Now we should and will win in the struggle against terrorism. But it is a good thing that the War on Terror has been lost, and lost quickly. Just like the War on Drugs, the War on Terror could never be won. And pursuing both goals as wars was and is destructive, to ourselves and the world. Water boarding was not viewed as torture until later when it was ruled as such. These orders given simply state that the president authorized use of these interrogation methods, which were not illegal at the time, because the government did not recognize them as torture therefore was not violating any convention at the time the orders were given.

2. Human rights apply to everyone, and most of the people tortured had no terrorist affiliation whatsoever. Of 595 detainees in Guantanamo Bay, only "a dozen or two were involved in any combatant activity" according to our own government.

I don't see how can pull Abu Ghraib since it was done far removed by soldiers who have been punished and the actions were condemned by everyone and not ordered by the President. The Taguba Report only confirms that abuse took place, but that does not mean Bush is guilty of those crimes.

He didn't WANT the Bush administration prosecuted until AFTER the investigation of Abu Ghraib where he found out that the administration ordered human rights abuses. According to a Senate Armed Forces Committee report, the abuses were ordered directly by the administration and according to Lawrence Wilkerson, former chief of staff to Colin Powell, 108 people died as a result of those abuses.

What she said was
"if it was authorized by the President, it did not violate our obligations under the convention against torture."
Meaning, if the President authorized it, then you can assume it's been subject to the Justice Dept's clearance.

She wasn't saying that whatever bush authorized suddenly became legal she was saying he only authorized legal acts. Whether or not thats true or whether or not those acts should've been legal is a different story.

Water boarding was not viewed as torture until later when it was ruled as such. These orders given simply state that the president authorized use of these interrogation methods, which were not illegal at the time, because the government did not recognize them as torture therefore was not violating any convention at the time the orders were given.
Not that this matters to you, because it's all spin anyhow and you title this crap whatever will get people to watch.

Even though Rice will go down in disgrace with the rest of them, to be fair, she did battle Cheney and his cohorts on a number of occasions. She lost a lot, but she probably did keep some things from getting even worse.
Cheney and Rumsfeld had much more experience in this type of contest, and Bush loved the gung-ho, cowboys-to-the-rescue approach, which just isn't Rice at all.

Why would she say that if they didn't do anything illegal? Nazi soldiers said the same thing during the Nuremberg trials "just following orders".
