  • He can play wherever and I'll still melt when I hear him perform, Andrew Bird is amazing.

  • No words. He's just so amazing.

  • That whistle is tremendous.

  • i can't stop listening to this one. probably one of my favorite songs ever written, and this version is gorgeous.

  • i love the look of this video, what kind of filter dod you use?

  • he IS a bird

  • eargasms many!!! SO GOOD damnit!

  • @paleguyalden What a mess.

  • I think he gets more vibrato out of his whistle than I can out of my voice.

  • THE BIRDS WHISTLE BACK!

  • 10 people just don't get it.

  • I wish I had the sheet music for this, so amazing.

  • mainstream music can't beat the violin

  • Never really cared for Andrew Bird's music other than this (not knocking his other recordings). This is damn good and so inventive of a modern day musician. Always nice to see someone do something different.

  • Who needs a mandolin when you got a violin?

  • @GraditudevsRevenge I've got both! And they're completely different. I think you're only comparing the fact that they have the same tuning. But played obliviously completely different. I'd say violin is way harder but I just picked it up and I've had my mandolin for a few years now. They both produce godly sounds if you can play them. But still completely different.

  • Andrew Bird=My Hero / Musical Genius

  • I LOVE IT *_*

  • LOVE this wavelength

  • bet that kid with the guitar at 1:50 wishes he had a violin.

  • @JimJamJuMV he looks defeated compared to mr bird

  • When I first started to listen to Andrew Bird I did nothing but that and found my self whistling to A Nervous Tic Motion of the Head to the Left without realising it.

  • Ten people are tone deaf

  • He can also whistle pretty well.

  • Anyone know how they recorded the audio? Sound fantastic for a moving outdoor deal

  • @Paddykahn Probably just used a good boom mic

  • @Paddykahn The violin is mic'd. You can see it on the the top as he strums it and the cord leading up to the wireless pack in his jacket's pocket. Explains the awesome sound, I think.

  • He's quite talented. I've never seen anyone play the violin without the bow, until now.

  • I'm speechless.

  • His voice and music playing is phenomenal! I'm thankful for his talent everyday.

  • Andrew Bird puts everything on the radio to shame

  • @tenatopps almost everything. They do occasionally play some good music on the radio.. the occasional Pink Floyd and such. But yeah.. I agree...

  • That whistling is amazing, I need to learn that!!

  • 10 people thought this was going to be a weather forcast.

  • Hey we are a new studio in Florida. We have been getting the best bands in the area to perform live in our new web-series called off the avenue. Check it out!

  • One of my favorites by him. Truly amazing!

  • he is always whistling lol

  • I would've been running after him:]

  • I met him randomly in a hotel in the middle of the night in LA. And Ive NEVER felt luckier. : D Hes so awesome.

  • I like his eye crinkles when he smiles

  • Take your shoes off!! =D

  • now I believe in music from the heavens. Absolutely amazing!!

  • i love him

  • gadamn

  • everyone pauses to watch but hesitates to follow

  • Everything about this video is amazing. Anybody have some helpful tips/guides for somebody wanting to learn violin??? I really want to learn but cant spend money on lessons. Is there a good teaching book out there anybody knows of? Any info at all that could help me get started? thanks so much :D

  • @1PurpleElephant Violin isn't really something you can learn from a book unless you already have an incredible ear for tone and intonation.

  • Oh but i do. Just kidding. I was afraid of that though. Well thank you anyway....:D

  • this makes me want to learn to play the violin pizzicato-style, but then i'm like... why even bother. this is andrew's trademark, his expertise, nobody can even... there's just no reason to even try.

  • @kaylashalaylaaaaa lol, not really his trademark, plenty of people did it, are doing it and will do it. Check out Final Fantasy, he plays sometimes live with arcade fire, and has his own project.

  • Muck

  • The man with the camera must have a sign that tells people to ignore them or something to that effect. You cant do something that amazing in the middle of the street and have nobody look at you.

  • Is the violin intro Andrew Bird's original composition or is it sampled from some famous classical piece? It's beautiful

  • Please, somebody help, I melted. Again. I love Andrew Bird.

  • i watch so many blogotheque but none i think match up to the epic zach condon ones, i will carry on waiting

  • @sebastianflyte07 I totally agree! I think the best one is when they do "Guyamas Sonora" in that little room. My goodness..

  • @sebastianflyte07 I disagree. Andrew Bird is simply divine. Just as much as Zachary is.

  • simply amazing. i can't quite get over this.

  • psychedelic

  • I would've start to walk beside him.

  • haha all those people he walked by shouldve turned around and followed him

  • Before I heard of Andrew Bird in the summer, he was playing at the Britt Fest, just a couple hours from where I live. I am so frustrated at myself now that I didn't go see him!

  • Haha he is just walking around like nothing is happening! Jeez! WOW!

  • absolutely beautiful!

    omygod!

    beautiful violin.

    I'm swoooned!

    :)

  • If you get the chance, please see this man live. It really is an amazing experience. J'aime ces concerts à emporter ! Merci pour les vidéos, Blogothèque. :)

  • V you've GOT to be kidding...his voice is superb.

  • i thought the spanish were genuine nice and open

  • And we are! n_n

  • "sometimes the spanish teenagers frighten me, a little bit." Haha.

I had this experience when I was 16 and took a trip to Spain. They were real nice though. :)

  • this man represents one of the very few actual musical talents left in the music industry, and its no wonder. best stuff to date though has to be off his newest record, which is stunning in more ways than i can list in 500 characters.

However, listening to him in performance is mind blowing. He just gives everything such a grand scope that its impossible to escape.

  • i'll second that!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @skimaniac05 This is exactly why he is my number one favorite. No one can top him for me. A few come close, but most of them need too much help to quite reach his level. But he can that feel all on his own if he has to.

  • i'm really loving these "take away shows"

  • god i love this man. he is just a thousand sorts of phenomenal.

  • Andrew Bird inspired me to whistlein in my songs, but its so hard! I dont know how he does it so well....maybe because hes a genius =)

  • well and practice, practice and more practice

  • He is absolutely brilliant.

  • yes, It has totally the beatles style, The George Martin style! but it doesn't sound like any particular song, I think.

He's got a great voice, and I wish I could whistle like him! haha

  • Comment removed

  • George Martin is "the 5th Beatle", he was the producer of most of their records and the one who intruduced the classical influence on them.

He arranged the strings in the beatles songs.

  • I can't beilieve I forgot about the 5th Beatle. Thanks for rejuvenating my memory.

  • Is it just me, or does this version of "Weather Systems" remind anyone besides me of a Beatles song? (Don't worry: this is a good thing, as I like both Bird and the Beatles.)

  • Really? What Beatles song are you talking about?

  • I've heard so many Beatles songs I can't remember which one at the moment. I'll post it when I think of it.

  • Eleanor Rigby perhaps?

  • Perhaps.

  • Come to think of it, perhaps it better resembles this Beatles song I don't remember the title of, but it has these lyrics:

Because the sky is blue, it makes me cry...

As much as I love the Beatles, I don't remember the title of the song that features these lyrics.

  • This song your thinking of is called " Because" off Abbey Road.... one of my favorites by the Beatles. :) While speaking of "Because"... Elliott Smith, did a great cover of the song. Listen, if you haven't already :)

Andrew Bird, Is.... well there is really no words :)

"Armchairs" is by far one of my most favorite songs, as if, I could

pick a favorite... :) I can listen to that song 80 times a day, and probably

    have!

  • Thanks so much! I'll have to check out the Elliott Smith version whenever I get the chance.

I like several songs of Andrew Bird's, but my new favorite is "Scythian Empire." It's got this really fun beat that you can not only sing or whistle to but also dance to.

  • I agree, Scythian Empire has a great feel to it! Armchair Apocrypha, is one of my favorite albums. Not a robot, but a ghost, Tea and Thorazine, Skin is,my also have that feel to dance to them :) even 11:11... I wish you could find more of his Bowl of Fire stuff on YouTube, mostly for people who haven't heard a lot by them.

  • I like pretty much the entire Noble Beast album, as well as some songs of his I've heard from his earlier albums, which I have yet to purchase. I don't think I've heard his Bowl of Fire stuff though.

He has quite the musical repertoire, which is something I really enjoy about him.

  • i wish i could whistle like that!!!

  • hahaha. At the very end. "Yes, sometimes the Spanish teenagers frighten me." 4:55

  • I tried getting into the vineyard too!

  • I can't blame those people for stopping, I'd be walking side by side with him if I saw him whistling, singing and playing the violin on the street.

  • First order of business: he's gorgeous. Second: he's actually quite good at the violin.

  • He's got a performance degree from Northwestern, so yeah.

  • this is amazing.

  • this is the absolute coolest thing ive ever seen.

    its so surreal and neo-fairy-tale.

this man signed my corncob pipe last week after he silenced an audience with his sound tactics.

    thank god

  • really like the progressive attention in this video

  • noooo!!! WHY ISNT THIS WORKING?!?

  • :'[

  • the whistles.. how ...

  • HOW DO I WHISTLE LIKE THAT!

  • make a little home for air in your mouth

  • one of the best comments ive ever seen here!! not being sarcastic! EPIC!

  • Sounds sexy.

  • Sexilicious indeed

  • Fantasmic, one might say?

  • Joygasmic is more like it. <3

  • Delumptiousness incarnate!

  • Snazzadelic!

  • oh my god...

  • that man right there is AMAZING at the violin.

  • @beatles518luver More like: That man right there is amazing at every possible imaginable thing in life.

  • even his speaking voice sounds lovely!

  • such a great song

  • fabulous

    wow.

  • B-E-A-U-TIFUL

  • Incredible, especially considering no backup, no other instruments. If he sang it like on the album, he would have sang "I can see it all from here" as the camera got it's first view of the town down the hill.

  • I like his outfit

  • This is so beautiful.

  • I beleive this song is about psychics and alchemy. "the wine" is an alchemicial term.. where not spilling it would definitely be important. "I can see your cells grow, and the weather systems of the world" (predicting the weather? to sense a storm coming by omens etc) there is some obvious telepathy goin on in this song. Either that or its about Google earth and scientists :-P

  • COOLEST MOFO EVER.

  • what a perfect place for an andrew bird performance :]

  • très beau, Montmartre!!!

  • oh, to be in paris with andrew bird.

  • to be in paris period. lol

  • to be with andrew bird period.

  • Is this song about alchemy? This is like my favorite song of all time. I actually believe I am psychic and in the right state of mind can see peoples cells grow and the weather systems of the world. It means a lot to me personally. His whistling reminds me of flying saucers.

  • hahahah what?

  • LOL! epic reply

  • :))))))))))))))))))))))) hell no!!!!

  • i wanna wake up and be inundated by a flood of beer and cherries.

  • I wanna wake up and look out the window to that!

  • Why does this music make me tear up? It's so beautiful...

  • Just him and a violin is great.

  • so beautiful to hear the naked sound without loops pedals and effects, and in paris, tra la la! it makes me superbly happy...

i wish we could play on the street together someday!

  • this is gorgeous, andrew and montmartre and also the way it's filmed. in love.

  • good god. what a sound.

  • I just came over him.

  • Sexy and extraordinarily talented. It sort of makes sense that some are so jealous.

  • why can't he come sing around my neighborhood?!

  • With my luck I'd still miss him.

  • I'm absolutely in love with this video, thank you.

  • I can't believe this. Montmarte is the most beautiful part of Paris.. even more so now Bird has graced the streets with his presence.

  • Brilliant, Fantastic, Excellent violonist, Mervellous artist : i love you "Andrea" !!!

  • WHAT A BEAUTIFUL MAN.

  • Oh no. Andrew is the greatest. ;o)

  • i am mote interested in his hands (specifically his left one) than i am his face.

  • That was incredible. I've never seen anything ilke it before... and I sincerely hope to see much more. Brilliant.

  • If I'd known you could do THAT with a violin, I never would have quit.

  • this song is so fucking beautiful. andrew bird never fails to impress me.

  • mm. well said.

  • Bird is really cool - one of the best songwriters to come out in recent years. Sometimes he smacks a bit of Rufus Wainwright, but he is perhaps more consistent in his production (Rufus has come up with some clangers).

  • Adorable. He is far beyond adorable.

  • I can't believe how unknown he is. He is the greatest fucking artist ever to create music.

  • you again? get a fucking hobby. move out of ur parents basement you sack of shit. haha, what a bitch.

  • shut the f*** up! :-)

  • OK wtf this isint a fuggin Forum, Seriously it's bothering the crap out of me that you guys are arguing on this video, Seriously take it to PM's or somthing damn,

I've watched this over like 5000000 Times D:, Still good D:

  • Zuriku, if you look up the definition, you'll find that a forum is described as a place for open discussion. This is a public forum and that is exactly what happens here. If you don't like that, find something else.

  • Wow you just think you're MR.Know-it-all

  • I mean can't you just enjoy the video you're just asking to be annoyed and to start arguments all of the time, Kind of obvious if you ask me,

  • Zuriku, I haven't started the argument. If my opinion doesn't sit well with whoever reads it they are in their right to oppose me in any way they want or can. I don't mind or care. I stated my intelligent critique of bird's music with a lot of excellent examples of what I meant and those with any brains can understand and agree. Those who don't agree with me are stupid.

  • "Intelligent critique"?

    "A lot of excellent examples"?

You didn't make a critique. You just said Andrew Bird was bad music, and that he seemed to suffer from Down's syndrome. You didn't say why he is bad. Reviews tend to go accompanied by explanations, not only by statements.

You didn't put a single example. I think you mentioned Beethoven or something like that, but you didn't compare them. The fact that Beethoven is awesome (which he is) doesn't make Bird terrible.

  • Zuriku, I don't just think it, I KNOW it! By the way, it doesn't use much of my know-it-all-ability to figure out what a forum is. If you can't do that much you are called Mr. Know-f**k all >

  • Seriously Dude if you really don't care then why are you still aruging with me? And im glad you know it, You're just trying to get a point across, And guess what you did congrats You've made a great change in my life, Awesome we get the point- Well looks like you made a difference in somebodies life, You win, You're smarter than me, Congratulations-

  • It drives me crazy that the word flatter is used wrong all the time. If you look up the word flattery - it means insincere praise. People tell others that that have given them a compliment..."I'm flattered" - when what they've actually just said to them in truth was that it wasn't sincere and was instead false.

  • I agree, but people value and enjoy getting their vanities gratified because it feeds their inflated egos that are blown out of proportion by watching people who play music for example being deified and scratching for their autographs in the most undignified manner.
