in 1991 this song inspired me to make a gigantic move and that was to move to California from Florida at the age of 20. I'm still here in California and so grateful that I made that step. It was super scary at the time. I knew one person out here then. It changed my life forever.
I only listen to it once and awhile...I don't know if anybody understands. This song speaks to me sooo pointently that a dose of this song once a week is more than enough. :)))
@malkeh2008 Absolutely brother! I was so fortunate to see them play live in my home town in Australia back in the early 90's and they have been my absolute favorite band ever since.
Hey, that opening shot is the corner of Tipton Road and Highway 111, where the old Palm Springs train station once existed!!! The foundation is still there. And last I heard, Johnette is just over the hills to the north in Joshua Tree!
fell in love with Johnette and James Mankey 21 years ago (ugh!) to this song back in the day when MTV played MUSIC. Still a uber fan. the music holds up...
@goochieguy So you don't remember Tiffany, Debbie Gibson, Milli Vanilli, Men Without Hats, A-ha, New Kids or Michael Damian. I can go on and on, and there's always tons o' dreck for every decade. There's also plenty of good and great music, but you won't hear it on the radio anymore. That basically ended in the 80's too.
This song became a favorite of mine when Jack McCoy used it in a classic Billabong surf movie showing a FEW guys ripping a secluded, glassy left break. Since then, this is required listening when I go off on surfing or snowboarding trips...
I too love that first album. Not a bad cut on it. Johnette's voice is so powerful. Full of depth and clarity. Her inflection is virtually perfect. Very few females singers can touch her range and delivery. Watching this video is a bit sad as the time has pushed us all up a tread more towards the end. Takes me back to simpler times. Back when Calif was fun and exciting. Those were good times and CB was there to share them.
last 10 bucks; just as far as it will go. i remember listening to this lyric on a balcony in a b-more apt on a summer night in what was it, the 80s, of all places. the disk i got had an instrumental version of this as well. i didn't think i liked instrumental version's till i heard this song. i played this album for my friends and co-workers and although they 'liked' it, they never really 'got' it.
i first heard Concrete Blonde in a sci- fi movie, I think it was "the Hidden". The next day I wnt out, bought the tape. Pretty much wore it out. My point is I love Concrete Blonde and I am as shallow and superfiscial as they get.
Heard this song when it came out in the UK (1987 I think) on the recommendation of Maria McKee. Great lyric set to a nice tune. 80's production cant spoil it.
Heard a few Concrete Blonde songs in the soundtrack of the sci-fi movie The Hidden. One stuck in my head, "Your Haunted Head". Had to buy the CD, their first. CD's just hit in '86, and it was one of my first. Love "True", the video is great! "Beware of Darkness" on their first album was written by George Harrison. I think the drummer and Jhonette Napolitano had a thing going then. She has such a sexy low voice. Saw the band live in the early 90's at Milwaukee Summerfest. Thanks for posting!
This was the first Concrete Blonde song I heard but didn't know it was by them until I bought Bloodletting in high-school and got into 'em. I couldn't go to any of their concerts though cos they were all in pubs in Sydney and I was underage. I tried to see em in store though. I was disturbingly obsessed for a time :-(
Best album they put out. Johnette you are hot!! Never seen this video- thanx for posting. Ahh....memories- I met my wife of 15 years at a Concrete Blonde gig in Sydney!

@goochieguy you really think Taylor and Carrie are talentless? thats waving the wand real broadly....
there are lots of others on the radio and tv that have close to zilch, but these girls are not them :)
