Motion tracking is when After Effects samples an amount of pixels, and tracks them throughout the video. The result is a realistic compositing. The sunglasses in this video aren't even real.
There is some deep blacks in your girl footage, but none on the plate shot.
Also, the comped shot would take on the colour of the plate a little. And you need a little distortion in there for the glasses...looks surreal. Makes him look slightly bog eyed.
since the camera was moving, it would have been easier/better to either have put some trackers on the glasses and used mocha or a 3d motion tracker for the glasses. Just a hint.
One problem with the tracking is that when he turns his head, she stays on his glasses in the same place (in the middle). She would need to reflect from the edges, else it indicates that she suddenly moved over by 10 ft in exact timing with his head movement, then back. It's tracking more like he has TV screens on his glasses rather than being reflections. Use the reflection of the camera in the lens (not the edges of the glasses) as guidance for where to have the woman positioned.
i would agree, it would make sense to track a mask to the glasses with the "reflection" then revealed by this mask so the glass would reveal different sections of the reflections at the right time, i hope this makes sense.
I agree- The tracking is good. But the reflection is too crisp-Doesn't fit into the background plate at all- blur it, hue/saturation, level, curves- give em a try and it should all look like one plate.
the tracking is very fine! the only thing you have to do to make it perfect is to put some blur on the reflected image so it looks at the same as the background footage, that actually is a bit out of focus
her silluette is too dark in the glasses. thats whats slightly off. her silluette is darker than the dark of the org shot. could be good as an directors effect to stick the minds eye to the image. makes it subtley-surreal.
The trackng is good... but maybe a Filter and Lower down the opacity would've made it look 10x better.. The opacity is too strong.. and it makes him look like he got a video playing in front of his shades!

"A" for effort, but it sure is awkward.

It would have helped if you would have stabilized it first.

yeah, reduced the opacity, maybe 50 to 60 % for good result on your eyeglass...but nice idea to do this type fun vid...thumbs up...=)

the blacks are way too dark. you need to match it to your plate
theAlijan 1 year ago
I think if you lowered the contrast on the reflection or the opacity, it would've looked much better.

What is Motion Tracking???
This is the third video that said motion tracking but it looks like any normal video.
Is it the reflection of the glasses?
CriticShrute 2 years ago
shouldn't the camera be in the man's glasses?
so yess.

Thanks for the reply!

np, google around what real motion tracking is. if you can master it, you can do real neat tricks. ;)

I wouldn't expect it to be easy when the camera was mounted on a chainsaw.
Incredibly shaky.

you should definately decreased the opacity on the reflection of the glasses. It just makes u look like u have cat eyes.
XxH4VOCKxX 2 years ago 32
yea. mostly when he zoomed out at the end
kuscheti1 2 years ago
increased the opacity!?
Nah he should've used a blend mode, and then colour corrected the footage.
Your plate shot doesn't have any true black on it, you may have noticed.

before i read the description i thought the glasses were real, and i was confused on what you actually edited in haha

shame you didn't think of reflecting her in the glasses in the first place - unless you couldn't get the girl to agre to be in the video with you.

it ok mate i had 7.0, then got cs3 but its crap cause audio is out of sync when you save it. so i got 7.0 pro

Yes, good work. Just haze it up and add a touch of gaussian blur to the reflection.
Next time, you might want to place a couple of targets directly on the glasses when you shoot it. That'd make it a whole lot easier. ;)

Good job, but something doesn't look quite right. Like others have said, perhaps lowering the opacity would help out.
