@Epica124 ah and finally i want to say that saying female fronted metal band = female fronted metal band is absolutely rubish: arch enemy, doro, in this moment, guano apes, nightwish, wt, exilia... all female fronted metal bands and all sounding so different.
melo death metal is what it is. if they incorporate growls like that then even if its a strong power metal sound its still melodic death metal but id argue its both. the fuck! who cares its just badass music
when I said "I don't honestly know" I really meant -> I don't give a flying fuck of Amaranthe's category.. and don't want any opinions on people because those differ by a person..
@SuperLumipallo I agree, was just pointing out that it is partly what you claimed it was not, allow me to recommend the band dreamtale (power metal) as way of apology!
@SuperLumipallo It's power metal. They are doing what most power metal bands with a female singer do but they add in a techno sound instead of a symphonic sound.
@xXMetalxLoveXx Epica uses death growls. After Forever used death growls. Trail of Tears uses harsh vocals. So did Theatre of Tragedy and guess what not one of them is Melodic death metal.
@Epica124 but amon amarth, children of bodom, in flames, cadacross, and wintersun are melodic death metal and they use the same harsh/death growls, as does this. its a mix of melo death and metalcore influences.
@xXMetalxLoveXx That's nice. But this is not like those bands nor is it metalcore. This is is in the same realm as Epica, Visions of Atlantis, Within Temptation, UnSun, and Delain. They are using female lead and a male growls just like Epica, They are using female lead and clean male just like Visions of Atlantis. Then you have bands that have used all three Trail of Tears, Sirenia, and Tristania.
@xXMetalxLoveXx They are doing ever thing ever past female fronted metal band has done. How you can not see that is shocking to me. metalcore influences don't make me laugh. Try influences from Nightwish, Edenbridge, and a ton of other other power metal bands. Melodic Death metal. Don't make me laugh. That would make Elis Melo Death. Damn look into female fronted metal more.
@Epica124 female fronted metal doesnt matter you really dont want to get into an arguement with me about metal cause i will win hands down. i know power metal my favorite band is the best powermetal band in the world, stratovarius and thats not an opinion. listen to the singing styles from the female vocalist. Its a metalcore influence. the death growls is a death metal influence and the guitar style is powermetal/melo death. anyone who knows a lick about metal could easily tell
@xXMetalxLoveXx OH good god it is not metalcore influence it's they same style that is found in bands such as UnSun, Within Temptation, and Delain. Take her out of this band and place her in any one of those bands and you would not be able to tell that difference. It's female fronted Power Metal that use techno instead of symphonic. They are a carbon of Visions of Atlantis, Lacuna Coil, Tristania, Theatre of Tragedy, Within Temptation, etc.
@xXMetalxLoveXx They are such a carbon copy that it's not even funny. They are doing ever thing that the bands I listed did. They are not using one damn thing from metalcore or melo death. they are using ever thing that Visions of Atlantis, Lacuna Coil, Tristania, Theatre of Tragedy, Within Temptation, Delain, Nightwish, etc have done and used.
@xXMetalxLoveXx And I don't really care if you like Stratovarius or not. When a band is a carbon copy of ever other female fronted metal band and the only reason they stand out is because they use a Techno sound you can not mask or hide it with they are us metalcore and melo death sounds. They are not unless you want to gloss over the time Theatre of Tragedy put out any Electropop album.
@xXMetalxLoveXx IF you also want to gloss over the fact that Lacuna Coil and Visions of Atlantis us a male and female sing go for it. If you want to gloss over the fact that Elis, Epica, After Forever, Tristania, Theatre of Tragedy, Sirenia and Trail of Tears have all used and still use a male growl and female singer go for it. If you also want to gloss over the fact that UnSun is just like this band go for it. Me I'm done here.
@Epica124 i dont know what your trying to achieve but im not talking about a female singer your going ballistic about a female singer and naming shity bands. i just said one thing you said the other. i really dont give a shit if the singer is a girl and the growler is a guy. I know what metal is, the sound and all the sub-genres and i know a certain sound especially metal, when i hear it.
@xXMetalxLoveXx Which is way you keep calling this melo death and metalcore when that's not what it is. Yeah you really know what metal music. You really really think harsh vocals = a band being melo death and metalcore. Wow just WOW. So I guess that Makes Ram-Zet melo death because they use harsh male vocals. Really dude you don't know anything about the metal genre. If you did then you would know harsh vocals don't = a band being melo death.
@xXMetalxLoveXx Hell harsh vocals don't = anything being melo death, death metal, metalcore or whatever. Black metal uses harsh vocals. Post-hardcore uses harsh vocals. hardcore uses harsh vocals. There are tons of metal genres and hardcore punk genres that use harsh vocals.
@Epica124 i think @xXMetalxLoveXx has a point here, they're very much inspired by götheborgian melo-death bands, especially "Call out my Name" has a very In Flameske verse, and you must admit that riffs, keyboards and harsh vocals sound like a mix of Dark Tranquillity and some ordinary swedish (they sound swedish thoroughly) metalcore bands, like sonic syndicate. they have also a very poppy powermetal approach, especially in their choruses. but to compare them with gothic metal, no...
@Epica124 you're a bit intent on the whole femalefronted thing, the poppy powermetal approach keep them nearby the power/symphonic metal bands you wrote Visions of A., Sirenia or even Elis. Epica is also a symph metal band but they're missing that poppy thing and Theatre of T., Tristania or Trail of T. have very less similarities, except of the combination of high pitched female singer and harch vocalist. these bands are nearly oldschool goth metal, in the tradition of paradise lost and tiamat
@TheCOFofficial Because that's what this band is doing. They are using ever element those band came up with. You can deined it all you want but it's right there. The cheesy use of the keyboards. The clean male vocals and female vocals. The cheesy guitar solos. They are a femalefronted metal band in the same vain as ever other female fronted metal band.
@TheCOFofficial Did you ever even listen to Visions of A.? How about Delain? UnSun? Within Temptiton? How about Amberian Dawn? Then take a look again at UnSun. The whole reason I enjoy this is you take any one of these songs and take out the harsh vocals I could swear it sounds like UnSun.
@Epica124 :D nearly every band uses elements which a other band allready uses, but what makes bands different is how they combine the elements, and amaranthe combines them in a completely different way then the bands you're refering to, they absolutely don't sound the same, when you're so insisting i will give you an analysis of this track: 0:06 - 0:26 this is absolutely an metalcore intro, sounds pretty much like sonic syndicate,
@xXMetalxLoveXx They band has got ever one hook line and sinker and they are to blind to see it is fallowing the same path that ever other female fronted metal bands has.
It´s a very easy mix of heavy- and speed-metal. It´s just the Vocals that make you think of pop (female) and melodic-death (male)... the girls outfit and attitude add to that. I think they´re good. Nothing more, nothing less, but surely nothing new.
Who the fuck cares? Metal is empowering, it makes you feel like you rule the world at times and it also contains deep implied meaning. Metal is awesome!!
just because it has some pop-like elements to it doesn't mean it should be called as such. In my opinion this band embodies that which I find most beautiful: hard and brutal elements like heavy distortion, screamers, etc. with soft and graceful elements like female vocalist with an amazing voice.... they are a living breathing juxtaposition. and for that reason, beautiful
I don´t like how you can hear in flames in every new swedish metal band. Also metalcore influences have spread too far. I don´t think Amaranthe is a bad band but this seems so seen already.
@rcreek1 Lets be honest here. This band is what Vision of Atlantis would be if they added in a 3rd singer and were techno and not symphonic. What we have here is VoA Version 2. Why people compare them to Deadlock, Dead by April, Blood Staind Child, and Sonic Syndicate I will never know. This is VoA version 2.
Wow, I pre-ordered the new Evanescence album and this album was featured...read through the comments and decided to have a listen. Fuck ME that was amazing! Already gone and ordered the album. What amazing voices, and the three work so well together!!!
@Zodiac13SFPD0 Well, arguably you could deem Skyfire to have significant (progressive) Power Metal connection, although that is not cheesy at all. I have very little to argue about genres, though.
@WolfieboyMachi This is technically not real Power Metal but I said "with connection to Power Metal" and this is Power/Death Metal. The female singer is the Power Metal part, if you hadn't figured that out already. Many people I know also asked if this was Dragonforce when they first heard it, so...
@WolfieboyMachi I only said this was connected to Power metal. To prove this, I have here a quote from Wikipedia: Amaranthe is a Swedish/Danish POWER METAL/melodic death metal band
@WolfieboyMachi Ok, then check the top comment on this video. Or google the band. If you even then don't think this has anything to do with power metal then that's your personal opinion and not fact
@Zodiac13SFPD0 Don't bother with that idiot, he never gives up, we had the same fight for hours, personally i hear a lot of power metal influences (enough to call it power metal), the genre doesn't have as straight definitions as most other genres, but that has never occurred to him.
@WolfieboyMachi Yes, blind guardian is a power metal band, and they don't sound like this, but neither sabaton, hammerfall, dungeon, lord or dragonforce, all those are powermetal bands even thou they are so different, even the rainbow song "kill the king" can be considerd power metal. And btw, nightwish is a symphonic metal band. And on a side not, you said in an earlier post that "the majority of people are ignorant", but when it comes to definition it's the majority's decision
The majority of people are unaware of what genre bands like Emmure, Asking Alexandria, Attack Attack etc. are. They think they are Metal bands, because they think all heavy music is Metal, when in actuality, they are Hardcore bands, which is an entirely seperate genre besides Metal.
The fact that most people think they are Metal bands, doesn't make them Metal bands. They're still Hardcore bands.
@WolfieboyMachi well, at that point i agree, my friend even count bands like mötorhead and nickleback as metal bands, but most people who watch this are metalheads, they know the difference
Well to be quite frank, Mötorhead ARE a Metal band, if an old school one.
Nickelback however is not.
And I didn't say that most people here didn't know, I was just using that as an example to illustrate that the majority doesn't decide what something is. It's the music that decides with what elements it uses, and to which degree.
Like with the new Dimmu Borgir album. People can market it as Black Metal as much as they want, but that doesn't mean it actually IS Black Metal.
@WolfieboyMachi Dude, let's not have this discussion AGAIN, it's under... well i don't really know about you, you don't seem to have a life, but i consider it under my dignity to debate this subject again, and even Peter Iwers, one of the founders of melodic death metal consider these to be a power/melodic death metal band, so i know i'm right, at least about the melodic death metal, so what's the point of convincing you?
@WolfieboyMachi If you are so aware of the boundaries of Power metal you would know that symphonic metal is nothing more then any off shot of power metal and that this band instead of adding the symphonic side added in a Techno sound and are nothing by a copy of Visions of Atlantis. Which plays symphonic power metal. It really does not matter what you think any ways.
@WolfieboyMachi I wouldn't label it as power metal, but you can't deny the power metal influences here. I mean, a majority of the song may not have it, but the choruses are all soaring vocal melodies that strongly characterize power metal (plus, they have Olof). And for me, the fact that this undeniably catchy band throws in power metal influences is enough for me to give them credit. No everyday mainstream band would ever even know what power metal is.
Oh, Power Metal does indeed have flowing, soaring choruses.
But do you know what other genre also has that? Pop Music.
And while this song does indeed have its Power Metal influences, take a listen to songs like "1 000 000 Lightyears", "Automatic", "Call Out My Name" etc. you'll hear that most of the melodic parts are more pop than power metal.
If there is any constant Power Metal element in this band, it would be the male singer. But that is pretty much it.
It´s very simple dude, when you were listen metal for all your life, you learn to know the sub-genres naturally. The knowledge in the metal world is the best backup.
My secret hope is that there will be more bands of this kind in the future and that music like this will take over the number 1 spot in the charts pop songs now hold. That music like this will really establish a sort of pop-metal as a genre of music which will sort of become the new pop. Maybe it will never happen, but one can dream.
Where did you see that this is called power-melodic-death-metal? Some idiot calls this pop-metal, and i'm trying to tell him that it's called power-melodic-death-metal since it says so on wikipedia, the newspapers and on the radio, but instead of accepting that he was wrong he prefers insulting me, so i'm searching for more material to back up my arguments, thx
Wannabe ss aftermath D: begining to like this band alot.cus iam a hardcore ss fan. :D only heard hungar or hangar whatever xD and this one. Any song suggestion would be appreciated.
Heard these guys as support to a Kamelot concert the other day where they sung this song and i fell in love with them! also just bought their album! :D

just because it has some pop-like elements to it doesn't mean it should be called as such. In my opinion this band embodies that which I find most beautiful: hard and brutal elements like heavy distortion, screamers, etc. with soft and graceful elements like female vocalist with an amazing voice.... they are a living breathing juxtaposition. and for that reason, beautiful
M3ta1Head1 4 months ago
I don´t like how you can hear in flames in every new swedish metal band. Also metalcore influences have spread too far. I don´t think Amaranthe is a bad band but this seems so seen already.

@rcreek1 Lets be honest here. This band is what Vision of Atlantis would be if they added in a 3rd singer and were techno and not symphonic. What we have here is VoA Version 2. Why people compare them to Deadlock, Dead by April, Blood Staind Child, and Sonic Syndicate I will never know. This is VoA version 2.

@rcreek1 The band is closer in style to a band such as Unsun and Delain.

Zodiac13SFPD0 8 months ago
@Zodiac13SFPD0 Well, arguably you could deem Skyfire to have significant (progressive) Power Metal connection, although that is not cheesy at all. I have very little to argue about genres, though.
Jingjangkekeke 8 months ago
@Zodiac13SFPD0
This isn't much Power Metal, though...
WolfieboyMachi 5 months ago
@WolfieboyMachi You don't listen to a lot of power metal, do you?
Zodiac13SFPD0 5 months ago
@Zodiac13SFPD0
I do. And it doesn't sound like this.
A couple of the most mainstream, on the fence bands like Nightwish may sound somewhat similar, but they're barely qualified as Power Metal as it is.
While actual Power Metal bands like Blind Guardian, Celesty, Persuader, Saint Deamon and even Dragonforce sounds nothing like this.
WolfieboyMachi 5 months ago
@WolfieboyMachi This is technically not real Power Metal but I said "with connection to Power Metal" and this is Power/Death Metal. The female singer is the Power Metal part, if you hadn't figured that out already. Many people I know also asked if this was Dragonforce when they first heard it, so...

@Zodiac13SFPD0
And if some people thought they were listening to Dragonforce when they heard this, they haven't listened much to Dragonforce.
Because Dragoforce doesn't sound anything like this.
WolfieboyMachi 5 months ago
@WolfieboyMachi I know, but they still did
Zodiac13SFPD0 5 months ago
@Zodiac13SFPD0
I have a hard time seeing where you're hoping to get with that argument.
That's like if someone who hates metal says that Children of Bodom sounds like Bloodbath. Because they have barely listened to it.
It doesn't prove anything, other than that said individual has no idea of what he/she is talking about.
WolfieboyMachi 5 months ago
@WolfieboyMachi I only said this was connected to Power metal. To prove this, I have here a quote from Wikipedia: Amaranthe is a Swedish/Danish POWER METAL/melodic death metal band
Zodiac13SFPD0 5 months ago

WolfieboyMachi 5 months ago
@WolfieboyMachi Ok, then check the top comment on this video. Or google the band. If you even then don't think this has anything to do with power metal then that's your personal opinion and not fact
Zodiac13SFPD0 5 months ago
@Zodiac13SFPD0
I couldn't care less about the top comment.
I saw a top comment once that said Emmure was a Metal band.
Top comments doesn't mean anything other than what the majority of people seem to think. And the majority of people are ignorant.
And I never said it didn't have ANYTHING to do with Power Metal. It has the male clean vocals.
But it doesn't have ENOUGH to merit a "Power Metal" anything in it's genre name.
WolfieboyMachi 5 months ago
@WolfieboyMachi I didn't say that either, I just said that's what the band is marketed as
Zodiac13SFPD0 5 months ago
@Zodiac13SFPD0 Don't bother with that idiot, he never gives up, we had the same fight for hours, personally i hear a lot of power metal influences (enough to call it power metal), the genre doesn't have as straight definitions as most other genres, but that has never occurred to him.
thatswedishguy100 5 months ago
@thatswedishguy100
And I'm sorry to say that such a thing DID occur to me. And I am well aware of the boundaries of Power Metal.
And this is not that.
Go listen to some Blind Guardian. THAT'S Power Metal, not this.
Nightwish are on the edge of what can be called Power Metal, and this is even further out.
This Is NOT Power Metal.
WolfieboyMachi 5 months ago
@WolfieboyMachi Yes, blind guardian is a power metal band, and they don't sound like this, but neither sabaton, hammerfall, dungeon, lord or dragonforce, all those are powermetal bands even thou they are so different, even the rainbow song "kill the king" can be considerd power metal. And btw, nightwish is a symphonic metal band. And on a side not, you said in an earlier post that "the majority of people are ignorant", but when it comes to definition it's the majority's decision
thatswedishguy100 5 months ago
@thatswedishguy100
No, it's not. It is what has been established.
WolfieboyMachi 5 months ago
@WolfieboyMachi well, at that point i agree, my friend even count bands like mötorhead and nickleback as metal bands, but most people who watch this are metalheads, they know the difference
thatswedishguy100 5 months ago
@thatswedishguy100
WolfieboyMachi 5 months ago
@WolfieboyMachi Dude, let's not have this discussion AGAIN, it's under... well i don't really know about you, you don't seem to have a life, but i consider it under my dignity to debate this subject again, and even Peter Iwers, one of the founders of melodic death metal consider these to be a power/melodic death metal band, so i know i'm right, at least about the melodic death metal, so what's the point of convincing you?
thatswedishguy100 5 months ago
@thatswedishguy100
Don't insult me.
I'm typing while at work. :P
And what Peter Iwers says doesn't matter.
In fact, being the founder means NOTHING. He just made music that he wanted to make, and it happened to be MDM.
It does not by any means make him an expert on MDM.
And no, they're not MDM. When they DON'T have enough MDM influences to be MDM, they're NOT MDM. Simple as that.
WolfieboyMachi 5 months ago
@WolfieboyMachi If you are so aware of the boundaries of Power metal you would know that symphonic metal is nothing more then any off shot of power metal and that this band instead of adding the symphonic side added in a Techno sound and are nothing by a copy of Visions of Atlantis. Which plays symphonic power metal. It really does not matter what you think any ways.

Epica124 5 months ago
@WolfieboyMachi I wouldn't label it as power metal, but you can't deny the power metal influences here. I mean, a majority of the song may not have it, but the choruses are all soaring vocal melodies that strongly characterize power metal (plus, they have Olof). And for me, the fact that this undeniably catchy band throws in power metal influences is enough for me to give them credit. No everyday mainstream band would ever even know what power metal is.
jibber102 4 months ago
@jibber102
WolfieboyMachi 4 months ago
@WolfieboyMachi You're STILL going on about that!?! Get a life!
thatswedishguy100 5 months ago
@thatswedishguy100
I'm not the one who made a discussion about this.
I only answer the replies I get.
WolfieboyMachi 5 months ago
@Zodiac13SFPD0
That doesn't prove anything.
You know what Wikipedia also said? They said Turisas, Korpiklaani and Amon Amarth were Viking Metal.
That's how much Wikipedia knows about metal.
Only just recently did they get their facts straight about the Viking Metal subgenre.
And even IF they had a clue, it doesn't make it right if it's simply not the case.
Like with Dimmu Borgir's latest album. It was marketed as a Black Metal album. That still doesn't actually make it a Black Metal album

Some idiot calls this pop-metal, and i'm trying to tell him that it's called power-melodic-death-metal since it says so on wikipedia, the newspapers and on the radio, but instead of accepting that he was wrong he prefers insulting me, so i'm searching for more material to back up my arguments, thx
thatswedishguy100 8 months ago
@thatswedishguy100
That guy, whoever it is, is right.
There's barely ANY Melodic Death Metal in this.
And even less of Power Metal.
All it takes is to break down the song and see what influences and elements it's made of.
And it has very little MDM influence, except for a few riffs...
And the only Power Metal it has to offer is the male clean vocals...
And wikipedia can go suck it. They don't know anything about Metal.
