23 points a game as a senior is impressive but not what i'd call dominant. Beasley and Durant averaged nearly 30 points a game as freshman. Imagine what Kobe and Lebron would have averaged as seniors in college, probably around 35 a game. I loved Lenny but there is no guarantee he wouldn't be more than a Rashard Lewis or Robert Horry type, a power forward who prefers to play on the perimeter.
First off, Bias was a power forward, plain and simple. He was too gangly to play small forward or shooting guard and had the frame to add a lot more bulk. You can't compare him to someone like Lebron who could be an All-Star at 4 positions. You can't compare him to shooting guards like Jordan and Kobe. Also remember these are just highlights, Bias had a several areas he needed improvement on such as post moves and rebounding position. Guys like Barkley & Malone would have pushed him around
I watched every Len Bias game, many in person. You are completely wrong! He could have easily played 3 positions in the Pro's. He could shoot with ANYONE! The Celtics made it clear that Bias would be their sixth man as a rookie and would play 2 or 3 positions. Center obviously not being one of them.

It don't think it's fair to definivitely say that Bias would have been better than MJ. Can't really compare MJ's greatness to hypotheticals. However there are two truths about Bias as a basketball player.
1.) He is the greatest "what if" in NBA history. The history of the NBA is definately poorer from not having Bias as part of it.
2.) By all accounts he was one of the greatest and most dominant college players in history.
It may be sad, but things happen for a reason. It was a sad day for Celtic town, but we would have never have gotten Paul Pierce or Rajon Rondo out of the draft.
And a side note: Its weird that Jordan is so cocky and got all this exposure as "the best player ever in the game". He's lucky he never played against a better Len Bias and he never went up against a dominant center in the NBA Finals

First off, Bias was a power forward, plain and simple. He was too gangly to play small forward or shooting guard and had the frame to add a lot more bulk. You can't compare him to someone like Lebron who could be an All-Star at 4 positions. You can't compare him to shooting guards like Jordan and Kobe. Also remember these are just highlights, Bias had a several areas he needed improvement on such as post moves and rebounding position. Guys like Barkley & Malone would have pushed him around

I watched every Len Bias game, many in person. You are completely wrong! He could have easily played 3 positions in the Pro's. He could shoot with ANYONE! The Celtics made it clear that Bias would be their sixth man as a rookie and would play 2 or 3 positions. Center obviously not being one of them.

It don't think it's fair to definivitely say that Bias would have been better than MJ. Can't really compare MJ's greatness to hypotheticals. However there are two truths about Bias as a basketball player.
1.) He is the greatest "what if" in NBA history. The history of the NBA is definately poorer from not having Bias as part of it.
2.) By all accounts he was one of the greatest and most dominant college players in history.

It may be sad, but things happen for a reason. It was a sad day for Celtic town, but we would have never have gotten Paul Pierce or Rajon Rondo out of the draft.
And a side note: Its weird that Jordan is so cocky and got all this exposure as "the best player ever in the game". He's lucky he never played against a better Len Bias and he never went up against a dominant center in the NBA Finals

I remember when Bias died. My friend knocked on my door and told me and I couldn't believe it. I watched the NC - MD game in 84' on my little 13" black & white TV. I got that TV for Christmas with an Atari 2600. I grew up in Baltimore so Bias was the man.

Yes, we do. It took Jordan years to be in a league of his own. Bias would have gotten expelled from the NBA once they knew he was a coke addict. I saw Bias' highlights in a card room w/o any sound and thought he was a new talent. I then told everyone at the table that Bias wouldn't be in the NBA for long b/c I could tell he was a coke user, not realizing that he was already dead, but at least I got the coke part correct. It's really easy to spot a coke head. Look at Bobby Brown.

This is not street cocaine. You don't make money off selling pure coke after paying for product and labor- you dumb it down a little bit, cutting it with something. 98 percent pure was medical grade at the time, used for numbing mouths at the dentist.

I am not sure if you know this, but popping coke is not what drug addicts do for the desired effect. Also, people who do drugs tend to know how to identify good shit from bad shit. If he knew what he was doing, he would have known how to moderate the amount to the desired effect, and he wouldn't have ate it. There's a big gap here between people who saw Bias play, and those who are just going by these highlights. Having watched Bias play, I'll say two things: he was a more sensational player than Jordan in college, and he improved dramatically each year at Maryland. That's why so many people are projecting him as possibly better than Jordan in the pros. What we have to remember, though, is that Jordan developed ways of creating his own shot that Bias perhaps never would have had.

I watched the 84 game against Carolina on my little 13" black & white tv.When certain people die you can remember exactly where you were when you heard the news. What you're saying is all speculation. You can't say the Celtics would have won for sure with Bias. They might have had a chance to win, but you can't assume that. You are one of those what if people. What if this. What is that. Let's look at reality.

@scoresby33 i'm an idiot??? et's not make a conspiracy theory that he would have been better than Jordan. No one can say that. That is ridiculous! What we can say is he had tremendous ability, had two inches on Jordan, was stronger, and had an almost unblockable shot (out of college). The pros are different.
