  • Giordano Bruno would perhaps have been a better example than Galileo.

  • You got to meet Trace and Frank! Lucky!

  • coffee

  • I will now vote for Rick Perry that is how much I dislike you and hate your opinions

But I will offer you some coffee

  • Enough with the coffee bullshit people.

  • @zacthebold not till she apologies to men everywhere

  • @mariosumo How did she wrong all men?

  • @zacthebold feminism is man hating it is not acceptable like any other form of prejudice

  • @mariosumo There might be some man hating feminists but RW is not one of them. Even if she was it doesn't make all of them man haters. Most recognize how gender bias affects both sexes negatively. This is why I don't like labels. If you think RW is a man hater why are you watching her?

  • @zacthebold I have been looking into feminism for a while now but I always find that it is very hypocritical and ignores facts regarding the differences in sexs. It seems to stereotype men. RW is exactly like that she even dragged Richard dawkins through the mud- a man who takes science to the people. She also has a poor understanding of science and presents in correct facts to support her feminist attitudes.

  • @mariosumo I really don't know my shit that well on that subject. But I will say that just because Richard Dawkins is a great man who is very intelligent and has done a lot of good for humanity doesn't make him infallible or perfect. To put him above criticism like how you just did with that statement isn't very becoming of a skeptic. Don't make the mistake of making Richard Dawkins into a god.

  • @zacthebold His criticism of her was correct, she made a big deal out of a small rather harmless incident. See I respect someone who doesn't jump on the band wagon like yourself, if you aren't well informed in an area its best not to do minimal research and comment on it whilst insulting others .. as she does. very bad advertisement for atheism

  • Well that was very interesting. In fact, you are very interesting.

    Would you like some coffee?

  • Why haven't you sent me a message? Would you like some coffee?

  • don't take this the wrong way...

  • Execution is conflict on its own- so you kill people to make life for people better? Hell, yes, now that's a logic.

What does an elf when he's staring at an empty piece of paper? He's studying his rights.

  • Did Rick Perry ask her back for coffee?

  • @AtheismKills hahahahahaha lololllssssss

  • Comment removed

  • I think she is confusing him with Giordano Bruno.

  • Galileo was put under house arrest, where he died.

  • @UnchainTheNight1 I thought he died from coffee

  • I really want to vote for Rick Perry now that she said not to vote for Rick Perry.

  • Her head seems as untidy as her den. Listen dear, don't just speak your brains onto a YouTube vid,... script it, and rehearse, 'cos you don't have the wit or rhetoric for riffing.

  • Why do we even have prisons, eh? Let's just let them all go. Kumbaya, y'all! Rick Perry is a tard, but the idea that execution is always wrong is just as retarded as anything Rick Perry ever said.

  • @Swiley11780 abolishing the death penalty is not equal to letting all criminals go free. The death penalty is a badly implemented, expensive system that does not solve any problems, as it does not deter potential criminals or give the family of the victims closure. As a result, it is an expensive, unnecessary, excessive procedure. There is also no way to pardon a dead man if they are later found innocent. Your argument fails

  • @Plausiblesarge My argument at this point is simply that there ARE some people who deserve to die, and that executing them is the right thing to do. Accurately identifying them may be a problem at times, but there can be no doubt that some people need killing.

  • @Swiley11780

I don't think the purpose of a justice system should be to give people what they "deserve", it should be to mitigate crime. I'm not particularly concerned with victim's closure either; justice isn't about providing retributive satisfaction.

  • @Swiley11780 Who the hell do you think you are, deciding who lives and who dies? I don't want anybody to have that power, let alone a beurocracy which has only rules and no emotions

  • @Plausiblesarge Right now there are thousands upon thousands of violent criminals deciding who lives and who dies. I guess we should just leave them alone and not judge, right?

  • @Swiley11780 Stop using faulty logic. Not sentencing them to death DOES NOT MEAN that we should leave people alone and not judge them. I have already said this in my first response, so stop being a moron.

  • @Plausiblesarge I guess then that we should put them up as guests of the State for the next 40+ years, so you and I can pay for their food, shelter, medical needs etc. for the next several decades until they die of "natural causes" or the usual prison deaths (violence, AIDS, etc). Good idea! I don't know why I thought executing the criminally insane was a good idea to begin with. BTW, if you're concerned with human suffering, a "death sentence" is often more humane than "25 to life."

  • I'll vote a straight Democratic ticket in 2012 to cancel out Pat Robertson's ballot.

  • Calling someone stupid for not knowing about Galileo then showing you know even less about him. Wow. One of the things I love about the skeptical movement is people say what they know and don't pretend to know things they don't. Skepticism 101: if you are going to be condescending you had better be right.

  • I don't understand, what is wrong with executions?

    Also

    Hell yes Dragon Con!

  • And Sarah Palin and Michelle B say stupid things? Is she just too stupid about history to realize a few seconds on Google is more than sufficient to acquaint oneself with some facts regarding such a famous historical figure?

Oh wait! Free-thinking liberates her from the burden of sticking with the truth. Promoting ignorance and falsehoods is essential to bigotry, apparently.

Wow! What an intellectual. Christians worry about silly things like telling the truth!

  • Rick Perry is a Republican douche, but so are most "progressives". What to do?

  • But rkwatson hates all men, oh I see, she's trying to win sway again.

  • Is there a candidate that IS worth voting for?

  • Good that you're happy, and that none of those nice people you met didn't end up in an elevator with you?

    Just playing Skepchick, you're awesome.

  • A Texan wants to know if anybody has nominated Rick Perry to run for governorship of Khuzestan Province, Iran? Looks like 'Pastor Prick' would fit right in over there.

  • Comment removed

  • @unholyascension She explains that her "rage" blinded her. It seems to happen a lot to this very hate filled person. I think she should seek professional help before she hurts herself or worse other people.

  • For info - Galileo was not executed, he was sentenced to house arrest in 1633 and his writings were banned. He died of heart failure(?) in 1642.

  • You are aware that Galileo wasn't executed?

  • Hey Rebecca, I love the SGU and regularly catch your videos here on youtube. I have to call out a correction for you here though. Galileo was not executed by the church. He died of natural causes on January 8th, 1642 at the age of 77. He was, however, under house arrest for his 'blasphemous' assertions. Luckily the Catholic Church is slightly less anti-science today then they were in the 17th century.

  • Does anyone else come here to watch this girl so they see what it looks like when you fail as a parent? I think I would be more proud of my daughter if she became a stripper before someone that hates themselves and so many other people.

  • @BikerBry The only hate I can see is your comments.

Maybe you misunderstand something. Rick Perry is a religious fanatic , he is creationist that reject science and really believe the universe and the earth was created 6000 years ago, and will make sure that your daughter learn that in school instead of facts.

Who will see one like that as the president of USA?

It's not hate, it's just a try to save a country from disaster.

  • @ytbabbler - I don't like Rick Perry, I think he is more of the same. I just think this person in this video is insane.

  • @BikerBry Well, you are free to think what you like, but if you share it with us you can give some examples, I did not see any insane things, but I have only seen this video and none of her others yet.

I don't think it's nice to just call someone insane and not specify the reason for it.

  • @ytbabbler

With any luck, Pastor Prick won't get the Republican nomination. But then again, I really don't see anything that looks like sanity on that side of the aisle.

  • Galileo wasn't executed, the church threatened him with torture and put him under house arrest, but they didn't execute him.

  • @suferable The wiki concurs. with a reference.

  • Jesus: "Do good to those who hate you. Do not seek vengeance upon those who wrong you. Love your neighbor as yourself. Whatever you wish others would do unto you, do also to them."

Perry: "OKAY!! I'll go kill some hundreds of people now in your name! DER!!"

    Jesus: "...."

Rick Perry, you are not truly a follower of Christ, for he is forgiveness, and you are retribution. He is love, and you are hate. If he were alive now, he would pray for god to try VERY hard to forgive you.

  • I always find it weird that people who don't trust the government seem okay with having the government execute people. And, if you need a good way to end a video in a pinch, you can always show a clip of cute puppies.

  • Pretty standard advice, really: Don't stick your hands into bonfires, don't jump off cliffs, don't stick ice picks up into your brains, and don't vote for Rick Perry. Covers all the bases, really.

Yet... people will vote for him, because many people happen to be morons.

  • Is there any way that I, as a brit can offer any meaningful input into the US abolishing the death penalty?

  • I am german and i would love Death sentences in Germany too, sure i know even innocent people get killed, THATS the problem.....but in germany for example, even child molesters can have a happy live after 3-6 months......why do u wish that people live, who ruins innocent lifes ?

  • Wait, what? Don't support Rick Perry because Iran executed three guys?

  • @Madfoot713 No, don't vote for Rick Perry because he allowed a man to be executed who was demonstrably innocent. Scientists wrote reports explaining how the man could not have possibly set the fire that resulted in the death of that man's three children, but Rick Perry either didn't read the report or didn't care about it. He allowed that innocent man to be executed as a murderer. Bad Rick Perry! Bad! Bad!

  • @Crunchy68 That's a much different issue, since Ms. Watson seems to put more emphasis Iranian events and late night comedians than the Cameron Todd Wilmingham case.

    Sigh... lol feminism.

  • @Madfoot713 I think you must not have watched the whole video... she only mentioned the Iranian executions as a prelude to talking about Rick Perry's unjust treatment of CTW.

And I don't see why you're lolling at feminism. It has nothing whatsoever to do with this video.

  • @Crunchy68 cause I got here from her discussions about how oppressed she is in elevators and how Richard Dawkins is an evil misogynist because he dared suggest that Watson's woes are not comparable to shit that happens in the ME.

  • @Madfoot713 You are taking discussions which have nothing to do with this video and letting them not just color, but overshadow any appropriate response you might have had to this video. That's not really a fair or reasonable conversational tactic.

If you're still irate about that old discussion, you should go somewhere it's still being discussed and vent there. In this video she has moved on to new topics, and maybe so should you.

  • Three day ago i tried to do some satire by supporting Rick Perry. Sometimes it is difficult to do satire, To show the logical ends of bad ideas.. This is the case of rick perry and his followers because it is hard to tell the difference between satire and what he believes. Look at his comments on Galieo or global warming.or social security. i was tring for satire. The last sentance should have given it away.

"Vote for Rick Perry and think what this country would be like"

  • why does everyone keeps saying that Galileo was executed by the church...is this like the "lose/loose" thing??

  • @Francium5 wow, no shit. Rebecca, you should look up on the galileo thing.

  • Great video. First Skepchick I've ever seen, and I'm already subscribing. Quick correction though. Galileo was never executed. He was put under house arrest for the remainder of his life, (also not very nice) but he died of natural causes at the ripe old age of 77. It's tough sometimes to keep track of who got executed for stupid reasons and who just got punished and humiliated.

  • I would think it is a no-brainer to NOT vote for Rick Perry, but I think I have it backwards.

  • I wish I had a girl in my life like you! DragonCon! WOOHOO! I love elf girls!~ I love girls that tell people to not vote for Rick the Douche Bag Perry!!!! You ROCK!

  • Execute programs, not people.

  • Was this video intentionally made to mirror Bachmann?

There is a very big difference between executing 'sexual deviants' and mass-murderers (as is the case for Willingham).

You also seemed to be surprised people would cheer that justice was served in the execution of those criminals. Why wouldn't they? They don't have your liberal bias.

And, as was pointed out by everyone paying attention, Galileo was not executed.

  • Galileo was not executed by the church. Galileo was friends with the pope, so the pope order him to a "house arrest". That's it regarding the chizzurch and the moons of Jupiter.

  • Galileo was NOT executed, he dies of a fever and I believe he also had heart problems. Nice job on the Research their.

  • @OatSharpener Actually, I think its 'there', not 'their'. Thanks for playing though. ; )

  • @go1godfurther You got me there, my grammar is atrocious unless I concentrate and re-read.

  • Maybe they were celebrating that 234 executed number because it was down this year.

    Baby steps, Texas! Baby steps!

  • Maybe they were celebrating that 234 executed number because it was down this year.

    Baby steps, Texas! Baby steps!

  • Did they execute Galileo? I thought the church authorities just kept him under house arrest for a decade until he died - which is admittedly much worse than he deserved, but not as bad as execution.

  • How the hell does someone like Rick Perry even get as far as he has already? I'm seriously going in to politics because clearly the right people are not there! Pity I'm in the UK, so President of the USA will be difficult.

  • @Dimenchemist

Rick Perry (moron) + Religion --> egregious psychopath + dead people.

  • texas is where they killed jfk. nuffsaid.

  • Politics is choosing the prettiest talking coil of shit that doesn't smell quite as bad as the others. It has nothing to do with reality or what is necessary for the good of a nation or humanity, nothing to do with facts or science. It has everything to do with gaining the public support of all the climate change denying, young earth creationist, fundamentalist christians to get elected and is founded on an opinion of what should be done, not what actually should be done. lol LARPing. got pics?

  • @Typhoonbladefist

This is so quotable that I'm going to steal it.

  • You guys breed some serious retards in America - Glad i am not American.

  • fuckin magnets, how do they work? and I don't wanna talk to a scientist...

  • If you dyed your eyebrows red it would be the most awesome thing ever.

  • Another damn immoral atheist not wanting us to kill people...sheesh.

  • this rick perry guy sounds like a massive dick!!

  • I have heard of a possible association of Rick Perry with the Christian dominionists who roughly believe they need to take over the country on behalf of Christianity and everywhere inculcate Christian values. I'm glad I don't live in America because if the dominionists took over, I'd be dead along with many other people of various disabilities. And Perry's going for the presidency? Didn't realise he was such a bigwig. Dominionism esp the part Perry might be involved with = scary stuff.

  • @qwistrod the version of Dominionism that Perry might subscribe to is the New Apostolic Reformation. For a sample of Christian Dominionist mentality, see Istan50's comments made earlier. What Istan50 wrote is the sort of thing they believe.

  • @qwistrod

I don't know if he is part of the dominionists, but he certainly subscribes to their outlook. I really do worry, as you do, that if he were to be elected, this could be the beginning of a purge (like Stalin) that would remove, among other things, the disabled, the gays, atheists, and any other people that jeezoids, faith-heads, teabaggers, and similar jerk-offs dislike.

  • @FionnMcCumhail The dominionists are an extreme bunch so I understand. I believe they would ban social security which means the disabled who are usually discriminated against when trying to find employment would have problems supporting themselves.

  • @qwistrod

Basically, the Dominionists are theocrats who want to replace the Constitution with the Old Testament. And they really do want to purge the country. I consider them traitors to the country.

  • @FionnMcCumhail Hope they don't come to England

  • @qwistrod

You already have them in another form: They call themselves "muslims". Welcome to Hell.

  • Ending on an upbeat note would have been showing us what you looked like as an elf.

  • Say, wasn't this the girl who was almost raped, killed and dismembered by Richard Dawkins in an elevator?

  • Respond to this video...

It's amazing how these tales grow with time. Take some time to check out the actual facts.

  • This braude annoys me.

  • Probably agree with the lady on most things... but gotta say, the whole Daria schtick is profoundly annoying. The straightfaced and sarcastic routine is so played out.

Moreover, who goes around declaring they are a 'skeptic?'

  • Galileo wasn't executed, he was put under house arrest and he wasn't allowed to make any other publications. Although it did scare people like Decarte and Newton into making God into center pieces of their theories.

  • @GKCanman Just to nitpick Descartes was scared into suppressing one of his scientific works and Newton was afraid to publish some of his theological theories. All three i.e. Galileo, Descartes and Newton believed in God. Even Giordano Bruno burnt at the stake believed in God. (I checked on Britannica online). Burning people seems to be a popular idea for dealing with those not having precisely the right beliefs. Maybe Rick Perry will reintroduce burning to replace the electric chair.

  • Though I suppose the electric chair is a form of burning. (I'm assuming they use the electric chair in Texas but I could be wrong.)

  • Anyway more serious matters: In the state of Georgia there is a guy on Death Row Troy Davies (black of course) being sentenced to be executed in a few days time. There is a petition on Change(dot)org and you can read about the case. Seems to have been a stitch up. Witnesses were saying they said what the police wanted to hear in order to avoid continued harassment and that sort of thing. Iran executes people for being gay. America executes people for being black.

  • @qwistrod I think I'm jumping the gun here seeing patterns where there are none - after reading the judge's decision on the Troy Davis case, the credibility of the case that Davis was stitched up seemed to collapse. And apart from a vague memory of a comment by a state official which I have not verified, I have no evidence to suggest that America stitches up black people to execute them. Got to do my homework before shooting my mouth off.

  • @qwistrod It's almost creepy how much Descartes made god the center of his universe but he was still scared of the response. I would also imagine they would have killed Newton for denying the trinity.

I've heard good things about Utah's firing squad executions. It sounds very Texan. "BANG BANG you're dead!" Im hoping none of his ideas get carried out because if people facepalm any harder it might kill them, and that just wouldn't be christian.

  • @qwistrod Eh... electricity is kinda like fire...

  • @tweaker1bms I've been up all night and I'm kind of confused. Probably thinking vaguely of how some police officer commented off the record how he was determined to ensure that some innocent black man (although he used the N word) was going to fry. Incidentally I'm in the process of doing a little reading on American miscarriages of justice and other various topics to make sure I'm not talking rubbish.

  • @qwistrod Oh don't think about it too much, I was just making a funny. Like you said the electric chair is sorta like burning :P

  • Anyone whose solution to real problems is to pray them away (lol prayer day) clearly does not have the mental capacity to lead a country.

  • So she made a mistake. I'm sure she realizes this now. Still good points she made in her video.

  • I'd spend my time hitting foam swords with you in the woods instead of spending it justifying and perpetrating murder.

  • Yea, must let you know they did not execute Galileo. I will never vote for a retard who rejects science. Just how stupid does America want to get?

  • Skepchick kinda reminds of Amy Farrah Fowler from Big Bang Theory only Skepchick is a hottie.

    Hi bestie!

  • They should have an ignorance test like the IQ test.... and every presidential candidate would have to take it.... This would most definitely weed out the rick perrys.

And how is it possible in our day in age to disagree with scientists? if your not a scientist you should have NO opinions, because FACTs are not up for debate....

  • Oops! I already voted for Rick Perry. As asshole of the month.

  • @itsonlymepeople He's got my vote.

  • Your vote matters: youtube.com/watch?v=3ip4IklpZfY

  • I thought there might be something intelligent said here. My bad.

  • Rick Perry, former Democrat and butt buddy to Al "I invented the Internet" Gore.

  • Giordano Bruno would have been a better reference than Galileo Galilei.

"Perchance you who pronounce my sentence are in greater fear than I who receive it."-Giordano Bruno 1548-1600

  • Rick Perry !!! The guy is hilarious. Who supports these wing nuts?

  • Even the church knew Galileo was correct, but out of worry that Galileo's notions might undermine the Church's teaching that caused them to put him under house arrest for the remainder of his life and denounce his theories.

Global warming might undermine the Rick Perry teachings that God will take care of us, but we KNOW global warming is man caused (at least in part).

DON"T VOTE FOR RICK PERRY (He is GWBush all over again).

  • @drfoxcourt He is absolutely NOT G.W. Bush all over again. He's G.W. Bush without the brains. A subtle but important distinction.

  • Comment removed

  • @grasd2 No need to get angry, my good sir. Some people jump to conclusions.

  • aren't you that bitch who went insane because someone asked you to have coffee with them, you're a dumbass. galileo wasn't executed. texas executing murderers isn't the same thing as executing men for having penises up their asses. rick perry is obviously a shit candidate you're right about that but even a broken clock is right twice a day

  • Science is illegal in the south

  • @Bleakillusion

Of course it is, we don't want another holocaust.

  • I pledge to not execute people.

Hmm ... This doesn’t make me feel as better as I thought it would.

  • And, can you stop saying stupid shit -- like that Galileo was executed? He wasn't. He was 78 years old when he died in 1642.

  • The 234 people were proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt, and received AUTOMATIC appeals to review the propriety of the verdict, and each of them had 12 jurors unanimously conclude guilt beyond a reasonable doubt. If you have such a lack of trust in the justice system, then how can you even support any criminal verdict?

  • You think that executing horrible murderers is the same as executing people for being gay or preaching to the Jews? You can't be serious.

  • Isn't it a better world where we just hit each other with foam swords in the woods? Sure, but serial rapists and child-murderers aren't playing with foam swords.

Your analysis would be a bit more persuasive if you left out the smugness. While I oppose the death penalty, people do support the death penalty for rational reasons. People support the death penalty because they want to see monstrous crimes punished - it's not the same as executing people for being gay.

  • 4:15 nebody wants to join me? how sexist and inappropriate! don't do that!

  • "I voted for Republicans for thirty years and all they gave me for my votes is this cardboard box to live in." --- down town Santa Fe poster

  • We need a general rule on killing human in life in general. You can't believe in the right to have a abortion and not in executing criminals who have done heinous acts or vice versa. It's either all or nothing.

  • They executed Giordano Bruno.

  • yeah for larping!

  • 4 . End the false teaching by the so called experts. Does the bible say anything about evolution or global warming? No. It should be banned in the classroom. Everything that is taught should should be consistant with the bible. Look how the atheist have corrupted mathematics for instance. There are irrational number, imagery number and even transindental numbers. All we need are natural numbers the one givent to man by god. All these subject must be compared to the bible.

  • 2. End the socializing of american and balance the budget. The House has taken the first step by ending Medicare. We need to end the VA. Why should old solders be forced to socialized medicine from the government. End the VA and let the buy proper health insurance in the market. If they cant do that there are many charities and charities hospitals that are will to step up to the plate.

  • If someone is dumb enough to want to vote for perry there is not much you can do to change their mind because logic and reason is thrown out the window....

  • The church authorities that sentenced Galileo had also utterly refused to look at his evidence.

    "thumb-sword?"

  • People are such neanderthals. . .wait. . .that's unfair to Neanderthals. People who can't look at facts should be incarcerated for their own and everyone else's protection. You've made a good case for wearing elf ears.

  • Rick Perry's only claim to fame is the 1 million jobs his state created. Upon closer examination many of these jobs are the same old low paying and part time junk that doesnt help anybody. There is also tremendous doubt how much personally had a hand in creating them. He is also affiliated with a fanatical Christian movement called the New Apostolic Reformation. He truly is George Bush on Steroids.

  • @Beriaal I'M VOTING FOR RICK PERRY. FUCK OBAMA.... NOT VOTING FOR HIM AGAIN :)

  • @dangelo003 That's like saying "I'm not touching that frying pan any more because it burned me, instead I'll stick my hand straight in the fire." ;)

  • @megamarsvin LOLOL WELL 4 YEARS AGO I WAS IN COLLEGE. NOW I'M RICH BITCH LOLOLOL VOTE FOR RICK PERRY :)

  • Galileo may not have been executed, but that's because he recanted. Giordano Bruno, on the other hand, was executed.

  • Don't VOTE RICK PERRY OR OBAMA! I am a Christian but I agree with everything she said in this videos!

  • So don't vote for Rick Perry because he killed 200 people, but vote for Obama even though he has continued old wars and started new ones, killing hundreds of thousands?

"Yea, but Ron Paul doesn't believe in evolution and is totally sexist!"

    Priorities.

  • The church didn't execute Gal... oh wait, every other comment is about that... nevermind then... I'll just go correct somebody else on the internet... look over there, some guy is wrong about the size of gigabytes! I gotta hurry up!

  • When I watched this video, I wasn't sure if you're planning to vote for Rick Perry or not.

  • Also, galileo wasn't executed. was he? if he was i'm missing something

  • onions are best cooked

  • "christians could you stop doing that" lmao

  • galileo wasn't executed. he was put on house arrest.

  • Rebecca, I love your videos, I'd love if you could do more of them. :)

  • I'm going to vote for Perry just to piss off hipster liberals!
