Nice. Have to agree with Scorpio here, get yourself a good detector and check them out if they look stable. Contrary to what most people think, most of these mines in SW Oregon did not "play out". They were actually closed in 1942 due to Limitation Order 208, so the majority of the 1500+ abandoned mines in JoCo still have good reserves. I've been in a couple that still have very VISIBLE reserves. Most are stable, but they can get a little freaky if you run into things like old primer cord, etc.
Hey Kerby, If you look closely You'll see parts of a GMT in my back pack. I have been trying to get into this place for almost 3 years. As it turns out I found the place were I turned around on my last trip down there. So close last time! I bet I could learn a few things from you... Maybe I'll make it out ot Pottsville one of these days.
Yes, you definitely NEED to come out to Pottsville. We meet up every first Friday of the month around 6, have a potluck and then discuss whatever the agenda is. These meetings are open to the public and are attracting more than just miners simply because what's being discussed is so important to our rights and local economy. Believe me, once you attend one, you'll want to attend them all.
As for that mine, it looks pretty promising and it looks like nobody has really been in there for YEARS. One thing I don't see in the video though, is a dump, which if you could find it, could be pretty promising since they didn't use detectors in those days and missed a lot.
I've got a lot of the historical material on many of these old mines, so if I can ever be of help, drop me a note.
i wounder how stable they are in side, if anything it is a great place to work and exsplore. try a metal detector in one..not just a kiddy one but something high end you might find another vein in the wallnot exsposed. or at let find some gold from the tailings in the mine or out side? keep the vides comeing on this place please
