Since all your comments are saying that everybody is pretty much little boys craving for attentions i'll say this. I'm a song writer/solo artist who writes modal songs and dare I say I do like shred a lot. Just hought i'd speak for everybody else you instantly deem a little boy craving attention is that your arpeggios weren't even in the same key, your soloing didn't follow changes or anything. If you're going to make a video demoing something at least follow the chord changes.
Thanks bunhole!!! Did you want me to go check out your channel or something? I don't do that anymore. I never see anyone that actually plays the guitar ~ just usually some internet facade trying to get attention. Now, if you REALLY play, you have to realize I was concentrating on the Sustainer. My arpeggios and articulation suck bad. I purposely played "outside" the scale structures (modes) ~ if you wanna see BAD check out my "annoying guitar" vid. Have fun leaving comments ~ Peace Beavis.
@TKG1201 I AM WONDERING THE SAME THING.... i dont wanna get rid of my neck EVO pup...but i guess u have to for a sustainer...? id like a white fernandes for the JEM specifically...also 123jozef...question..do u know the output on that fernandes sustainer? i know the EVOs are 404 db
Carthsgtr - If you are looking for attention or "extra views" I'm sure you can find another way to do it. You are probably ANOTHER little boy - and I am fairly sure that you have a long way to go before you will be in the same league that I am (as far as guitar playing is concerned)- now, on the matter of "infantilism" and possibly diapers, you surely have me beat. This is not a tutorial on arpeggios. Go home and take your rubber duckies with you. Mmmmkay pumpkin?
Does the sustainer work with natural harmonics too? Like for example the squealing harmonic played for example by Dimebag Darrell at the end of Cemetery Gates by Pantera.
btw, im getting the 401 model put into my ibanez RG350MYE, what did you do about the gap next to the sustainer ? did you put in another single pickup ? or are you using the 101 model ?
takes some balls to drill holes in that expensive of a guitar, i probly would have put them on the pickguard so if i wanted to take it out id just get a new pickguard
Great playing headless man. But your amp sounds a bit bland. Did you spend all your dough on your Jem? lol. Steve should have put a white sustainer in that guitar to begin with.
Hey Fluffy! Eye opener here? We all know that my arpeggios suck. It's not rocket science. What about the notes that I resolve that are totally out of key? Don't those suck too? You think I'm gonna sit down and practice arpeggios or something? I could care less. I just came off the road and started jamming. No warm up. Guitar playing is just one of many different interests in this f'ed up world. Who cares? I live spontaneously, just like I play. Deal with it bud. Cool?
@123jozef I liked your jam! We all drop notes, hit sloppy spots ect... You just keep powering through it like you are here. I love the people who are always negative towards people like you and I. Funny thing, I don't think any of them ever have the balls to post their own video
With a compressed, overdriven tone, sustainers don't change the sound all that much. To hear another good use for a sustainer, set your axe up super-clean, with no compression, like for a clicky James Brown-type rhythm: When you do the left-hand muting that comes naturally with this type of rhythm, it's as if there's no sustainer on, but when you leave a finger down, BAM!, you go from no sustain to infinite sustain, from a crisp rhythm tone to a flowing lead tone without changing a thing.
since I see you've got the 101 kit, is it true you can only use both the harmonic and infinite sustain at the same time on the 401? thanks, great playing
Good question! I believe the tune (if I remember correctly) was in the key of B minor... so, I suppose I played in nearly every mode of that scale. I may have spent a little more time in some modes than others, but basically you are hearing B minor, D major, probably quite a bit of the Lydian... and then of course, the ad-lib hybrid chromatic, "outside" and wanna be arpeggios... ha ha. Very sloppy playing, but at least the Sustainer gets used in a more 'musical' setting.
i got a question. i wanna swap pickups out of my rg350mdx and i wanna put emgs in there. well my p-up setup is HSH and i have a 5 switch selector and emgs arent split coiled. are they? well yeah i heard that you had to get split coiled emgs or something idk but could you maybe help? would they emg's sound and function the same with a 5 switch selector? idk shit about setups and selectors. help me out pleasE?
Yes the black is usualy the fsk 101 it doesnt haver the mixed mode ( harmonic and sustain) Vai use the fsk401 with this mixed mode. But it's a single coil and the fsk101 have the black humbucker
Call your local music store for references or just Google "Luthiers" in your area. Ive had a Sustainer installed in my guitar also. I just cant play that good to make videos
I hired a Certified Luthier to deal with all the wiring and routing. You have to route out an area for the module. You also have to route out an area for the 9V battery, but what he did was used the input jack (on the Jem it comes in from the side of the guitar) The battery fit nicely into the original jack area. All he had to do was add an input jack then to the back of the guitar, but he did it without digging any new holes. I would never attempt to install a Fernandes Sustainer by myself.
The neck pickup is the Fernandes pickup. When the sustainer is off it functions as a regular pickup. When the sustainer is on, you have no front pickup. I gues that why all the switch flipping between sustainer, pickup, and the octave division switch. If you really like the front pickup you have to remember to flip the sustaner off. its a pain in the azz. i think he forgets even tho hes ALWAYS checkin. Very spontaneious liquid sounds I like the rake pick stuff
Guitarists such as yourself make me want to quit playing guitar. Such focus and knowledge being displayed here again. 5:47 blows me away.. very sweet. thank you master. I'll go and tuck my tail in about now and hit the bacardi.....

This is terrible. Next time you are practicing your arpeggios, concentrate on not sucking the metaphorical penis so hard.
