Your worms should be fine. They appear to just be in, as you said a heavy breeding mode and that could be due to the fact that their environment is so massive. This can also happen if many of them have died for whatever reason but the fact that they are not all dead indicates that whatever may have killed some, now gone. My compost worms did the same thing.
Yet you chose to click on a link entitled Big Earthworms ? Rofl! Oh, and I have to duck under spiderwebs to get to the compost bin which is a bit freaky. Rats - the domestic kind are cute enough. Clowns - I question what kind of people choose it as a career.. :S
