CryEngine 3 is simply a more optimized engine, a.k.a like the Unreal Engine, optimized to use as minimal amount of graphical memory as possible, making it usable on consoles, ask them yourselves.

@xamanto id tech 5 with RAGE probably looks much better on consoles than Crysis 2 because the textures are hand made, great chance it would lose on the PC against Crytek though... So ya ups and downs
(Can't make a real comparison anyway since each have different art styles, one realistic and another uses a much better borderlands style...)
@qweadsf textures being hand made is not an argument. ALL textures are hand-made. the style is certainly different but the technological advancement in terms of texture and object streaming will decide the "winner". streaming megatextures from a DVD already turns out to be a pain in the ass and I guess yeah we will have to wait and see what looks better (technologically, not artwork-wise).
On the PC crysis 2 will undoubtedly be the most awesome-looking title for years to come.
The only thing that I have noticed that is easily seen that is better about CryEngine 3 is the branches on the trees look alot more natural and less square, and that Crytek have taken up the "Really dark, sharp shadow look" that was made incredibly popular via the CCC mod for Crysis and Crysis Warhead. It looks much more realistic. But then again, we have only seen console gameplay in 720p(Probably lower) I'm sure it will look 10x better on PC when your playing.
the only concern with gaming on a pc is b/c there is alot more money going into a pc than a console. a gaming pc will cost 4x or more than a console, not many people are willing to pay that much when they can get a console for the same thing basicaly. then their is the fan base, and the games that don't want to transfer over to pc, and honestly i would rather play rpg's on the pc and shooters on console.
@captainclayman cryengine 3 is about the same as cryengine 2 running medium even though i own a ps3 and hate to admit it for example: you see that mountain in the distance and theres no trees on it cryengine2 running very-high there are trees all on that mountain and the rocket that he fired only moved what it hit on cryengine3 but cryengine2 displays a little bit of shockwave movement in the plants around it. So the PC version is infact better (cryengine 2)
XBOX360, PS3, PC, PC will gain more performance and probably a little increase of Graphics.
Cryengine 2 looks better than the Cryengine 3 in Console mode but, Cryengine is highly optimized therefor would Cryengine 2 run worse than the Cryengine3 in PC mode while Cryengine 3 will improve in graphics too ^^
@R3APERvsTYETREE I think it's unlikely... PC users will probably be able to tweak it higher eventually, but I doubt the PC version will look better by default (aside from the obvious native PC benifits like high resoloutions, AA and AF).

Yes and it is reknown that Crysis was lacking big time in gameplay, they won't rectify this with any future releases, you either have it or you don't and Crytek don't. If the graphics aren't advancing then there's no real reason for this game to be any good imo.

@merrickx I did not download from a you tube source i downloaded original source from File Planet/IGN where i pay a quarterly subscription charge. Then for whatever reason you tube wouldnt take the original format so it was converted, which lost some of the quality.
So dont assume that i copied it from anyone elses channel on you tube to obtain views.
this isnt fir next gen systems there releasing the gamr next year for ps3 and xbox 360. But i dont see how it will be playable with frames of 15 to 25 fps on consoles. Unless they tone down the graphics alot for consoles, and i mean alot.

Anyways, the development of faster computer hardware is growing exponentially, while getting cheaper and cheaper, so we're going to see a lot of computers that are capable of running the Cry Engine 3 in all it's glory much sooner than you think. And definitely more than the 0.01% that you think. (0.01% is what you meant to say btw, not 99.99%).
Still, I think that my GTX 480 will own the new Cry Engine. My motherboard will need an upgrade though, as I am currently still on an X38-chipset on my Asus Maximus Formula, and that means I will need to upgrade my CPU and RAM as well *sigh* :-s

Crysis won't work on console,it has great visuals but not very good gameplay.And because Crysis 2 iscoming to both 360 and PS3 it will be designed around 360 specs meaning visually it won't be great even by console standards.It'll be another bargain bin one off.That's the sad truth of the console version.

consoles will always be the weaker performers simply because it’s the computer industry that drives the components within a console gaming system. As such, consoles will always trail behind by at least a few years in terms of performance.

@DarkLiberatorZone no, you didn't get what i was trying to say. pc has strong COMMUNITIES, NOT COMMUNITY. the problem i find is that one game, or group of games is not connected with another. steam or xfire is the closest thing we have to a unified community, unlike xbox live, or psn where all gamers are united. if we had something like that, we would be unstoppable. it would allow the great capabilities of the pc communities to share with each other.
Batteries are,2-4 weeks is often when you need a new set and it ain't cheap especially when you add all the other payments that come with 360,online,wifi adapter (on older consoles) and repairs.
My original PS3 and Wii are both still working fine after 4 years but the 360 has had 2 repairs in a 2 month period.
@MEDzZ3RO Oh, I don't play consoles much anymore, though I have a Wii laying around. I just meant it's great for PC gaming - it's easily connected and a lot of games support it directly. And mine is not wireless, so no battery problems :)
@MEDzZ3RO You must intentionally break your 360. My first one only ever red ringed once from use, but an off/on fixed it. It eventually stopped reading discs. So did my bud's PS3. My other friend's PS3 had yellow light of death. The one who's PS3 stopped reading discs got a slim one that works. I've had my 2nd 360 as well for a few years now and not one single red ring even after excessive use or falling asleep with it on. Now PS3 has bad firmware updates and 360 has poor internet, so it's even.
A recent survey (April 2010) shows 360 fail rate is 46% when compared to PS3s 8%.Browse the internet for surveys if you don't believe me.Mine was on lazygamer(dot)net.
The "bad" firmware updates were at the beginning of the PS3s lifespan;more recently they are generally patches against hacking and homebrew apps and naturally aren't considered good because it removes there software.

@qweadsf textures being hand made is not an argument. ALL textures are hand-made. the style is certainly different but the technological advancement in terms of texture and object streaming will decide the "winner". streaming megatextures from a DVD already turns out to be a pain in the ass and I guess yeah we will have to wait and see what looks better (technologically, not artwork-wise).
On the PC crysis 2 will undoubtedly be the most awesome-looking title for years to come.

The only thing that I have noticed that is easily seen that is better about CryEngine 3 is the branches on the trees look alot more natural and less square, and that Crytek have taken up the "Really dark, sharp shadow look" that was made incredibly popular via the CCC mod for Crysis and Crysis Warhead. It looks much more realistic. But then again, we have only seen console gameplay in 720p(Probably lower) I'm sure it will look 10x better on PC when your playing.

the only concern with gaming on a pc is b/c there is alot more money going into a pc than a console. a gaming pc will cost 4x or more than a console, not many people are willing to pay that much when they can get a console for the same thing basicaly. then their is the fan base, and the games that don't want to transfer over to pc, and honestly i would rather play rpg's on the pc and shooters on console.

@captainclayman cryengine 3 is about the same as cryengine 2 running medium even though i own a ps3 and hate to admit it for example: you see that mountain in the distance and theres no trees on it cryengine2 running very-high there are trees all on that mountain and the rocket that he fired only moved what it hit on cryengine3 but cryengine2 displays a little bit of shockwave movement in the plants around it. So the PC version is infact better (cryengine 2)

there are 3 modes for Cryengine 3.
XBOX360, PS3, PC, PC will gain more performance and probably a little increase of Graphics.
Cryengine 2 looks better than the Cryengine 3 in Console mode but, Cryengine is highly optimized therefor would Cryengine 2 run worse than the Cryengine3 in PC mode while Cryengine 3 will improve in graphics too ^^

@merrickx I did not download from a you tube source i downloaded original source from File Planet/IGN where i pay a quarterly subscription charge. Then for whatever reason you tube wouldnt take the original format so it was converted, which lost some of the quality.
So dont assume that i copied it from anyone elses channel on you tube to obtain views.

this isnt fir next gen systems there releasing the gamr next year for ps3 and xbox 360. But i dont see how it will be playable with frames of 15 to 25 fps on consoles. Unless they tone down the graphics alot for consoles, and i mean alot.

Anyways, the development of faster computer hardware is growing exponentially, while getting cheaper and cheaper, so we're going to see a lot of computers that are capable of running the Cry Engine 3 in all it's glory much sooner than you think. Crysis won't work on console,it has great visuals but not very good gameplay.And because Crysis 2 iscoming to both 360 and PS3 it will be designed around 360 specs meaning visually it won't be great even by console standards.It'll be another bargain bin one off.That's the sad truth of the console version.

The way console & multi-platform games are developed work: Optimization to get it work on the XBOX360... Optimization to get it work on the PS3... Oh god, how much do you have to degrade the graphics! :/ Also, because of you console guys, we, PC users, again lost a good exclusive title... Why wasn't uncharted 2, that looks crappy, because of the spammed post processing effects, like DOF blur, enough for you? Have you looked at the recent figures??,there isn't alot in it.Also the Wii has sold almost all PS3 and 360 sales combined.
The PS3 is Sonys biggest flop but the PS1 and PS2 sold so many,they made their huge profit there.Microsoft have never had those kind of sales.
They aren't selling at a loss any more,there sale percentages are rising quicker then its 2 rivals;if they were losing money they would of never bothered with the Slim because it would be suicidal.

It's counterproductive to put out technically the same system if they were losing money,especially seeing as compared to the original the PS2 slim didn't sell brilliantly.
There figures were up this year as they were last year.All previous years however they were coming up short.
360 is made cheaper and it does show with all its cheap plastics,hardware issues and general overall quality.All Microsoft have ever cared about is the cash unlike their Japanese rivals.

@R3APERvsTYETREE a new generation of consoles always starts out more powerful than ridiculously expensive gaming pcs at that time. then pc hardware slowly takes over again in the following years. when xbox 360 came out there was barely any pc that could beat it, until in 2007 nvidia released the geforce 8 and crysis was released. no matter if the next gen comes in 2014, 15 or 16, atleast one of the two (nintendo doesnt count) will temporarily beat any <2000 dollar pc, while being sold for 500.

consoles will always be the weaker performers simply because it’s the computer industry that drives the components within a console gaming system. As such, consoles will always trail behind by at least a few years in terms of performance.

@DarkLiberatorZone no, you didn't get what i was trying to say. pc has strong COMMUNITIES, NOT COMMUNITY. the problem i find is that one game, or group of games is not connected with another. steam or xfire is the closest thing we have to a unified community, unlike xbox live, or psn where all gamers are united. if we had something like that, we would be unstoppable. it would allow the great capabilities of the pc communities to share with each other.

Batteries are,2-4 weeks is often when you need a new set and it ain't cheap especially when you add all the other payments that come with 360,online,wifi adapter (on older consoles) and repairs.
My original PS3 and Wii are both still working fine after 4 years but the 360 has had 2 repairs in a 2 month period.

@MEDzZ3RO Oh, I don't play consoles much anymore, though I have a Wii laying around. I just meant it's great for PC gaming - it's easily connected and a lot of games support it directly. And mine is not wireless, so no battery problems :)

@MEDzZ3RO You must intentionally break your 360. My first one only ever red ringed once from use, but an off/on fixed it. It eventually stopped reading discs. So did my bud's PS3. My other friend's PS3 had yellow light of death. The one who's PS3 stopped reading discs got a slim one that works. I've had my 2nd 360 as well for a few years now and not one single red ring even after excessive use or falling asleep with it on. Now PS3 has bad firmware updates and 360 has poor internet, so it's even.

Wrong on so many levels.
A recent survey (April 2010) shows 360 fail rate is 46% when compared to PS3s 8%.Browse the internet for surveys if you don't believe me.Mine was on lazygamer(dot)net.
The "bad" firmware updates were at the beginning of the PS3s lifespan;more recently they are generally patches against hacking and homebrew apps and naturally aren't considered good because it removes there software.
