They are almost the same age. Tshala was born in 1958 and Mbilia Bell in 1959. Mbilia Bel started to sing as a 17 year old in 1976 when she stepped in as back up for Abeti Masikini and later for Sam Mangwana.
Tshala Muana went to Kinshasa in 1976. She liked the voice and the music of the late MPONGO LOVE,hence in 1977 she joined the group TCHEKE TCHEKE LOVE, as a dancer. The same year she did her first song but it did not make a mark. It is in the early eighties that Tshala became a houshold name in Congolese Music. It is also the same time that Mbilia Bel made a mark in the music world.

I think pretty the same time. Tshala used to be a dancer. If I trust my memory I think in 70s she did music with King Rachid too.
