  • I think taking drugs and playing videos games all day long is much more harmful to kids than lifting weights with proper gear and supervision.

  • I think you people should just agree to disagree and just quit arguing. I've been working out for 4 years ever since I was 13 and even though that's not really young nothing has stunted my growth so yea. But it is possible as everyone keeps saying.

  • Kids shouldnt lift weights when they are that young. And yes, it does stunt growth.

  • @dkblade27 "Stunt" growth? What the heck is THAT? Stunt? Wow. He's 13 now ang huge, so I guess you can toss your "stunt growth" in the trash!

  • @coachsoop

what makes you think he wouldnt be taller had he not lifted weights? youre an idiot if you seriously believe you cant stunt your growth if you lifted at an early age. same for ALL those fitness and medical organizations. they lack serious common sense if they believe weight training, especially the BIG 3 (bench, squat, dead) would not stunt growth.

  • @dkblade27 ..you site NO medical proof of your claim. You probably heard that "wives tale" when you were a kid. The kid is fine. He's 13 and is normal height and weight. Now tell me how your brain got stunted.

  • @coachsoop

thats because no research is necessary. all you need are a pair of eyes and some common sense which apparently you dont have. i like how everybody tries to debate every kind of myth as false. hes 13 and normal height. how do you know he wont be taller had he not worked out so young? and lets say it didnt affect him at all. what makes you think ONE person applies to everybody else?

  • @coachsoop

once again, please take your bullshit outta here. kids who are very young can easily injure themselves given the fact that their bodies are not fully developed. they can easily stunt their growth. likewise, there are NO MEDICAL proof that supports your case because science cant conclude two ends of the spectrum that complicated since theres a ton of factors that are involved.

if you fail to agree, go ahead and have your 10 year olds lift very heavy like a grown man. LOLOL

  • @dkblade27 thats actually just a myth. theres no experimental proof that lifting weights at a young age stunts growth. its unknown whether its healthy or not, but it definitely doesn't stunt growth,

  • @coachsoop See thats the thing dude, I JUST told you that he could still be "huge" and that doesnt mean that he could've been bigger. I just told you that. And what medical information? Seriously? How about you just read a book, thats common knowledge if you will take the time to take the dumbbell out of the kid's ass and do something with your OWN life.

  • @dkblade27 I'm afraid you are wrong! Please know your facts before typing garbage!!!

  • @dkblade27 how the fuck does it stunt growth im 6ft2 and ive been workin out since 14 lifting weights

  • @Hiphopisntdead1

youre another moron. i guess in your example, girls are stronger than guys because i know one girl stronger than most guys. lol what a fucking retard.

  • @dkblade27 what a stupid argument lol. guess you have nothing to say so you just spout some bullshit like you probably always do. what the fuck do have girls to do with boys i dont know but i for sure know that you have Alzheimer's or some other reiatrdation disease

  • @Hiphopisntdead1

once again. my stupid argument is BASED ON YOUR stupid argument. cant comprehend? calling it stupid means calling your own stupid. now shut the fuck up retard. lololol

  • @dkblade27 what the fuck dude. check yourself for Alzheimer's again

  • @Hiphopisntdead1

lol. you uneducated stupid nigger. go back to your rap crap lololol

  • @dkblade27 there was no need to get rasict.....its ppl like u that make the WORLD look bad

  • It is only 77 pounds? i mean i never did bench at 9 but i thought i could do more than that.

  • IllllllllIlllllllllllllllll Find the Uppercase I.

  • That is fucking heavy for an 8 year old. I know 14-15 year olds who can't bench that.

  • good job rock!!!!!!!!!

  • I would just like to say THANK YOU wieghtlifting/bodybuilding need to be more main stream and the general's public on this sport is simple minded, the only way he would become deformed is if he had years of INTENSE wieght training that a normal bodybuilder would undergo, so keep your uninformed oppionions to yourselfs and let this kid do work.

  • hello. im not the type of person who is going to hate on this video or anything such as that but do you teach these kids form and why most of the kids i see most of the kids that are lifting weights here are all fat?. now i want to know how u recover the broken down muscle tissue. how much protein do u give a kid like that plus is he burning all those calories he intakes . i started way before this kid but it wasnt really weights it was more of push ups and sit ups. ever think of a sport

  • hello... i personally know rakim he went to my school last year and he's fine hes not really short but hes cool.. haha no joke i actually know him

  • weight lifting dont stunt your growth but this is crazy... 8 years old!?!?!

  • rofl, i can bench that with my cock.

  • Don't care about the haters. The kid is awesome. And strength training actually STRENGTHENS the bones, so I don't think it's a problem for kids if they're just careful about proper form and such, which this kid seems to be

  • the REASON they have age limits and requirements in the gym is so they dont drop the weight on their neck and play around..

  • It's just terrible this kid isn't sitting in a seat for 8 hours gaming, watching tv. etc.,, LOL. Be like other children...NOT!

  • I am so sorry mano, I sometimes forget sarcasm isn't always easy to pick up on in text. But I am assumeing that you don't think glueing your ass to a chair every wakeing hour is healthy.

  • I am amazed by some of the people's logic. It is unhealthy to weight train? WTF? That's why Americans in large are FAT!!! Yea it's much healthier for an 8 year old to glue his ass to a chair video game control in one hand chocolate bar in other

  • @blakesreddragon lmao do you have ANY evidence for any of the fucking several ASSUMPTIONS you just made? (if so please direct me to a link i doubt i though because lets see....THERE ISNT ANY)

  • damn I beat a 5'5" 120 lb black guy in arm wrestling and I thought I was weak.....

  • just a question, does lifting when your young create problems with growth or anything or is it just as healthy as not lifting

  • weight lifting does NOT stunt your growth!! that is a huge myth that has already been debunked.

  • hardcore weight lifting during puberty does stunt you growth because it's natural for the body to gain great height, but when a lot of muscles comes instead the body gets confused and hormon levels gets fucked up

  • just turned a month ago and my 1RM is 215

  • holy shit i'm 12 and i bench press 105...i feel bad:D:D::D:D

  • dude im 12 and i bench 165

  • nice!

  • clearly fake. spaghetti arms there couldn't lift 1/2 a lb.

  • that is really stupid!!! This kid is going to be deformed and small by the time he is an adult!

  • Thank you for your "expert" analysis, MaxHardcore. Deformed and small.....hmmm...those seem like the adjectives to describe your mental and physical state.

  • those words better describe your dick faggot

  • Really? How come you "know" this? Have you been looking at me....Obviously you vocabulary and wit are limited. Your knowledge of youth weightlifting is minimal at best. What was the purpose of throwing your negitive words on this site? Why did you want to see a 9 yr old lift? So you could tell him he or his parents aren't as "brilliant" as you? Then you make comments about my genitals? This is proof that my 1st comment toward you was correct. Leave this site and never come back.

  • @coachsoop yea this kid is gonna stunt his growth and be only 5 ft tall. i am 6'3 and pretty proud of it because i didn't lift weights untill i hit puberty.

  • some of us just have better things to do than write essays on youtube.....

  • @coachsoop Yeah dude I really hope thats not your kid, because that guy is right. Yeah "stunt" that kids growth. That means prematurely stop the growth. And it doesnt matter that the kid ended up huge. He probably would have been much taller and with longer arms if this hadn't happened to him as a kid. Example, what if Shaquille O'Neal's growth had been stunted? He would still be "huge" just not as big as what he would have been. So him being "huge" doesnt prove anything. He's not a dog btw.

  • @Nike7Man ...and what medical information do you have to support your claim? That kid is 13 now and is normal height and weight. This vid is about 5 years old. So your claim is wrong. Sorry.

  • @coachsoop hahahahh!!!

  • i lifted 190 and im 11 goin on 12,and im not on steroids but im really muscular

  • fuck the average pussy 9 yr old

  • pffft 77 pouns i like it!!

  • mr brother can bench over 35kg and hes only 8 and weighs 32.5kg

  • i agree with you dude.

My brother lifted when he was 8 yrs old...

he grew up fine, he's 6 ft...

    lol

  • props to the little beast , and to all the fools talking about stunted growth etc, true strength training is good for children causing increased bone density and favourable hormonal conditions for growth not the opposite, its highly likely your confusing bodybuilding and powerlifting which are very different in training routine rep ranges weights excercise number etc, it is thought that bodybuilding at a young age may stunt growth

  • this cannot be healthy

  • Thanks doctor, but it is absolutly healthy.

  • not bad :)

  • Anyone know how much weight that is?

  • Yes! that is 77.2lbs. He did this lift June '07 when he was 8.

  • wtf is wrong with you? He is 8??? His back is gonna be fucked in a few years...

  • yeah rednech23 cause he's gonna mess up his back benching with perfect form hah yeah right. Thats an excuse pussy kids give to stay skinny

  • Ummmm...... Your muscle, bones and rest of your body don't stop developing until you're 20 or so. He's 8 which means if keeps lifting weights he's gonna do some damage in a few years. There is a reason for the age limits at the gym.

  • Rednech, he is in great health. He's 10 now and can bench press 150lbs. I'll post the vid. No he has no health problems. Thanks for your concern.

  • I just wanted to post a comment to you about the lifting too young thing...

uhhh, I dont know where some of these people come from but I grew up on a farm and have been lifting things since I could walk.

    Age does not matter!!!

  • Age does not matter?

    Good one

  • theres no research to show theres any harm in this,in fact it shows the opposite.Age limits in gyms are there because kids will mess around when unsupervised and adults dont want kids there when there trying work out.

  • That used to be heavy for me when I was 10 lol. There is no way I could've done that when I was 8

  • too young .

is not good for the body

  • u cant b shit if u think that way, you gota take risks, what this kids doin is buildin a hella strong base to work off of when he is older, and its provn that strength trainin in the form of lifting weights is beneficial for bone strengf etc. its healthy under PROPER SUPERVISION, and i think the dozens of coachs & parents in the background have had enuf xperience & know-how for this child, i think that th dozens in the back who are qualified strength coaches would be considerd 'propr supavision'

  • wow that was impressive did it all by himself way to go hes a little monster

  • wow that she be child abuse. thats almost as bad as those parents who have 5 yr olds who weigh 200 lbs on Maury. 12 or 13 is a good time to start lifting and even thats kinda young

  • good stuff for his age, is he 8 or 9? and whats his height and weight?

  • i dont think bench pressing stumps hieght growth

  • Brilliant. Pre-pubescent children doing competitive weight lifting. I think the only thing I have faith in anymore is Charles Darwin.

  • LOL bench shirt for like 60 pounds LOLLOLLOL

  • Excuse me vevicx01, that isn't a bench shirt. It's a singlet. All powerlifters must wear one to compete.

  • haha teh balck guy none greet him!

  • You don't let a 8 or 9 year old child train with weights you will stunt his growth! Bad parents! How sad...

  • these kids havent even succombed the embryonic stages of puberty and they're lifting weights? rediculous in my opinion.

  • It is good for a youngster to lift weights. I take that you haven't read the findings in the New England Journal of Medicine or the Mayo Clinic. It is ridiculous to make such off the cuff comments without research. That is my opinion.

  • lol i think i could do more than that at age 9 but idk...ddnt bench back then but could do 70 perfect form push ups..just estimateing...im 15 now, 150 but can only do 205 sadly...but in 3 months ill hit 225-240 for sure

  • Seem s like you have good lifts to me. Keep hittin the weight WUTANG!

  • its not good i think because if you train too much qhen your young like that, you wont be so tall when youll be an adult

  • Lifting weights will not affect your height. That has been in folklore for so many years. Let's finally put an end to it.

  • then why are all those Olympic weight lifters around 5ft tall?

  • Because a 7ft tall lifter would weigh much more.

If u are 5ft u will "save" bodyweight, and can lift "more" in relation to your own weight. Thus a 5ft tall lifter that is 185lbs could have more muscle compared to a 7ft tall weighing the same.

  • how much was the weight?

  • skiracer, it was 77.2lbs. he was 8yrs old at the time.

  • Isn't it bad for kids to lift heavy weight? Dogs aren't suppose to run until they're atleast a year old. Doesn't this effect kids?

  • Thanks for the comment. As has been stated on this page before, it is very healthy for young kids to weight train. It builds strong muscle fibers, bone density and muscle density which can prevent injury in other sports. It also builds stabilizer muscles. The old "stunt growth" myth was exposed some 25yrs ago.

  • my little couzin who happens to be 7 can bench 115 lbs. so he's up there haha

  • wow everybody who disses this video needs to get their ego out of their A**. Ive seen this kid in action he makes the ROCK look like PEE WEE HERMAN. Dont hate because this kid is more of an athlete at age 9 then you will be your whole life.

  • hey coachsoop, you dont know what your talkin about

idiot my cousin did 160 today with no help so dont be talkin about RAKIM kid is weak and wont grow at all

o and i did 200 with no trouble so shut up

  • fuck that my 5th grade cousin benches 155

  • how much did he bench?

  • Thanks for asking! He benched 77.2lbs. This was June of '07. He is bench pressing 109lbs now. He's a 9yr old.

  • My brother is 6,5 years and pushes 15kg and doesn't train, I will start training him next year and we will see how much will he press!

  • Yes you should be careful with kids but it's healthy if done right. I started lifting at 11 and I am fine.

  • You are correct! As I have stated in prior postings, weight training creates bone density, develops stabilizer muscles, coordination, and they are less likely to get injured in other sports.

  • I can't believe the size of his calves and they look like they are just solid muscle. You could see that when he finished in the deadlift. Really awesome.

  • Lifting before the age of thirteen to fourteen isn't good for a kid's growth plates. But still pretty cool to see a nine year old do that.

  • that theory was disproved about 15 years ago. Jumping actually puts about the equivalent of 700lb on the growth plates, so if that kids managing a 700lb squat, so be it!

  • he gonna fuck up his back

  • That is amazing but this kid needs to be very careful. I stopped growing in the 8th grade because squats screwed up my growth plates. Really impressive though. Thats awesome that he's not a typical kid nowdays and sits at home with a pizza playin video games.

  • Squats don't screw up your growth plates...dumbass comments like that make people afraid to do compound exercises that they should do.

  • I have my bachelors in SES you dumb shit mother fucker. I think I'd know what squats can do to your back. Get an education before you speak up to someone that does, jackass.

  • what research papers have you been reading?

  • Research papers?? Dude, its been posted in books for years.

  • Whats wrong with saying there are weapons of mass destruction? nothing, it's just wrong.

  • look at that cute little powerlifter!....lol but thats pretty amazing anyway.

  • wow. 9 years olds and benching? damn, thats really unhealthy especially for his puberty.

  • Unhealthy is not exercising, not eating right and not being involved in a sports program. He does all of the above and he is an honor student. Thanks for the posting.

  • i have seen 3 year old taller i would never let my kid weight lift just my opion so dont spaz

  • Thanks for the posting. I failed to see the relavance of your statement, however. You've seen 3yr old taller. What are you implying? You would never let your kid lift weights? Ok.......

  • no, he is saying he wouldnt let his kid start lifting so early man. In my opinion i agree

  • he realy needs a bench press shirt!

  • It good to weight train at an early age. Their is a superstition that they will be short. The only time weight training is bad at a young age is when you have the child lift heavy weight. this messes up the growth plates and stops them from growing normally.

  • wow like any nine year old in the world cant pick 20 pounds.

  • Thanks for the comment. It was 77lbs in competition. He now has a 100lb bench press, 175lb squat and 165lb deadlift.

  • He squats more than he deadlifts?

  • Thanks for the posting. He deadlifts 175lbs as of today! He beat his personal best. I'll post more vids of his competition lifts.

  • isn't he short for his age? wonder why...

  • He's 8 yrs old. According to medical journals and his doctor, he is in the top 68% in his height. Please read the latest findings from Harvard Medical Studies New England health, and Cleveland Clinics. None of what you're implying is founded. Weight training at his age does not affect his growth. Most people never researched the subject, but still resort to urban myth regarding this subject. Thank you for the concern. I started lifting ealy and I am 6ft just like my dad.

  • hmm...I've been lifting ever since modified track in 7th grade...now I'm a senior in high school and I'm 6'7" tall

  • yeah, and you could have been 7 feet!

  • lmfao....then thank god that I stunted myself dude...being 6'7" sux....I already can't go on any of the roller coasters at six flags....nevermind when I try to get into a car....and the desks at school....forget it....lol

  • I think as long as its done carefully with proper supervision then why not? can think of far worse sports to damage a childs health, just look at the injuries they pick up at football (soccer to u guys) to name but one . i would like to see research done on the effects of resistance training on younger children as my son keeps nagging me to help him train like his dad !

  • ..... wtf shouldnt he be playing with his toys or something poor kido he isnt living a normal kids life :[

  • are his parents aware of how damaging to his muscular and skeletal development .making a 8-9 year old max out on weights is????

  • His doctor says he is in great shape and is better than normal height for his age. Thanks for the concern.

  • how much did he do ?

  • He got 77lbs on this lift. He broke his own record in Dec '07 with 82.7lbs bench, 112.6lb squat and 141lb deadlift. Thanks for asking.

  • WTF? I think a bench press comp for kiddies is a bit weird.

  • These are athletes like any other sport. What's your take on kids that wrestle?

  • I have no problem with kids that wrestle, its just that I think kids should only start weight training at about 14 years of age. If this competition was just a one-off test to see who was strongest then that's fine. However if these kids are regularly training with weights I don't think that's right.

  • Fact about kids who weight train: They have less injuries, more coordination, better conditioning, faster reflex muscles, develop stabilizer muscles add bone density and stronger tendon development. This is according to New England Medical Journal.

  • Carnut, for years people thought as you seem to, that weight trainning for kids was not good. However, in the past 25 years, science has debunked those "wives tales."

  • It aint freakin healthy to weighttrain when youre a kid. Your body needs the energy you consume to grow not to build muscle. The end result will be abrubted growth.

  • Galoredk. Building muscle at ANY time in your life is a benefit to your health. I will forward some info to you on this subject.

  • 455 lbs , maybe 45 kg's lol nice to see ll kids into powerlifting,

  • Coach soop I don't know where you are getting your info from and you sound slightly biased as someone personally involved in this childrens sport. I have not seen any positive data or research indicating children SHOULD be weightlifting. Thats nonsense.

  • Hello Nike. I sent an e-mail to you containing the information. Thanks again for your posting.

  • put on youtube the attempt of 100lbs in Dec i want to see that

  • Thanks. We will!

  • I posted Rakims' World Record deadlift from Dec 1st in Las Vegas. He also broke the squat and bench press records. I will post those soon. Thanks for your interest.

  • well, ive been working for 2 months, and all i got till was 167lb 1RM, for 8 and 9 yr olds, this is amazing, but, they should be careful, becuase the pressure might compress their rib cages

  • im all into lifting weights and all....but at that young of an age thats bad for the kid

  • Actualy it's quite the opposite. Weight lifting is great at any age! It builds strong bones, muscle density, stabilizer muscles, coordination and strength!

  • i did 60 lbs 4 reps when i was 12 xD ( now im 13 and 4months.. ), now i lift like 120... I started weightlifting =D.

  • a 9 year old child should not be lifting those weights.

  • I agree. Rock will be going for a record 100lb. bench press, 135lb squat, and 150lb deadlift Dec 1st. at the AAU Nationals.

  • You need to worry about stunting their growth...their young skeletons might not be able to take the pressure, only reason why I started lifting weights when I was 11-12... now im 17 benching 455 lbs

  • A persons "growth" is not affect by weight trainning. That myth was exposed decades ago. Please read the reports by Mayo Clinic. 455lb. bench is great! Is that in competition? If so, is it on You Tube?

  • Injury to growth plates do not occur with weight training. Congratulations on your 455lb bench press. Was that in competition? If so, is it on You Tube?

  • Wow I couldn't do that weight till I was 11... nicly done.

  • dammmmmmm 60 lbs kida hugge

  • Poor "Little Hercules" doped up on steroids... I feel bad for that kid. I thought "Little Hercules" was a bodybuilder and a martial artist?? He did bench pressing contests with rules and regulations?? hmmm... Where did you find this record? According to this video, this kid broke a world record from the AAU. Have you heard of them?

  • Those lifts sound very impressive, although in my research of the now 15yr old Sandrak, none of those lifts were substatiated. He did have an awesome physique.

  • THats amazing! great to see such young ones in the sport these days. We have a 14 year old in our club and he is doing very well. Good on him!

  • Yes it is good to see kids getting involved in exercise! Rock likes the sport so we'll keep supporting this endevor. Thanks!

  • That's 55 pounds right? My god that's alot of weight for an 8 year old.

  • Close! It was 77lbs. He will attempt 100lbs in Dec. at the AAU Championships in Las Vegas. He enjoys the sport. thanks for the positive posting!

  • Good job, Rock!
