I was seven when Dionne Warwick updated the theme with her vocals. When I look back, I think an updated theme was due. It was 1985 and they were on on time with the update. Danvce Fever was long overdue. I think they used that 1978 disco them until 1985 then changed it in the fall of that year.
They call it SOLID GOLD THE MOVIE! The sequels can be called SOLID GOLD RETURNS! AND SOLID GOLD: FOREVER!
They voice-over teaser trailer could something like this ... The lights, The music, the latest dance routines to the top-ten countdown ... Aaah! What it must've been like to have been on Solid Gold and to have been a SOLID GOLD dancer.
@coreyswadlingcom One of the many things I hold in high regard with the friendship I've maintained with Dionne over all these many years is her desire for privacy. So, I'm very sorry, but I can't help you meet her....or anyone else related to the show.
@coreyswadlingcom Dean and I wrote it in one day. I was hired to be the musical director for the show, and they needed a theme immediately. So, we wrote it in an afternoon, rushed over to Dionne's house to show it to her, she loved it, and the rest is history!!
@coreyswadlingcom Not only did Michael Miller do all the arrangements of all the various ersions of the Solid Gold Theme, but he also composed it. Michael wrote the music, and Dean Pitchford wrote the words. The original singer was Dionne Warwick.
I remember watching this program back in the 80's ... that was the time when TV was really good compared to todays sitcoms ... thanks for the memory jog
@furyianfyre I love Dionne Warwick. She is one of my favorite singers of all time, but in my book, Marilyn McCoo gets the trophy for her rendition of the Solid Gold theme song.
@TV5Alive.....That's funny. It is strange how people hear things so differently. MM is great to look at, but her voice was always flat and one dimensional (no pun intended) to **MY** ear. And I realize that this is just my opinion! Clay
@ClayCarlos True, MM's voice is flat and sometimes off pitch. Dionne's voice on most songs is more versatile and closer to pitch. The reason I say Marilyn's rendition is better because her voice is more heavier with a slight-bit more range (head voice) than Dionne on the vocals for the show's theme. Plus, MM has more of an adult contemporary feel to her sound on the theme in contrast to Dionne's pop standardish, jazzy feel. No need to bald your fists ClayCarlosy. It is just an observation. :-)
imagine this shit in high def, man? Where's Darcel? Remember her? Anyone else think Nancy Kerrigan looks a little like Dionne Warwick. I remember Dionne Warwick's emerald ring. Check out the Michael Jackson wanna be at 1:30...... :)
Hi bigeyezzzzzz yep it was this song she did, when she did i had no clue what it was cus we didnt have solid gold in england so i was like i dnt know it but it is well good!! she performed in Oxford at the Oxford Apollo.

1985-86... The last year "Solid Gold" didn't suck (except for the ill fated Rick Dees season of 1984-85!)
