  • The DC-10 may have had a bad accident history but statistical facts still remain - your more likely to die in a car accident than you are in the air. Plus I believe Biman are gradually phasing out dc-10 and a310 fleets for the T73ER and Dreamliner.

  • Those were the halcyon days of airliners.

  • The DC-10 is an iconic king with amazing durability. With its inspired geometry, it sets itself apart from the sea of increasingly monotonous looking modern airliners. There is nothing like its banjo tail and its huge cockpit windows. The Biman livery and black nose cone are so old school that they are actually hip. I literally gave this aircraft and its crew 3 salutes when I saw it parked at a gate in Hong Kong in 2005.

  • The flawed DC-10. With nearly 1300 fatalities to its name i'd be running a mile. AA flight 191 and Turkish flight 981 ended any hope it would gain favour with the flying public. A complete bucket of shit! Id rather an L-1011 any-day.

  • @ShadowZekromX The crash at Paris is not the reason the Concorde was banned. It was the fact that it was fuel-guzzling and uneconomical. Combine that with rising fuel prices and a post-911 fear of flying is the reason it was pulled out of service.

  • Statistically they may be a safe aircraft but I would be terrified the cargo door would fail at FL 350 and the aircraft would go boom, an engine would fall off and cause the slats to retract during takeoff, engine two would fail and sever all of the hydraulics because they are all right next to each other, the flammable insulation would catch fire over the Atlantic Ocean, etc.

  • Many horrific accidents happened with the DC-10 of which all of them were addressed and gradually fixed... as you say statistically they may be safe lol... but after that history... I think i would be, as they say "shitting my pants" If ever one of those apeared at the gate xD.

I'm sure they are now a great aircraft and their safety record is similar to other aircraft of the same era, but it seems like whenever something has gone wrong with a DC-10, it has REALLY gone wrong. To be fair, 747s have had cargo door issues too.However If I recall correctly, those were mostly age related.

  • @workingstiff76 Well that 747 cargo door problem was design error too. There was malfunction with 747 cargo door lock that triggered uncommanded opening unlike DC-10 which had even worse design error that allowed door to look like locked when its not. But anyway also with 747 there was design error too, properly designed lock cant do uncommanded opening even in case of malfunction.

  • @tom211t lol your right there id rather try flapping my arms at the departure gate and see how that worked out than get on a DC-10 or anything that McDonnell Douglas designed. I once changed flights in Atlanta to avoid being put on an MD-80. Unfortunately my new flight was cancelled and was put back on the MD-80 flight. It was like flying in a pringles can with a couple of lawnmower engines on the back. An aircraft that relies on one single jack screw in the tail to keep the plane in the air?!

  • @thedonscork Had ASA performed proper maintenance, then that jackscrew would never have failed. It's not so much design error as it is user error that caused the jackscrew to fail. The engineers behind the DC-9 series NEVER imagined ANY airline would EVER defer maintenance the way ASA did.

    And IIRC, the Bombardier CRJ series, Embraer ERJ series, Avro RJ-85, Boeing 727, VC-10, Hawker Siddely Trident, Ilyushin Il-62, and Tupolev Tu-154 all have t-tails and a single jackscrew.

Airbus, Boeing, Bombardier, Embraer; they all make great aircraft that really push the boundaries of aviation. People like you really are pathetic

  • @aspiringdrummer17 The only reason that airbus at present has a slight advantage over Boeing in terms of units delivered to the U.S. is because they are CHEAPER......Get back with me in about another 15-20 years, as the airbus fleet ages and we can discuss all of the incidences of their cheap ass, composite tail assemblies disintegrating in mid flight, their cheap, unreliable pitot tubes failing ect.......

  • @Koldobika8A It's a DC-10 - Biman Bangladesh have never had an MD-11. The DC-10 is shorter and has different engines as well as other distinct differences.

  • biman bangladesh airlines is the worst airlines ever. the service is very very bad, the cabin crews are rude (specially fully bangladeshi) and the food is disgusting. also there is no entertainment inflight. i'd prefer to fly emirates to bangladesh vacation with better service, better food and entertainment inflight.

  • I'm an Airbus-Fan and I love the new generation of airplanes with all the computers and technology.. but seeing this beast taxi and take-off gave me goosebumps like no other airplane does! This airplane is from an era when flying was still an adventure and a privilege, not a form of mass travel. This plane has a magic about itself that the new planes (that I love!) dont and never will..

It does have a magic to it, like all solid built vintage US made cars from the 60's - 70's... it was quiet, smooth, BIG, there was room for everyone, and it had TORQUE... Of course, the MD-11 is fitted with winglets (jester feet). The DC-10 has a lean and hungry look, like the 707 did - it's primitive, and proud of it - a pilot's plane.

  • The DC-10 is probably the coolest sounding commercial airliner ever. Just an incredible turbine whir while taxiing, the spool-up is amazing, and the thrusters generate some of the awesomest power you can feel down to your loins. Plus the thing is ear-splitting loud if you're too damned close. Miles away you can hear it in the distance and feel it's power. Today's aircraft are just way too quiet!

  • I would like to see an early-generation DC-10 without the center gear. The center gear only showed up on the long-range high-weight DC-10-30. I remember at Atlanta, seeing both types in the early 80s. Atlanta for years had one real jumbo, a 747 from KLM, but many DC-10s to Europe (I flew on one to Gatwick, British Caledonian).

  • Man that DC-10 got up in a hurry, even going all the way to Bangladesh. McDonnell built high-performance aircraft. This isn't knocking Boeing, I'm just saying, they knew wings and thrust.

  • @TTDMFfreaknew I blame the Americans. Just for one simple crash that Concorde made, they called it unsafe. While airbus 747s,DC-10s fell down from the sky a thousand times(many times). I always wanted to get on a Concorde.

After the repairs to all Concordes it was simply too expensive to keep them going, the U.S. didnt even yank the program, it was airbus.   • @bakaranger1991 Its because only 20 concordes were ever built, when nearly 1.500 B747´s have been built, so its just natural that 747 has more crashes, but because it has hundreds of times more flight hours its fatality rate per number of flights is much smaller than Concorde´s.

    Normal plane wouldnt crash like Concorde did when that piece of metal hit it.
