Yes it is, they don't call it the Dark Ages for nothing. Roman Empire adopted in Christianity in AD313. The West fell not long afterwards, the Islamic world was more advanced than the Western in the middle ages. The West only went above and beyond the rest of the world around the Age of Discovery, and the church often persecuted the forward thinkers.
1) Rome collapsed, but Byzantine Empire kept thriving until Muslim conquests.
2) Before Christianity/Islam The Middle East was the birthplace of civilization and culturally, one of the most prosperous areas on Earth. Northwestern Europe was Forest. We know where that went from there.
3) During Middle Ages The Church was probably the only western institution that integrated nations, also preserving and spreading ancient output.
I don't see what any of that has got to do with the Dark Ages and the general stagnation of the Western World. The Byzantine Empire was in decline over hundreds of years, it certainly wasn't thriving up until its conquest.
"Stagnation" implies that the previous development was faster. But then, what was the cultural output of Northwestern Europe before the medieval times? Of course, Islamic world was more advanced at certain point, after all they captured the most important cultural centers of Hellenic world. Don't forget that the Byzantine Empire continued the ancient cultural legacy until the Muslim conquests, which seem to be the major trigger for its fall.

The rediscovery and translation of Greek scientific and philosophic texts drove the Renaissance and Europe out of the Dark Ages which were dominated by Christian dogma, particularly that of the Catholic Church. Actually it's probably not that simple:
1) Rome collapsed, but Byzantine Empire kept thriving until Muslim conquests.
2) Before Christianity/Islam The Middle East was the birthplace of civilization and culturally, one of the most prosperous areas on Earth. Northwestern Europe was Forest. We know where that went from there.
3) During Middle Ages The Church was probably the only western institution that integrated nations, also preserving and spreading ancient output.

"Stagnation" implies that the previous development was faster. But then, what was the cultural output of Northwestern Europe before the medieval times? Of course, Islamic world was more advanced at certain point, after all they captured the most important cultural centers of Hellenic world. Don't forget that the Byzantine Empire continued the ancient cultural legacy until the Muslim conquests, which seem to be the major trigger for its fall.

Tribal warfare which led to enslavement of weaker tribes, and then the sale of those already enslaved individuals to Europeans for foreign goods is what led to the 200 years of black oppression in the US. Slavery was very common in Africa. So common, that it wasn't even questioned by tradesmen.

The rediscovery and translation of Greek scientific and philosophic texts drove the Renaissance and Europe out of the Dark Ages which were dominated by Christian dogma, particularly that of the Catholic Church. It's not as Christian doctrines helped except as it became less the societal dominant force and more complimentary.
