The DC-10 may have had a bad accident history but statistical facts still remain - your more likely to die in a car accident than you are in the air. Plus I believe Biman are gradually phasing out dc-10 and a310 fleets for the T73ER and Dreamliner.
The DC-10 is an iconic king with amazing durability. With its inspired geometry, it sets itself apart from the sea of increasingly monotonous looking modern airliners. There is nothing like its banjo tail and its huge cockpit windows. The Biman livery and black nose cone are so old school that they are actually hip. I literally gave this aircraft and its crew 3 salutes when I saw it parked at a gate in Hong Kong in 2005.
@The747Captain I like the DC 10 too, but you can´t compare it with the tu 154, because the DC 10 has engine 1 and 2 on the wings, the tu 154 at the rear. I don´t mean that the tupolev is better or worse, I like them both.
It looks like it could fall into pieces any second and all that's left are the pilots in their chairs on the runway and the control sticks still in their hands lol.
The flawed DC-10. With nearly 1300 fatalities to its name i'd be running a mile. AA flight 191 and Turkish flight 981 ended any hope it would gain favour with the flying public. A complete bucket of shit! Id rather an L-1011 any-day.
@ShadowZekromX The crash at Paris is not the reason the Concorde was banned. It was the fact that it was fuel-guzzling and uneconomical. Combine that with rising fuel prices and a post-911 fear of flying is the reason it was pulled out of service.
Statistically they may be a safe aircraft but I would be terrified the cargo door would fail at FL 350 and the aircraft would go boom, an engine would fall off and cause the slats to retract during takeoff, engine two would fail and sever all of the hydraulics because they are all right next to each other, the flammable insulation would catch fire over the Atlantic Ocean, etc.
Many horrific accidents happened with the DC-10 of which all of them were addressed and gradually fixed... as you say statistically they may be safe lol... but after that history... I think i would be, as they say "shitting my pants" If ever one of those apeared at the gate xD.
@tom211t Exactly. I'm sure they are now a great aircraft and their safety record is similar to other aircraft of the same era, but it seems like whenever something has gone wrong with a DC-10, it has REALLY gone wrong. To be fair, 747s have had cargo door issues too. However If I recall correctly, those were mostly age related.
@workingstiff76 Well that 747 cargo door problem was design error too. There was malfunction with 747 cargo door lock that triggered uncommanded opening unlike DC-10 which had even worse design error that allowed door to look like locked when its not. But anyway also with 747 there was design error too, properly designed lock cant do uncommanded opening even in case of malfunction.
@tom211t lol your right there id rather try flapping my arms at the departure gate and see how that worked out than get on a DC-10 or anything that McDonnell Douglas designed. I once changed flights in Atlanta to avoid being put on an MD-80. Unfortunately my new flight was cancelled and was put back on the MD-80 flight. It was like flying in a pringles can with a couple of lawnmower engines on the back. An aircraft that relies on one single jack screw in the tail to keep the plane in the air?!
@thedonscork Had ASA performed proper maintenance, then that jackscrew would never have failed. It's not so much design error as it is user error that caused the jackscrew to fail. The engineers behind the DC-9 series NEVER imagined ANY airline would EVER defer maintenance the way ASA did.
And IIRC, the Bombardier CRJ series, Embraer ERJ series, Avro RJ-85, Boeing 727, VC-10, Hawker Siddely Trident, Ilyushin Il-62, and Tupolev Tu-154 all have t-tails and a single jackscrew.
@thedonscork So if having a single jackscrew is your only reason for disliking the DC-9 series, and by association McDonnell Douglas, than your argument is pretty weak.
BTW.....Airbus planes look like total shit....Fat, blunt nosed, stubby wings and short tails.......an embarrassment, regardless of the technology.......Boeing has still retained some design and stylistic prowess.....I'm glad to have learned that more and more U.S. carriers are going back with Beoing after they retire their disposable a320's 318's ect........

@gatorman1067 More Airbuses are operated by American airlines than any other country in the world and funnily enough American Airlines operates more Airbuses than any other American airline. @aspiringdrummer17 The only reason that airbus at present has a slight advantage over Boeing in terms of units delivered to the U.S. is because they are CHEAPER......Get back with me in about another 15-20 years, as the airbus fleet ages and we can discuss all of the incidences of their cheap ass, composite tail assemblies disintegrating in mid flight, their cheap, unreliable pitot tubes failing ect.......
@gatorman1067 Actually the A320 family which is the most common type of Airbus in the US is around $10 million more expensive than the 737. I understand however that you aren't an aircraft enthusiast, just a typical delluded fanboy
Yeah right. Everything that was developed and produced outside the USandA is nothing but a a piece of ....Didn't several 737/400 lose parts of their cabin roof not long ago.

As a bengali and practicing muslim, although living my life in new zealand and the united states, i am proud to say that my mother country as abolished the islamic law in its judicial system. religion and state should not coexist, it should be separate. religion is your personal thing. also there are a lot of hindu and christian bengalis aswell. religion is your personal thing, if you really love god, you dont need to boast about it. look @ paki where they have islamic law in place, bad place
bad place in terms of women arent given as much oppurtunity as bangladesh, the government although corrupt as hell. ugh, its the same. terrorism in the name of religion does not exist. in many aspects, bangladesh is ahead. we are ahead, its just our stupid government
@justtakeiteasy I dont know about pakistan, and frankly i dont NEED to no about pakistan or any other country to compare Bangladesh to. i no BD is not islamic. uno how? because the countrys courts have abolished "Shariah law" (islamic law) as the main judicial system, saying its "optional".
now, in a country which has over 90% its ppl as muslims, how is this possible? if they r not abiding by Islamic law, then ...HOW can u call someone muslim?
Q: "How do I tell a DC-10 from an MD-10 or 11?" A: DC-10 has an enormous stabilizer. MD-10/11 has a trim tank where before, brute aerodynamic force was needed. MD-11 is much longer. Of course, the MD-11 is fitted with winglets (jester feet). The DC-10 has a lean and hungry look, like the 707 did - it's primitive, and proud of it - a pilot's plane.
I love those rolling takeoffs...turn right and push the throttle all the way! Would love to actually be on a flight that did that...on something larger than a 738!
@ghettoperson257 LESS than five kts!!!!!!!! NOT at 5 kts!!! And why the heck do you have to make the same damn stupid comment on more than one Video??
The DC-10 is probably the coolest sounding commercial airliner ever. Just an incredible turbine whir while taxiing, the spool-up is amazing, and the thrusters generate some of the awesomest power you can feel down to your loins. Plus the thing is ear-splitting loud if you're too damned close. Miles away you can hear it in the distance and feel it's power. Today's aircraft are just way too quiet!
I would like to see an early-generation DC-10 without the center gear. The center gear only showed up on the long-range high-weight DC-10-30. I remember at Atlanta, seeing both types in the early 80s. Atlanta for years had one real jumbo, a 747 from KLM, but many DC-10s to Europe (I flew on one to Gatwick, British Caledonian).
Man that DC-10 got up in a hurry, even going all the way to Bangladesh. McDonnell built high-performance aircraft. This isn't knocking Boeing, I'm just saying, they knew wings and thrust.
You paki dont . you know we are the decendent of haj raat sha jelal the first muslim saint in south asia sylhet bangladesh , sufi islam .you pakistanis make me sick, look at your country now a war zone . you say we sold our country for greed so look in to the facts before u speake , and ur selling your country to the US........get lost find ur self a dark coner the droms are coming bitch
@TTDMFfreaknew I blame the Americans. Just for one simple crash that Concorde made, they called it unsafe. While airbus 747s,DC-10s fell down from the sky a thousand times(many times). I always wanted to get on a Concorde.
@bakaranger1991 Why blame an entire race you moron? It was Continental Airlines fault not THE ENITRE COUNTRY. After the repairs to all Concordes it was simply too expensive to keep them going, the U.S. didnt even yank the program, it was airbus. Don't let your ignorant anti-Americanism get in the way of reason.
@TTDMFfreaknew WoW! Dude I didn't Mean the hole U.S.A. I meant a particular Airline. But, I didn't know who to blame. Why do you think i am anti-American? Your crazy.
@bakaranger1991 Its because only 20 concordes were ever built, when nearly 1.500 B747´s have been built, so its just natural that 747 has more crashes, but because it has hundreds of times more flight hours its fatality rate per number of flights is much smaller than Concorde´s.
Normal plane wouldnt crash like Concorde did when that piece of metal hit it.
The DC-10 may have had a bad accident history but statistical facts still remain - your more likely to die in a car accident than you are in the air. Plus I believe Biman are gradually phasing out dc-10 and a310 fleets for the T73ER and Dreamliner.

As a bengali and practicing muslim, although living my life in new zealand and the united states, i am proud to say that my mother country as abolished the islamic law in its judicial system. religion and state should not coexist, it should be separate. religion is your personal thing. also there are a lot of hindu and christian bengalis aswell. religion is your personal thing, if you really love god, you dont need to boast about it. look @ paki where they have islamic law in place, bad place
skbuoy 9 months ago
bad place in terms of women arent given as much oppurtunity as bangladesh, the government although corrupt as hell. ugh, its the same. terrorism in the name of religion does not exist. in many aspects, bangladesh is ahead. we are ahead, its just our stupid government

@justtakeiteasy how do u no? what r u, a bangladeshi too? r u muslim ?
nafism6969 9 months ago
@justtakeiteasy because they r clueless about their OWN religion.
they dont even bother to learn about Islam.
most ppl in Bangladesh r dumb and stupid in regards to their own religio.
thats y they get fucked from all corners of the globe.
they're stupid, dumb, and heedless.
nafism6969 9 months ago
@justtakeiteasy I dont know about pakistan, and frankly i dont NEED to no about pakistan or any other country to compare Bangladesh to. i no BD is not islamic. uno how? because the countrys courts have abolished "Shariah law" (islamic law) as the main judicial system, saying its "optional".
now, in a country which has over 90% its ppl as muslims, how is this possible? if they r not abiding by Islamic law, then ...HOW can u call someone muslim?
so how is BD a muslim country?
nafism6969 9 months ago
@justtakeiteasy yupp

@justtakeiteasy LOL. bangladesh has morals? im assuming uv never been to bangladesh.

they dont even know their OWN religion.
ask them what Islam is and they wouldnt have a clue.

The DC-10 has a lean and hungry look, like the 707 did - it's primitive, and proud of it - a pilot's plane.
antimatterXXXIII 10 months ago
@antimatterXXXIII and an MD-10 is a modernized version of a DC-10

Today's aircraft are just way too quiet!
zenmachinefilms 11 months ago
I like this ”mouse nose” from DC10
unselfcontrol 1 year ago 23
@unselfcontrol Agreed! It's very reminiscent of prop liners, something Douglas pilots would have expected.
antimatterXXXIII 10 months ago
I would like to see an early-generation DC-10 without the center gear. The center gear only showed up on the long-range high-weight DC-10-30. I remember at Atlanta, seeing both types in the early 80s. Atlanta for years had one real jumbo, a 747 from KLM, but many DC-10s to Europe (I flew on one to Gatwick, British Caledonian).
antimatterXXXIII 10 months ago
Man that DC-10 got up in a hurry, even going all the way to Bangladesh. McDonnell built high-performance aircraft. This isn't knocking Boeing, I'm just saying, they knew wings and thrust.

DC-10's will burn in hell for murdering Concorde.
TTDMFfreaknew 1 year ago
@TTDMFfreaknew I blame the Americans. Just for one simple crash that Concorde made, they called it unsafe. While airbus 747s,DC-10s fell down from the sky a thousand times(many times). I always wanted to get on a Concorde.
bakaranger1991 1 year ago
@bakaranger1991 Why blame an entire race you moron? It was Continental Airlines fault not THE ENITRE COUNTRY. After the repairs to all Concordes it was simply too expensive to keep them going, the U.S. didnt even yank the program, it was airbus. Don't let your ignorant anti-Americanism get in the way of reason.
TTDMFfreaknew 1 year ago
@TTDMFfreaknew WoW! Dude I didn't Mean the hole U.S.A. I meant a particular Airline. But, I didn't know who to blame. Why do you think i am anti-American? Your crazy.
bakaranger1991 1 year ago
@bakaranger1991 "I blame the Americans". Im crazy?
TTDMFfreaknew 1 year ago
@TTDMFfreaknew For the last time, I am not anti-American. Sorry if you took it the wrong way. As i said before, I didn't know who to blame.
bakaranger1991 1 year ago
@bakaranger1991 Its because only 20 concordes were ever built, when nearly 1.500 B747´s have been built, so its just natural that 747 has more crashes, but because it has hundreds of times more flight hours its fatality rate per number of flights is much smaller than Concorde´s.
Normal plane wouldnt crash like Concorde did when that piece of metal hit it.
