P.S. - Why were you wearing flip flops to walk around an unfamiliar yard? I'd be afraid of stepping on a rusty nail, not for nothing... I'd think heavy-duty shoes would be in order for roaming around old, busted up places, but maybe that's just me.  :\

I don't know about these things, but could your outhouse have been a smoke house? I've never noticed a vent on top of an outhouse before, but I suppose it's possible. Not like I'm an expert or anything. LOL
