure ticked to windom!

  • what the hell is beirut

  • the movie win win brought me here

  • If you don't listening Beirut... You don't listening Beirut!

  • 8them

  • they may look like Beirut, but anyway they're still orgasmic !

  • Strange, you don't see people making tons of comments comparing Beirut to Fanfarlo on Beirut's videos...

  • Win Win, yes? By that, I'm referring to both Fanfarlo and Beirut. Both equally awesome, huh?

  • los amo!

  • Sorry guys. I don't want to abate the zeal, yet I keep seeing Condon over there. Fortunately he is not around.

  • love it!!

  • this is like diet beirut or beirut light...... i like it though, variety!

  • FUCK SAKE. Can music be any more beautiful?

  • you know, there other stuff doesnt sound so much like beirut. its almost as if they made this song as a sort of tribute to one of their inspirations. thats just the way i interperet it anyway

  • didn't know that Beirut has surrogate elements!

  • i had to pause my porn to listen to this song!!!

  • I don't care if they sound like Beirut or whatever, they're pretty cool, I like the music. :)

  • Comment removed

  • Great band, terrible pants :P

  • I like Fanfarlo just as much as Beirut. =D

  • Holy shit, I think if Beirut is mentioned one more time on a Fanfarlo video I will be in desperate need of a straight jacket and some anti-psychotic medication. Shall I point out the differences?

    Beirut: American

Balkan Folk, Indie Folk, World Music, Electronica

Zach Condon: Vocals, trumpet, flugelhorn, ukelele

Fanfarlo: London based formed by Swedish musician

Indie Pop, Indie Folk, Post Punk

Simon Balthazar: Vocals, guitar, keyboard, saxophone, mandolin, clarinet

    Fanfarlo=Superior!!

  • @31makimba Oh yes, and just one more thing. Just because 2 bands use more than the typical instruments we are used to and go with the more obscure, foreign instruments doesn't mean they are alike. That has to be the only thing everyone is basing this similarity on, because their voices are totally different. In fact, Simon's voice is wildly beautiful and distinct!!!! Oh yeah, and did I mention that Fanfarlo is 1,000 times better?!?! If you want to talk about Beirut, do it on their fucking vids!

  • yay!!sumthing close to beirut!!

  • Dude, You don't have to hate on them to be able to tell his voice is almost exactly like Beirut and they have a very similar style. If you open your damn ears, you can tell. That doesn't mean they're not both good.

  • It's not Beirut, It's not a copy, It's just a Magnificent song. I love Beirut AND Fanfarlo !

  • @MrRock2british Totally agree!!!!

  • Just because they use a fucking trumpet, does not mean they are copying Beirut.

  • 35 people have walls up

  • Can someone post a link to a Beirut song that sounds/looks similar? i don't notice similarities right now.

  • @ThomasPatrick92 It's not the melody, it's the sound that is similar :) Elephant Gun is a good example.

  • They sound like Beirut in this song because of use of trumpet. But in other songs you could hear much difference.

  • WTF ? BEIRUT COPY ?

  • Comment removed

  • wow this song is amazing<33

  • I like it =)

  • wikipedia has this to say: Fanfarlo are a London-based indie pop band formed in 2006 by Swedish musician Simon Balthazar, an extremely attractive, Swiss musician and Giles J Davis (who subsequently left before the release of the first single).

'extremely attractive' sounds just a little biased

  • Comment removed

  • im happy because im not the first how discover that band by last fm searching for bands like beirut :b

  • I HATE YOU :O CARBON COPY I HATE YOUUUUUUUUUUUU

    SDJKLGHAS;DKFJGASHFBHAw

  • haha, found this at Last.Fm at Mixradio. The three artist I searched for where where Beirut, Beirut and Beirut XD

  • don't judge a book by its cover....as in, don't judge Fanfarlo as a Beirut wannabe just from this song. maybe the resemblance was intentional!

  • cant handle the similarities...

  • Oh my god you CANNOT have a band with a trumpet without Zach Condon, it feels WRONG :'( Im actually genuinely upset over this. Man i sound like a freak..

  • @cammigurlgonewild well. most of their work sounds totally different than this. the way i took this song/video was a tribute to beirut and zach condon.

  • Beirut wannabes

  • "What Beirut would have sounded like if Zach Condon never backpacked through Eastern Europe."

  • Literally within the first five seconds of this song I was like "Oh the guy from Beirut has a side project?"

  • When I first heard the album Reservoir it struck me as familiar, like I had heard it long ago in my childhood. I asked my brother about it, but he said the album had only recently come out. You guys have such a classic indie feel to your music, and such great spirit. The music strikes me as melancholy, and you play with such energy, PLEASE come to Montreal.

  • Accually, they sound like Noah and The Whale...

  • They sound like Beirut...

Still like it, but i liker Beirut better.

  • SE PARECEN A BEIRUT!!!

  • is very similar to Beirut no?

  • @pinzzita YES

  • Strong H Man should go out side I think...

  • humm,they sound like Beirut.

  • @PrincessaDulcinea i disagree, they sound like Fanfarlo ;)

  • @PrincessaDulcinea agree"

  • ellos son muy buena banda, pero se parecen a Arcade Fire

  • (more right here!) Roslyn Walker has, once again, raised the question: can street performers truly be accepted in polite society? As for Simon, he reminds me of a well groomed Alfalfa (see "Our Gang" - Hal Roach productions) His singing is and the joining harmony's are reminiscent of the early days of The Kinks, which is forgivable. All in all, not a bad effort in retrospect. more blathering when the medication has fully kicked in. ty

  • ya know....I really DID wake up on the wrong side of the bed the other day, and shouldn't have taken it out on Fanfarlo like I did. Back when I was married, if I woke up to my then wife attempting to decapitate me with the chainsaw, I'd just be

Mr. grumpy-pants all day long. As far as the Fanfarlo video. They all appear genuinely enthusiastic. Cathy (on violin) seems dissatisfied with the choreography. Justin (on bass) has truly captured the essence of Ponce de Leon. (see more above)

  • (one more thing cont.) what the heck is with the idea of making these videos without microphones and amps? they did it in the 60's and 70's on tv and it was as stupid then as it is now. Yes, I admit, I am hyper-critical. But if it wern't for ppl like me condemning (not to be confused with judging) the rest of you would have nobody to hate. ty

  • @stronghandyman just stop talking man

  • Ok, ok! maybe I was being a bit harsh, I admit. After listening to it in my head (since it refused to leave due to my psychosis) about 2,000 times...the bass has a simplistic pocket I've enjoyed in my own groove. The melody is also catchy (after about an hour of head-loops) but the lyrics are inane. Dribbled nonsense hurling accusations of impathic plazdescions embiggend by dynamic subclabature. Please, the last thing this world needs is another dynamic subclabature. Oh! and one more thing

  • This band sounds exactly like Beirut... as in the city Beirut, when someone is playing Fanfarlo on their stereo in public..

  • @ryan868 I love your comment so much

  • xpn had this on this morning and it annoyed the shit out of me SO much I had to find out who they are. panzies. the lot of em. bunch of wankers if ever they wuz. for the love of Christ! can't bands like this be burned at the stake or something?

  • @stronghandyman If only you could be instead

  • I don't know where everyone is getting the Beirut / Fanfarlo comparisons. The guy from Beirut sounds like Ron Sexsmith.

  • Mumford & Sons + Arcade Fire = Fanfarlo.

Simon Balthazar and Marcus Mumford have the same voice.

  • Great song!

  • can someone remind me when bands started to dress Edwardian?

  • This band blows away Beirut.....

  • @31makimba lol, ok, lets get real now.

  • @youburnbriight What would you like me to get real about? I haven't heard a good thing by Beirut and every song I've heard by Fanfarlo is incredible. Harold T. Wilkins is a fucking masterpiece....How 'bout you get real

  • @31makimba beirut is an incredible band, far more unique and diverse than fanfarlo. beirut is perhaps more experimental and more of an acquired taste, whereas fanfarlo is more easily accessible and more easily listenable, but you can't deny that zack condon is an incredibly talented musician and the music that he and the rest of his band produces are unlike anything else being produced by the music industry. i like fanfarlo, but they're not nearly as creative or innovative as beirut.

  • @youburnbriight I disagree completely...I've given Beirut more than a decent chance...I've listened to loads of material from both bands and I find that they are on opposite ends of the spectrum...I don't like a single song by Beirut and I haven't heard a bad one by Fanfarlo....I know music and Fanfarlo goes far beyond being "listenable." Simon Balthazar is a gift to music. Zach Condon might be talented, but that's as far as I'm willing to go

  • @31makimba to each his own, i suppose. i like both bands, and the music both bands produce takes more talent and creativity to produce than 99% of the garbage being overplayed on the radio, so it all just boils down to whatever floats your boat.

  • @youburnbriight I will agree with you entirely on that subject!

  • LOVE IT! He sound a bit like the singer in Beirut!

  • its beirut without any doubt... haha!whatever they sing it is beiruting!trompets and artwork and voice...

  • Is there a Ukulele on this record? I can smell it in the beginning. I would love to hear Beirut cover this

  • This is incredible!

  • I've loved Fanfarlo for a while, was glad to see it used in the extended trailer for Win Win.

  • lol i thought that guy was going to fail at getting out. this is an awsome song!

  • aaaaaaaaaaa beiruttt D: en la trmpeta, cantante, melodia :S

  • My ears are in heaven.

  • Where is Beirut???

  • @Kadmon3 I was thinking that hahahaha i thought it was a cover band

  • @Kadmon3 Lebanon !

  • @pukhtoonistan007

    lol thatw was sarcasm.. :P

  • @Kadmon3 in the center of the world

  • @gazz12345a Its kinda pointless and a waste of time to be on music videos you dont like?

Grow up and be more original with your insults please :)

  • Xuxo kienes son los 34 votos pa bajo pa patearlos! xD no me importa si no entienden, solo se que esta banda suena bien y punto, hay q parar de comparar, si t gusta bien, sino tonces no los escuchen y punto

  • 34 people are deaf:/

  • he do-oes sound like Beirut, doesn't he?

  • Beirut?

  • @IMPRPANTPETSIS

    Beirut!

  • Its only me or there are others that think Fanfarlo sounds like Beirut?

  • @yanivtubul Beirut and arcade fire on a lot of other songs.

  • Whats with the 1940's look??

  • why do all bands these days insist on having someone that looks like a sex offender?

  • the violonist is together with the leadsinger sorry :'(

  • Giiiiiiiiiiiiiiirl crush.

    Hope she doesn't mind.

    :3

  • bass line really sucks

  • Came here AGAIN because of Win Win... :)

  • I found this guys through the win win trailer. Amazing.

  • came here also because of win win

  • WILL EVERYONE STOP WITH THE FLIPPING COMPARISONS ALREADY! even (not saying it is) if it is true, why must you point it out? Honestly, and if you think beirut is awe-inquiringly better, why the hell are you listening to fanfarlo and posting on a fanfarlo video? When, you could be listening to beirut and raving about it- I just don't get it.

  • 34 people built those walls in the first place

  • The trailer to Win Win brought me here :) this song was stuck in my head, and i finally found the whole song! Sweeetness (:

  • beirut?

  • what an excelent song! rich in all sort of instruments, which i believe gives a whole different dynamic to it. great job!

  • lol@ someone comparing this to sigur ros

  • if your band has a guitar in it you're clearly ripping off hendrix because he did it first and no one else is allowed to use the guitar from now on because if you do you are a poser and a fraud and do not have a creative bone in your body go invent a new instrument you stupid conformist tools then come back and try to make music

  • IF YOU DONT LIKE THIS SONG THEN GTFO OF THIS MUSIC VIDEO.

    its as easy as that...

    thank you.

  • Comment removed

  • came here because of Win Win =p

  • @RoxWrestling05 me too :)

  • @RoxWrestling05 Maybe if she wasn't dressed like an 80 year old man ;)

  • @Jlintelman I thought she pulled off the 80-year-old-man look quite well!

  • @RoxWrestling05 how did you meant that`?

  • Sounds like a not as good beirut

  • I'd feel like an indie-music-knowledge failure for not hearing this song and immediately understanding how it may or may not imitate A-Z bands, but the argument also makes you all sound super douchey, so on balance I feel neutral about myself. I think the band's pretty great, though.

  • Bloody hell. One horn and you idiots presume it's a ripoff of Beirut. You are kidding, right?

  • The sound reminds me a bit of Beirut -- nothing against that, however. This kind of music makes me wish I was sitting by the sea in Greece, listening to these guys place all day long. It also makes me wish I could play the trumpet ...!

  • @Inkblot1218 I bet you want to play the trumpet.

  • I would be willing to consider that these guys don't sound a lot like Beirut if the singer didn't sing so similarly to Zach Condon. That voice combined with the brass and strings make it sound so much like Beirut. Which is really a compliment.

  • Don't see why the people saying these are trying to copy Beirut when BOTH bands were FORMED in the SAME YEAR. Bloody hell.

  • Ambitiously skinny

  • this song has been haunting me for the post week an now i finaly found it love the vid too!

  • Beirut are the thinking man's Fanfarlo. These guys are for the peasants.

  • @GrandAlbo

    Oh piss off

  • @Mazza4Azza wrong again

  • this is beirut.

  • Ok Guys, since I like this song and thanks to all your silly comments I will now listen to Beirut, as they must be good as well ;) Also, first band you're excited about in a while? I recently discovered Mumford & Sons (about time, I know), and THEY blew me away. :)

  • Is that Zach Condon in the straight jacket?

  • @GAGANHEIM It's Roslyn Walker.

  • wow...you guys have never listened to Beirut, have you? If you must make a comparison, make it to Clap Your Hands, Say Yeah...or older stuff by Margot and the Nuclear So and Sos...but let's get away from comparisons. These guys are the first "new" band I've heard in about 3 years that blew my fucking face off.The voice, the basslines, the trumpet...all meld perfectly. Discovered Tallest Man on Earth and Fanfarlo within 2 months of eachother...Thank you Sweden.

  • If you listen to all of Fanfarlos songs, they sound nothing like beirut. but comparing one song with a horn doesnt make it "copying". Just to mention Fanfarlo is from london and started up in 2006, and Beruit is from Amarica, and started in 2006, they both started at the same time. And who has an album that sells in stores and is one of the number one indie songs of 2009. And songs are in several t.v shows and movies. I rest my case.

  • @amronlin Wow I'm so impressed, good for you.

  • it sounds like beirut...but it's a beautiful song...although beirut are much better!

  • cool song, just heard this band for the
