  • Love, love, love Polly

    xxx

  • me and you..we were never more than a dream..

  • weird but true

  • lovers but strangers

  • We were

    Never more than a dream

    Brief as

    Summer or spring

    Sweeter than anything

  • I like !!!!!!!!!

  • Is this PJ who wrote teh song or Bonnie Prince Billy?

  • @AgyDeyn Polly

  • this song is perfect...

  • i love the honesty and emotion ,beautiful song :)

  • i wonder if this is about her break-up with nick cave

  • @thedeadandpoorfolk : Any idea where i can get one?

  • perfect music for a rainy day like this! (and im ill too, that sucks) but the music is soo...great

  • Brings a tear to my eye...

  • I can't believe this is a b-side, it's amazing!

  • The lyrics are so sad! This is brilliant - I love her voice in the whole Is This Desire album!

  • I really can't understand why this is 'just' a b-side.

  • Whether I was happy or sad this song really hit me hard under emotional strain, Pj Harvey is a true artist, love her

  • This is my all time favorite PJ Harvey song ... the only thing I'd take with me to a desert island.

  • This has instantly become one of my favorite songs

  • I hate the fact, that my favorite songs (Like this one or memphis) are not on any Album from her! :(

And if i am wrong - On which Album i can find them?

  • @SteeRnschNuPPe they're are "only" b-sides so you can find them on "A Perfect Day Elise" and Good Fortune" singles

  • @ZZqezza ye, this on my b-sides album. cannot believe i had it and didn't know it. some kind of fan I am

  • @SteeRnschNuPPe I have a b-sides album that has both songs

  • @thedeadandpoorfolk in the states am i.

  • this can reduce anyone to a puddle

  • This is the first PJ Harvey song I've heard where I've felt real, surprising vulnerability and emotional risk, not just intelligent, but slightly clinical, use of style. It's really good.

  • One of my favorite PJ songs.

  • so sad our memory

  • this song crept up on me last night, so perfect.

  • @ZZqezza I've never heard "The Northwood", I love that title. Who Will Love Me Now, is also amazing.

  • So haunting. It's taken me a long time to be able to listen to this again

  • could you upload "The Northwood"?

  • This is truly amazing. Great song.

  • this song is so good it fucking hurts

  • I agree.

  • memories of safety and happiness.

  • Superb... Greetings from CHASMA!!!

  • I love the b-sides. I hope she comes out with a cd or cds that have all the rare/b-side songs on it.

  • so sad im a memory*

  • Can't believe this never made it onto an album. Probably my favourite b-side.

  • When Peej said that "Is This Desire?" was her greates work, she must've mean the b-sides to, because I rank this up there with her greatest work.

It's a damn shame that album didn't click as good as the others. It truly was a masterpiece.

  • Definitely. It's the first work of hers I heard and my favourite as well. Do you know what year she said Desire was her greatest work? Wonder if she still prefers it over, say, White Chalk (which is a close second to me).

  • She said that in 2004 and I think she still considers it her masterpiece because she said she made it during a difficult time in her life (supposedly partly due to her break-up with Nick Cave).

They say you create your greatest work in the face of adversity. The same reigns with PJ.

  • Sorry, I accidentally hit the wrong icon, since I meant to select the thumbs up. I couldn't agree with you more regarding this statement and it does really comes through in her work. *big thumbs up*

  • As Shelly wrote 200 years ago -

"Our sweetest songs / are songs of loss"

  • Really I cannot agree this is her greatest work. Peel has his own taste but this album was really much more homogenous and rather lacking in the energy and dynamism of the previous ones.

  • Oops I misread your post. I thought you meant John Peel said it's her greatest work.

Well I guess I have to disagree with PJ then :)

  • Ugh. This song... always makes me feel like crying.

  • Don't talk about a commoner (i.e., Jenny Lewis) in the world of Polly.

  • fuck the crap...whos listen more, who not?are you guys serious?:-))

every song is his own expirience...a look into her soul...and itdoesnt matter waht song is the best...

i love this song becouse ,i can compare with this lyrics...its the feeling when you get, when your love flows away...when you lost that somebody..that was so near, over years.

its about the songwriting..and its important taht everyone gets a personal version of a song like that...sry my english is not so good:-)

  • SUPER NICE!

  • So beatiful! Not her best but its PJ I like the best... Have you got any other songs from Is This Desire? era?

  • i think certain people, especially musicians can hear the intense passion (and evident personal expierience) in this song, intense even for PJ.

So I agree with those that rank this among her very best.

  • Her Greatest Song.....

  • such a beautiful song. So said I.

  • One of the best songs Pj Harvey has ever recorded

  • amen to that

  • Really? I mean, it's ok, but not one of the best she's ever recorded. I think I could mention at least 20 songs that are better than this one.

  • I don't know... I used to be a huge fan of Pj Harvey but don't listen to her as much anymore. However out fo all of her songs this is one I can alwasy come back to and enjoy as much as the first time i heard it. The lyrics are fantastic.

  • Ok, What about Angeline, White Chalk, A Perfect Day Elise, To Bring You My Love, Send His Love To Me, Long Snake Moan, Kamikaze, The Whores Hustle And The Hustler's Whore or The Garden...? Just some few songs. Have you ever really listened to her albums? You should do that and take the time to get into her sound.

  • For your information I own every album Pj Harvey has ever released including Dance hall at louse point and her DvD from the Uh Huh Her tour. All the songs you have listed are excellent especially Angelene... However this song, Horses in my dreams, Is this desire and water are my favourites. Why are you so averse to the thought of me enjoying this song? You are just looking for a fight maybe :P....

  • No no, not at all. I'm sorry that my wording is not that good in English. I never look for a fight like that. Too many arguments here on youtube end up very primitiv and insulting. Of course you're allowed to like this song - why not? But as I said, I don't think it's one of the best songs she's ever recorded. I own all of her rerleases too, including all of he alternative recordings. I was just wondering why you don't really listen to PJ Harvey anymore.

  • Don't worry about it. I still do listen to PJ Harvey just not as much as I used to, she was my all time favourite artist but now I listen to much more varied music so I don't have as much time for her. I still think shes wonderful!

  • Well, glad we got this sorted out. I see, what you mean. Personally, I listen to a lot of Jenny Lewis at the moment.

  • I'm also a fan of jenny! Her new song acid tongue is fantastic!

  • Yeah, it's really great. Acid Tougue is probably my favorite off of her new album though it's not mentioned in the reviews I've read. But her new album is fantastic. She's beautiful and a very talented singer/songwriter. It's wierd that it's not possible to find more videos with her on youtube...

  • @goldiecox34 totally fucking agree.

  • :D

    what a pleasant surprise.
