I remember those days. People having fun, everyone being allowed a social life...
For those who support the blanket ban, ask yourself "would you blindly submit to politicians deciding what habits you're permitted to indulge in".
Of course you wouldn't. So why should smokers? It's not a politicians job to dictate opinions and life style choices. The total ban is hate-driven legislation.
Separate areas or separate pubs was the only fair answer.
Ah, but its not "live and let live" because those exposed to cigarette smoke who themselves do not smoke are contracting and dying because of the habits of others! And, even if you excuse the health effects on non-smokers, fact is that cigarette smoke STINKS for those who don't share the habit. Hell, I've known people with vehicles who won't use the ashtray in their vehicle because it will stink up their car! I've nothing against those with the habit...just do it in your own home!
Hey, I'd like to have people with chronic body odour banned from public transit...however that's not going to happen. At the end of the day, smoking is being banned because 2nd hand smoke kills people. Garlic and body odour is not banned because it doesn't kill people.
Freedom of choice is great, but its always going to get trumped when your choice is costing others who don't share your habit their lives!
Because we thought like everyone else, that the ban wouldn't happen here, not in the cradle of democracy. We have been stunned into action now that we are beginning to see the anti-tobacco lobby are not going to stop there, we now know and believe what they have in store for smokers and pubs and it ain't pretty.
More of this please - this government have made it clear that they intend to win this battle at ANY cost - lies, deception and propaganda. They WILL NOT listen to reasoned argument.
AGAIN _ more please - countrywide - fight for your freedom!!!
What are some of those reasoned arguments??? I mean, I'm a non-smoker, and not rabid about it. I've dated smokers, would continue to date smokers, and typically have allowed smokers to light up in my home. I'll even admit that some smokers look VERY sexy when they smoke. However that becomes irrevelant in the face of compelling medical evidence that shows that exposure to cigarette smoke impacts not just those who do it, but those who don't!
Brilliant! Wonderful...let's have more!

I cannot stand the stink of garlic - can I also have anyone who eats garlic barred from my presence because it is distasteful to me?
This about freedom of choice - smoke/dont smoke - smoking pub/non-smoking pub - choose whichever suits you!
