  • An army of guys built these railways across England's green and pleasant land and one bloody Beeching f**ked up most of it. Oh well, TMTCH are GREAT, they are one of the few real folk bands.

  • Yep, I'm stealin' this one.

  • Steam-Punk?

  • My friend's dad is in this band, he is called Stan.

    Good song!

  • @amapolishplummer - that's Stefan Cush's son, then. :-)

His mum is an excellent musician too, so he gets it from both sides!

  • @KrilaSounds Aaaa, ok.

No wonder he is a one man band....

  • love this ethnic stuff, now then, where's me flat cap

  • Absolutly fkn brilliant. A glowing tribute to all the men who laid the foundations of our world back in the 1800's.

  • thanks for posting!!

still cant believe that "Silvertown" didn't make them especially after " waiting for bonaparte" 2 classic albums imo

  • im guessing this is based off of William Turner's "rain, steam, and speed" painting during the Romanticism movement?

  • Haha thnx!!! I've given it 5 stars TWICE now!!! Lol!

  • Omg!!! This is the best song EVAH!!! I just can't get enough of it!!! Btw, second line- what'd it say- 1 man drops a whatty-what? Oh well, basically, this is the best song of all time, and thank you so much for uploading it :-D

  • Head over to "more info" for the lyrics! :-)

  • @Frenchguyal One man drills a powder hole

    The colour of a bruise

    Another blows a bugle

And another man lights the fuse.....

  • Wow...that's exactly my favourite kind of music!

Thank you very much for uploading!

  • Irish? Not Irish? the music is pretty good indeed, so 5 stars

  • Thankyouverymuchindeed! :-)

  • @ramonthe3rd English. I think one of the band members is Scottish, too.

  • are they a Irish band? Certainly sound it.

  • English, Scottish and Welsh, actually. But the folk music from all of these countries have very similar Celtic elements to them.

  • You were obviously.... errr... thinking of England!? ;-)

Rosettes was aimed at the rampant hooliganism at that year's European Championships. It was supposed to be released as a single in April 1989, but while the band were admiring the single artwork, the Hillsborough Tragedy unfolded on TV in front of their eyes. The release was cancelled.

  • Sorry, catching up late.... .The Rose? Do you mean Rosettes? It will be on the new DVD!

  • Love this. I can't believe I haven't listened to these people properly.

  • Well, as they say - no time like the present! :-)

You will find more goodies at their channel /user/tmtchmusic

  • the song should have been more popular

  • J'aime toujours autant 20ans aprés , j'ai de vieux LP et oui, kiss froms green fields from france

  • Surely that must be Bobby Valentino playing the violin.

  • they're still doing gigs as well (although i havent seen them play in years!!) - google them and check them out - i love tmtch!!

  • awesome lyrics

  • Lyrics courtesy of my own vinyl LP!

    Circa 1989

  • Some men build a monument some men build a tomb some men move the world around to give them breathing room some men carve a statue of Isambard Brunel Some men carve a tunnel into hell Soon they'll build a tunnel under England through to France Will it make the tide run quicker? Will the flow of trade advance? Underneath the ocean there is limestone, chalk and sand But coming up through virgin rock will be the human hand!
  • Draughtsmen and surveyors work at pegging out the shaft

Ten of us to breathe the dust, ten to do the graft

Underneath the Pennine range the bodies lie in racks

40 miles of steel and tile follow in their tracks

  • One man drills a powder hole the color of a bruise.

One man sounds the bugle and another one lights the fuse.

Blow up!Pick and shovel it!Carry the earth away.

Brains and brawn with hammers drawn blasting through the day.

    Rain is the cold

    steam is the burn

speed is the way the world turns round

  • Anyone know where you can get the lyrics to this song?

I've googled and googled but to no avail.
