  • I have no concept what this clip is showing...can you explain please. I hear starter cranking and starting an engine but see no engine and no prop! What engines are they cranking....and what are we looking at?

  • @jonoon27 It is a video comparing two different makes of starters on a particular aircraft engine, In this case, a Teledyne Continental. They are showing the worm gear engaging the crankshaft starter gear and then disengaging after the engine starts. If the worm gear fails to disengage the starter adapter or the engine can be damaged. What I am seeing here is that the Iskra starter is not allowing the worm gear to fully disengage. This causes the worm gear to slightly engagae the starter gear.
