I've clearly no taste whatsoever, because I absolutely love this ad! Ta so much for posting this, it's such a nice little piece of nostalgia, I remember it well but would never have dreamed it would turn up here!
i remember a few grace bros stores in sydney had food halls within their stores but they all disappeared I think Myer in Melbourne is the only one with a food hall these days
I remember that too. Staff would occasionally ask "young" Mr Grace about his older brother "old" Mr Grace, to which "young" Mr Grace would say, "He doesn't get out much these days." (assuming the older brother, which was never seen anyway, was probably 100+)
10 minutes from home... thanks to Myer NSW. This represents Grace Bros at it's peak, just before Myer bought them out, to effectively double the size of the Melbourne-based chain.
Therefore rebranding could not happen straight away, and it took twenty years for Myer to think of rebranding under the Myer name. Woolies had this same issue with Safeway in Victoria.
I wonder what happened to the "Food City" stores? I guess they ended up the way of Foodchain, DJ's idea of a standalone foodhall.
Good ol GB's!!!

OMG, there really is a grace brothers! I thought it was a fictional store from that TV show "Are You Being served?"
One of the Grace brothers on that show was called Young Mr. Grace, (even though the guy was in his 80s.)
