  • LOL That reminds of all the stuff these days about the TSA. I wonder if they touched Mary's junk!

  • Thank you so much for the upload!!!

To date, this scene was never included in the syndicated reruns, old VHS tapes or the DVDs....I have always read that Mary Tyler Moore appeared in the first episode, but was never able to find this anywhere for years...THX AGAIN!!!!

  • Dang! Why didn't they keep that?!

    That's perfect!!

Thanks for uploading, and thanks to your friend!

  • Thanks for your comments,so glad I taped it,this scene does exist but Shout sadly, seem reluctant to re-release Rhoda season1 remastered and with missing scenes included.

  • @dramaticguy Yeah, one reason why I didn't wanna own it, lol.

But I still like it... Yeah, a lot of ppl were upset when they heard. I have a friend who wanted to cancel her order of the set when she heard, but I believe ended up keeping it, anyway.

  • great memories - wish they'd bring this out on DVD for UK audience format...

  • It's great to see this opening again! I saw it many years ago at NYC's Museum of Television and Radio Arts but have never found it anywhere else.

  • @teeveebuff I taped it from the UK Family Channel in the mid 90s,Jaldridge86 kindly uploaded it on to youtube, yes it is very rare.

  • This was NOT included for the dvds!!!!!!! Only the edited version....DON'T buy the show even if you like it.

  • @kduideo if you're US based,Hulu.com are screening four unedited Rhoda episodes:

The Shower,The Lady In Red,"Anything Wrong? and I'm A Little Folks.

  • MARY WAS SO HOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Have to say Rhoda season2 is unedited and remastered, hope they re-release Rhoda season1 in the same way.

  • @dramaticguy first season was a joke.

  • don't buy the dvd....THIS clip is MISSING.

  • Still on the lookout for as many unedited S1 Rhodas that exist out there!

  • this is not on first season DVD. Morons didn't do their research.

  • Hey Hey Hey..Priceless!

  • Because 20th Century-Fox owns the rights to the MTM library, they really don't care about releasing "RHODA" on DVD [they prefer making money from their own recent series]. This is why there were "syndicated" (edited) versions of season one episodes on that disc, instead of going into the vault and "remastering" the original episodes....

  • I think also Shout lazily just put edited syndicated prints on to DVD,they have listened to complaints though and season2 and 3 will be unedited.

  • don't buy it on dvd....as THIS is EDITED-OUT.......

  • Thanks for sharing, great clip.

Rhoda was one of my favourite shows.

    Jessie

  • Thank you so much for posting the original opening of Rhoda. I have not seen this since it's debut in 1974. It's a shame it is not on the DVD. It actually explains how Rhoda got to New York. A story always begins with a beginning and this is it!!!! Thanks for posting, Please post some more originals. I love Rhoda!!!!!!!!!!!

  • It's GREAT!

A much better way to start a great series.

It is so sad they didn't include this original version on the DVD set.

  • @dramaticguy....well, yeah, I'd think they were in the vault. It's in the AmericanLife airing, right? (at the expense of other scenes though...) But I mean copies that would be accessible to *us*. And since UKFC seems reliable, I hope we can find others with other S1 eps. we need.

Speaking of AmericanLife...anyone who has it know if they ever showed the St. Elsewhere finale? And if so, which end credits did they use?

  • Yes keep the pressure up,i agree

  • Here is a call-out to anyone who had UK Family Channel back in the day: we do have some some recordings of Rhoda from the station already...our goal is to get ALL the S1 episodes that had syndie edits appear on the official DVD. So if ANYONE is out there who has anything this poster and dramaticguy don't, please tell either ASAP! We can possibly put together a "real" complete season 1 set of our own!

  • The season1 episodes exist completely in the US MTM vaults,,the recent cable shows in the US showed that. ie the airport scene in the pilot.

I agree with your calls for a complete season1 of Rhoda on DVD,maybe on the 40th aniversary.

  • Season 3 of Rhoda coming out in July 10!

  • Mary Tyler Moore had a RACK, my God!

  • This is a great find! How pitiful that the producers of the DVD release could not find this, and here it is on YouTube! Thank God for YouTube.

  • the great Mary Tyler Moore...........timeless

  • Great. I've never seen this TV show. But this sene is really funny!!

  • What a great scene! I can't believe this was not on the first season DVD release!

  • The opening sequence featuring Mary and Rhoda was seen only in the first episode (and, I believe, the '75 repeat). It was omitted in all syndicated versions, and those was the ones featured in the '80s videocassette copies as well.

  • I got this from the UK Family Channel in the mid 90s,never thought it would turn out to be so rare!

  • one of the coolest classic television finds ever

    thanks for posting!

  • Wow, the show's opening looks sharper and clearer here than it does on t he DVD's!! Thanks so much for posting this! A lot of people who bought the DVD's probably thought they'd never see this!!

  • i know i didn't. they nvr did explain how she came to the fact of staying forever on either shows. on mtm i always look for when mary says rhoda says she decided to stay in ny but it nvr does!!!!!

  • I think a big deal wasn't made of leaving MTM in case the Rhoda pilot didn't work, then at the start of season 5 of MTM Rhoda was mentioned then the cast of MTM went to Rhoda's wedding.

  • Besides the recent DVD I also have this from MTM Home Video on VHS. It says on the back of the box that MTM guest starred on this episode but when you play the video she is no where to be seen! Thanks for letting me finally see it!

  • I have Phyllis the vhs of the first two episodes and the pre titles scene is there.

Been enjoying all your posts icluding Mary from 85!

  • I've watched Rhoda a couple of times and bumped into this episode on a TV Land rerun a few years back (probably on their salute to N@N special, I think?) and never knew about this scene until now.

This is why I hated when this show went into syndication how they poorly edited the episodes on here in the U.S..

  • No way! I've been a fan of Rhoda for YEARS and had no idea this scene existed?! This is incredible! Did all first season episodes have a little teaser in the beginning?

    Thanks for posting this man!

  • If you are reffering to the "My name is Rhoda..." bit, yes. However, it was truncated in some syndicated episodes.

  • No, I wasn't referring to the opening credits, aka the "My Name is Rhoda..." part... although I have noticed that the opening credits are different from episode to episode.

I meant did the other first season episodes have entire scenes before the opening credits, like the pilot did?

There were a handful of Hogan Family episodes (Valerie Harper's next series) that had scenes before the opening credits - but like this, they too fell victim to the chopping block in syndication.

  • In that case, this is the only one.

  • The opening episodes of the first episode of Phyllis season1 and the opening episode of season2 of Phyllis have a pre titles sequence too, hope thats not cut when that show makes it to DVD.

  • I looked up this episode on The Paley Center, and it says that it's 30 minutes long, without commercials, but this version, counting the missing footage, is roughly 25:22. The syndicated version was, of course, 22:40.

  • Its such a shame Rhoda has been treated so badly on DVD release.

Shout really made a mess of the release,I do accept some episodes are damaged,I believe episode 3 particularly is but the fact so many episodes on DVD running at 22:24 when most are intact,is pretty bad.

  • It's been well over a year since I watched this... is there a tag scene at the end with Mary as well? I can't remember. If so, any chance of also seeing that?

  • No, the tag scene is exactly the same in syndication. Joe running out because his car is being towed, and Rhoda sightseeing around NYC. I will post the original credit sequence though, that was butcherd in syndication to remove MTM.

  • Thanks! I watched this at the Paley Center in L.A. and loved it.

  • and I'm old enough to send the both of you to bed without your supper! LOL

  • Hey you can't send Curt to bed too early. He has Rhoda, MTM, Knotts Landing, and 3's Company reruns to watch!!!

  • even *more* of a punishment! LOL

  • That's "Knots Landing" heh ;)

  • I wonder if Don Knotts ever went to Knott's Berry Farm? ;)

  • Hi I taped this from the Family Channel in the UK in the mid 90s,is so rare now.

I sent to a a guy in the US and hes kindly uploaded here.

I read this unedited pilot exists in a TV exhibiton in Los Angeles and New York, bizarre it wasn't put on the season1 DVD along with many unedited episodes of Rhoda.

  • Totally agree, I'm a bit nervous as season2 of Rhoda is advertised as Season2 and not the complete season2.

I'm stuck if there are edited episodes of season2, as I only have the opening episode of season2 on vhs, unedited.

I live in hope, season 1 of Rhoda will come out in a few years as the complete season1,The Lucy Show was brought out edited and terrible picture quality a few years ago but has now been released complete and remastered.
