Where I live, the minimum wage is 11 dollars an hour if you are under the age of 18. I'm 19, and worked for 3 months on the minimum wage of 20 dollars an hour, and I can support myself for not only those 3 months, but two months in addition. I don't worry about money. I even halfway support my sister, and I pay for our education. And where do I live? In one of the worlds most expensive countries, where the price of gas is more than 13 dollars per gallon, and we don't even complain much about it.

Raising the minimum wage a couple of bucks an hour doesn't spell disaster for the economy, but it does have an effect. Most people seem to think that the cost comes straight out of a CEO's salary or something. The higher ups just pass the cost onto the consumer more often than not.
Do you buy more candy if they raise the price? Do you think employers are going to hire more people if you raise the minimum wage? Have news for you. The jobs get shipped overseas or eliminated. But the most insidious part is most companies will simply cut employee benefits to pay for the higher wage.

I don't know if actual studies have shown to be the most common result of a minimum wage increase, but the bottom line is that the people who run companies have a hundred ways to pay for the increase, and the last thing they're going to do is pay for it out of their own pocket. They'll look for every way to make the "little man" pay for it first, so raising the minimum wage does more harm than good. (It's virtual the same situation with corporate taxes, by the way.)

When you raise the price of something, like gas for example, we all know that it hurts everyone, even if they don't drive because it cost more for trucks to get food from place to place and so on. Although a lower minimum wage is harder to live on raising the minimum wage is dangerous, because of the same reason raising the price of gas is harmful. In addition raising the minimum wage can keep employers from hiring as many people possible putting more people out of a job.

My parents were migrant farm workers with little education. When they got married, they did everything possible to get out of the cycle of poverty. My mother eventuall got her GED and college degree and just retired as a teacher. I know it sucks to be making min. wage... but it doesn't have to be a life-style to hand down generation after generation. So many of these people can get out of the cycle if they just try.
Computing is a good way out. You can go far in computing without a college education. Bill Gates and Steve Jobs never finished college. Neither did me or my business partner in the Multimedia business we run.
Factors to think about.. I have worked for minimum in the past.. 9 years in the same job I did it because it was easy at the time. Getting out of this cycle is very hard

Where I live, the minimum wage is 11 dollars an hour if you are under the age of 18. I'm 19, and worked for 3 months on the minimum wage of 20 dollars an hour, and I can support myself for not only those 3 months, but two months in addition. I don't worry about money. I even halfway support my sister, and I pay for our education. And where do I live? In one of the worlds most expensive countries, where the price of gas is more than 13 dollars per gallon, and we don't even complain much about it.

Abolish the Fed and the IRS and you have just eliminated a great amount of the headaches Americans face. The Federal income tax doesn't pay for the services you believe they do. All it goes toward is paying the interest back on the national debt. Research the Grace Commision's declassified documents. Our money system is a "fiat" system. I commend people for getting their stories out. It does break my heart to see my own country go to pot.

Raising the minimum wage a couple of bucks an hour doesn't spell disaster for the economy, but it does have an effect. Most people seem to think that the cost comes straight out of a CEO's salary or something. The higher ups just pass the cost onto the consumer more often than not.

Do you buy more candy if they raise the price? Do you think employers are going to hire more people if you raise the minimum wage? Have news for you. The jobs get shipped overseas or eliminated. But the most insidious part is most companies will simply cut employee benefits to pay for the higher wage.

I don't know if actual studies have shown to be the most common result of a minimum wage increase, but the bottom line is that the people who run companies have a hundred ways to pay for the increase, and the last thing they're going to do is pay for it out of their own pocket. They'll look for every way to make the "little man" pay for it first, so raising the minimum wage does more harm than good. (It's virtual the same situation with corporate taxes, by the way.)

That has NEVER, EVER happened when the minimum wage was raised. It ALWAYS helps retail sales, because min. wage earners spend more, whereas the wealthy tend to save and invest. The economy boomed after the minimum was raised under Clinton.

When you raise the price of something, like gas for example, we all know that it hurts everyone, even if they don't drive because it cost more for trucks to get food from place to place and so on. Although a lower minimum wage is harder to live on raising the minimum wage is dangerous, because of the same reason raising the price of gas is harmful. In addition raising the minimum wage can keep employers from hiring as many people possible putting more people out of a job.

I too have worked min. wage jobs my entire life. It wasn't that I never tried to raise myself up, it's that circumstances always came along to knock me back down. But I have not given up trying to better my situation for myself or my kids.

How the hell is eliminating social security an answer? If anything I would eliminate the exemption for withholding on income over $90K. Maybe exempt the first $10K per year from SS withholding... But not if it meant having to cut SS benefits.

My parents were migrant farm workers with little education. When they got married, they did everything possible to get out of the cycle of poverty. My mother eventuall got her GED and college degree and just retired as a teacher. I know it sucks to be making min. wage... but it doesn't have to be a life-style to hand down generation after generation. So many of these people can get out of the cycle if they just try.
