I Was lucky enough to see the original cast. I then dragged 2 friends to NY to see it 3 years ago and was completely disappointed. You can check out the the difference btw. this Vid. and their 2008 performance on the tonys. I'm so sorry that Jason Raize, the original Simba committed suicide. Maybe his performance was part of why the original was so good.
I remember when I first saw this i was 23 years old, and it made me so emotional, to see such beauty. And now that im 34 It still does. Love everything about it. Hope one day I get to see it live.....
The Lion King broadway is the best broadway ever!!! no other broadway is better mama mia, grease, not even phantom of the opera can top the lion king. OMG I love the lion king my favorite movie of all time
AGH! at first i was like i want to be rafiki now i want to be a lioness. too many good things to choose just one thing you know? i have no idea if i'm making any sense. point being: I LOVELOVELOVE THIS SHOW!
Where Lebo M in this video? I love Lebo M in the movie he's the one that does that cry at the begining of "Circle of Life" he is the genius behind all of the african music used in the movie. I wish I could meet Lebo Morake aka Lebo M.
Julie Taymor, the Director, felt that there had to be a stronger female presence for the Broadway production than that in the animated film. I think she made a wise choice.
I have the book 'The Lion King, Pride Rock on Broadway' -- she states it when describing her quest to find the perfect Rafiki. Also, I do not see Lebo M on the video, maybe he is in the orchestra pit?
Yeah, totally and utterly amazing. I love this show. I'm going to see it this July in London. I'm preparing a trip from Spain to London, and this musical is a must see. lol
Great video, great cast, great musical and great song.

I HATE the voice of the lead singer in circle of life. . It's hidious! Lebo M should be singing the whole thing all alone!

There's on thing I don't understand why is Rafiki a female in the musical when in the movie Rafiki is a male?
59771006 3 years ago 2
Julie Taymor, the Director, felt that there had to be a stronger female presence for the Broadway production than that in the animated film. I think she made a wise choice.
halloween1985 3 years ago 4
I agree with you.
59771006 3 years ago
How do you know that she felt that there had to be a stronger female presence? And could tell where Lebo M is in this video.
59771006 3 years ago
I have the book 'The Lion King, Pride Rock on Broadway' -- she states it when describing her quest to find the perfect Rafiki. Also, I do not see Lebo M on the video, maybe he is in the orchestra pit?

Lebo M was in the Chorus of the Lion King musical.
