@killer600000 The sound balances must have been all over the place on stage. The Edge fiddles round with his in-ear monitors during this and Bono does during other songs. Still, amazing how the hell this ended up on YouTube. I've never seen Bono stood still for an entire song! Think he realised early on it wasn't gonna be their night. Still, this is defo an under-rated song, they should revisit it.
Their image totally alienate me at this time, along with the songs, they just were not good however much time they had spent on it. Bono is still slim here though, pre hair transplant too.But he just doesnt suit shot hair.
This is painful to watch. It took the band much more time than expected to finish recording Pop. They had little time to get ready for the tour and these are the early results.
everything that could go wrong did go wrong during this gig, but you know something? I love it! I'd rather attend it than any 360 tour concert and I don't care how many thumbs down I get for saying that
@patscollectible the claw isn't the problem, I like it, it's a groundbreaking piece of work
what I do not like is the show overall, particularly Bono, who became way too preachy lately; I believe that be talks more between songs than singing during them
Pop is an interesting album for me. It's one of the few times where U2's album versions I preferred over their live versions(at least the first half, Please was awesome live) they did on Popmart.
So beautiful.. " take the colours of my imagination take the scent hanging in the air take this tangle of a conversation and turn it into your own prayer with my fingers as you want them with my nails under your hide with my teeth at your back and my tongue to tell you the sweetest lies "
@KC0462 the bomb diggity for sure!!! I really could listen to all their work with just instrumental and Edge's backing vocals and vocals. Instrumentally they are so great. Larry's live drumming on Vertigo tour was awesome. Credit to the sound engineers too.
is wondering ...was "A Man and A Woman" the "continuation" song from Do You Feel Loved? What I mean is that U2 is known for continuing a song from a previous album.
@suitbluesky Hot Damn! The sexiest words ever! My fave, I quote them all the time. So happy to see someone appreciate the same one's. How hot can you get? Sensual and erotic, his passionate voice screams he just wants to take you. Drips sex. As does he.
problem is this is an american audience. atmosphere would not be quite what you'd expect at a u2 gig in europe. US gigs are like funerals by comparison.
Imho here the problem was the band itself. They are the first to say that this tour was underrehearsed, and this onw really looks like a backstage video.
But yes, you are right about European crowds... And Sudamerican ones as well!
The problem was they finished their album so late and had already scheduled the tour so it cut into their rehearsal times and it showed. Bono sounded rough and it took forever for them to get Staring at the Sun and If God will send his Angels figured out on the tour.
este tema en el album es uno de los mejores sin duda pero en vivo deja mucho que decear y no esta tan bueno como la version del album que es mas que excelente!!
I like the album version of this song but the live version doesn't do it much justice. I noticed it wasn't played much after the first gig or two on the tour.
It's a ropey performance but it's fascinating! Not sure about the Madonna snip though lol. This is one of my favourites off Pop, such an underrated album. I think people tend to forget how experimental U2 was being with Pop and Zooropa.

Jesus thats shockin, heard if god will send his angels love that song and this one but they were piss poor on this tour.. Bono is shite through this whole tour, the band is so lifeless.. The problem with this tour is that the band dont realise it because they're so arrogant and up their own holes.. Even the mexico gig is rubbish anytime i try to watch it..Pop is a quality album though.. especially the finished versions of the singles!!! And by the way i'm ahige U2 fan but i call a spade a spade
this song misses so much without that background riff in the begginning and throughout the song. IF you know the song, you know what I'm talking about.
Yes I know exactly what you're saying. Many of the Pop tunes needed an extra guitar player live to lay down some backing to then let Edge play off of. They shoulda just brought up The Edge's guitar tech he's worked with for years and had him in the background playing backup.
funny how in this vid, bono looks almost exactly the same as he does now, great song, great album, great tour, i wish i was able to see a popmart show...i hope they will play some popmart stuff on september 17th
Everyone tries to bash the Pop album but it was the greatest albums ever. Songs like Staring at the Sun, Please, and If You Wear That Velvet Dress were amazing live during PopMart and the tours that followed. They should bring those back and the rest in their setlist for their upcoming 360 Tour so I can witness them in person.
i feel bono was derisive when he quoted from a madonna song, that's why i wrote what i wrote. anyway i'm a great u2 fan since my childhood, i just don't understand why they made pop, achtung baby and zooropa. and if you think that everybody is a faggot who doesn't share your opinion, than you're quite retarded.
Jesus, grow a sense of humor. I was making a facetious reference to the widely held stereotype that all men who like Madonna are gay. I think those electronic U2 albums are great.
With Zooropa being their best but I love Pop just as much. I think Dirty Day and this song get treated unfairly and should be considered as some of their best. Other bands release songs similar to these and get all this critical praise.
Songs like Mofo and Please. I saw Coldplay live they are cool I like them as well. Going to see U2 in October so I hope they play something from the 90s.
That's just rubbish. Achtung Baby is one of the classic albums of the 90's, and it's also always considered U2's best album along with The Joshua Tree. Which I agree to.
@apejens44 Iagree with you but "No Line on the Horizon" stands right up there with Joshua and Achtung. 2o years since Achtung Baby and they have found the sound we expect. Bono's lyrics and word play are some of his best. I think Zooropa was put out to quickly on the heels of Achtung Baby when they were in huge demand. They were never snobs about their fame, very down to earth and I love that.
@Superbonogirl: Putting No line on the horizon in the same sentence as Achtung baby and Joshua is pushing the boat out a bit. It is music made by people in their 40s/50s, lacks drive, youth and spunk of the other albums. Im not saying its bad but it cant hold a candle to the creativity, style and lyrical deliverables of the earlier albums. Obviously this is my subjective view but just throwing a reply in there for the sake of it. Sexy boots, crazy tonight etc. No deal.
It was their worst performance i have ever seen....it was opening night of the Popmart Tour and they were completely unprepared..I know, I was there...but believe me, even Nolan Ryan had a bad night once in a great while....I forgave them, long ago...by the way, this was broadcast on free tv, and it was the worst rated tv show of ALL time...
This is one of those dark hidden gems that you ocassionally find in U2 albums and that you wonder how could they not become singles. One of my all time favs from the dublin crew.
Would be great it they played some Pop stuff as well as maybe some Unforgettable Fire songs as on the Vertgio tour they played a lot of Boy songs. I will never forget the site of the 100ft arch, it was huge and the new 360 stage is 164 feet high!
the studio version has a heavier almost more sensual bass. That I think is why it was hard to translate these songs live: the instrumentation doresnt stay consistent. still an awesome song though
I agree I would love for them to do this song on their new tour, most likely they won't but,you never know what extra songs that they'll put in at their concerts!
Yeah, agreed. I'd appreciate any Pop song, but I don't think they like the album themselves as much as other ones. But there's a line there about boots, so there's a chance Bono might snippet it.
i agree, although there is some dirge on there ie Miami, The Playboy Mansion, If You Wear That Velvet Dress. I like this song, Gone, Please and MOFO the most.
I prefer this album over any of their recent stuff
Well Larry came out and said that Popmart tour was booked too early - before the album was finished so by the time they had finished the album, they had little time to work on the tour.
Gran canción. Es el peor recital de la gira POPMART pero las canciones tienen una aire fragil y vergonzante, algo que la hace atractivas y, en parte, emotivas. POP es un disco que será reivindicado con el paso del tiempo. No tengo dudas.
was Las Vagas their first date in the popmart tour?? and why did they not do "do you feel loved?" at any later dates? I saw them at London and at Brisbane, oz and its not on and also it's not on the play list on the dvd at mexico?
The opening guitar (0:27 seconds) and at the end (4:40-end of video) is one of their best...it is so classic U2. It is great. I really wish they would bring this song back and play it live some. It is the most underrated/under appreciated song of theirs. They also need to get rid of 'Get on Your Boots'. That is so far from them it is unreal. Ni ceart go cur le cheile
i agree, the sample would have been great live, but there's something really cool about the rawness and space of this version, with just guitar bass and drums (and tambourine).
also, Edge's Grestch -- what a fucking amazing instrument
I'm so sorry I was clicking thumbs up but clicked the wrong one. I agree with you. That was such a lovely guitar and the sound it made. A little bit of tiny winy and it can be great live. Make no mistake this is perfect too. I used file cutter to cut the audio in the start and its my ringtone.
Now I wont be the only one in the world to have it :)
I love this song, and the album 'pop' is a brilliant example of u2's ability to innovate, i seen them play this tune live in Leeds roundhey park 1997, one of the best concerts ive ever been to.......Rock On!
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
I respectfully disagree. If you wear that Velvet dress and Miami are rubbish that Maroon 5 and Fall out Boy could have done. Those two songas are an abomination to the phenonmenal U2 catalogue. But all the others are pretty cool.

AgustinU214 2 years ago
yeah it´s like they nevwer rehearsed, like a lot from that concert.

Great video thanks!

Yeah, agreed. I'd appreciate any Pop song, but I don't think they like the album themselves as much as other ones. But there's a line there about boots, so there's a chance Bono might snippet it.
Lawrenceo89 2 years ago
,, take this boots their good for nothing, no this boots don´t want to stray"
I woud love to see the band making a version of Get on your boots that is not that close to the orignal with snippets and stuff....

'POP' is completely underrated. It's an awsome album with some real gems. Like this one!
Alwaystuned 2 years ago 9
i agree, although there is some dirge on there ie Miami, The Playboy Mansion, If You Wear That Velvet Dress. I like this song, Gone, Please and MOFO the most.
I prefer this album over any of their recent stuff

Well Larry came out and said that Popmart tour was booked too early - before the album was finished so by the time they had finished the album, they had little time to work on the tour.

Terrific song - one of their best.

No tengo dudas.

was Las Vagas their first date in the popmart tour?? and why did they not do "do you feel loved?" at any later dates? I saw them at London and at Brisbane, oz and its not on and also it's not on the play list on the dvd at mexico?
andrewdarlington1234 3 years ago
Because they realized it was only bringing down the show, to them at least. So they took it out.
RattleAndHum1988 3 years ago
still great though!!

yeh looks like Bono is trying to get the audience into it

The opening guitar (0:27 seconds) and at the end (4:40-end of video) is one of their best...it is so classic U2. It is great. I really wish they would bring this song back and play it live some. It is the most underrated/under appreciated song of theirs. They also need to get rid of 'Get on Your Boots'. That is so far from them it is unreal. Ni ceart go cur le cheile

btw WHERE THE HECK is the amazing sample? (the backbone of this song really?)
allth3s4me 3 years ago
i agree, the sample would have been great live, but there's something really cool about the rawness and space of this version, with just guitar bass and drums (and tambourine).
also, Edge's Grestch -- what a fucking amazing instrument
discothequelp 3 years ago
I'm so sorry I was clicking thumbs up but clicked the wrong one. I agree with you. That was such a lovely guitar and the sound it made. A little bit of tiny winy and it can be great live. Make no mistake this is perfect too. I used file cutter to cut the audio in the start and its my ringtone.
Now I wont be the only one in the world to have it :)

I love this song, and the album 'pop' is a brilliant example of u2's ability to innovate, i seen them play this tune live in Leeds roundhey park 1997, one of the best concerts ive ever been to.......Rock On!

My sentiments exactly! :)

one of the greatest u2 songs ever
jakeupstudios 3 years ago 3
Pop is definitely U2´s best album as a whole album. It has the most solid collection of songs.
"Pop didn´t sale 50 million copies". - Who cares?
Other U2 albums have many better live songs than the ones on Pop. But it isn´t that simple at all even we know the essence of U2 is playing live.
U2 claims Pop was "rushed" but I don´t believe it. It was meant to be as it is and not The Joshua Tree II!
The new horrible versions on The Best of 1990-2000? U2 pandering the old school fans.

This comment has received too many negative votes show
I respectfully disagree. If you wear that Velvet dress and Miami are rubbish that Maroon 5 and Fall out Boy could have done. Those two songas are an abomination to the phenonmenal U2 catalogue. But all the others are pretty cool.

If you wear that velvet dress is a great song!!
it changes the feeling in the place you are it isn´t a fucked up song
