@lexphm in real life she didn't. in real life her only brother died as an infant and charles and caroline never adopted any children. but for the show to make it more interesting they added characters and the Ingalls adopted 3 children and Mary got married and had a baby. In real life none of that happened.

When you really think about it, and how ironic it is, she and Laura were in the same situation. Neither one wanted to let their men go. I think that was cute how they did that, and how Laura and Nellie finally became friends instead of enemies. Mostly to Nellie's doing for the enemy part lol.
