well the beginning of 98 the champ was shawn michaels he lost the belt to austin at wrestlemania than austin had th belt and lost it at king of the ring to kane and won it back the next night on raw, than at breakdown austin lost the belt and noone was champ until survivor series when the rock won it and i think mankind beat the rock at the end of the year for the title.....i think thats how it went

Maybe it's just maturity that makes us lose interest in this, but you can't deny this was the pinnacle of storytelling in wrestling, I followed WWF so closely back then, especially in 1998 when this match took place.

I completely agree, man. Watching this now, so many years later, you still get chills at times. Now, nothing gets you hyped up about anything the WWE has to offer. It may be a maturity thing, but it's definitely a quality issue, as well. I can't speak for the new, younger fans who only grew up with the Entertainment Era, but I'm sure they probably aren't as obsessed as we were back in the day. You can see it in the audience, the crowd is half-asleep for the most part.

this was the 1st ppv that i saw and because of the weeks leading up to it taker became (and still is my fave wrestler). that summer (from king of the ring to summerslam) the storylines surrounding stone cold, taker, kane and mankind were really good, coz of the whole "are taker and kane in cahoots" thing. does any1 remember when taker and kane gave mankind a spike tombstone? they only ever done it once, but it was an amazing move.
