This is really terrible. Form is sloppy, foot work it stiff, punches and kicks are slow and not explosive. There is no snap. No pop. There's no core contraction. The punches are pulled back like a game of tag, and his Kiai is useless. I'm only saying this so that people know that this is not the essence of Shotokan. I have earned black-belts under the two most prestigious Shotokan instructor's in the world: Sensei Nishiyama and Sensei Kanazawa. They would be insulted to see this.
This is rather a kumite combination...nice speed but kihon is about perfecting techniques and stances. To reach this speed he looses the sight for his stances and for the perfection of his techniques. There is no kime and no hip rotation.
Answers to below questions: Kihon means basic or fundamental technique. Kihon has no direct application in the street. This technique must be learned, practiced at length and then turned into an effective technique for the persons body type. No kihon is intended for jissen use. All kihon is practiced and changed according to the individual persons body.
cool...now try that on a person and see if it works...i can almost guarantee that that combination would look completely different, and may not even work, if used against an attacker ........
Of course it wouldn't...the idea of these combinations is to turn the actions into muscle memory not to use the exact same thing you do in a Kihon Combo.
Once you've developed the muscle memory from these combinations you can emply them rapidly in a fight.
Trust me, they work....I've had to use these types of things in several street fights.

" but kihon is about perfecting techniques and stances"
What you call kumite combination the Japanese call kihon kumite as opposed to free fight called jui kumite.
Therefore the title is correct although incomplete.
I do, however, agree that his focus is too much on speed and he therefore fails in what is supposed to be the main goal.. perfect technique.

@joetaicoon
I should probably have termed it ido kihon no kata since there is no "opponent" here.

Why wouldn't it work? It's the same 123 jab-punch-kick they teach in every striking drills in every MMA schools, modified with a sweep at the end.
