I like the beat and I'm only part way into the video, but I gotta tell you when that fan sound came in I was seriously looking behind me like what in the world is that noise in my house... lol. Thanks for this tutorial btw
Good golly miss dolly, I came here to learn about sidechaining, but your explanation of how compressors work is the BEST and simplest one I've heard/read. Wish I had seen this video when I was getting started
@BrandonRStoner Duplicate your drum tracks and in #2 make it kick only and sidechain that track. Leave all the other drum sounds in drum track #1 without any sidechaining. Hope this helps
As a beginning Logic user, I've scoured YouTube for tutorials on various tips & tricks, and I gotta say - this is by far the clearest and most concise explanation of compression I've seen. The 'whack-a-mole' analogy is awesome! Thanks, Evan!!!
@rawstarmusic Hi, in Logic, you can use the same kick bus as the side-chain input for a noise gate on another channel (eg a synth line). If you set the reduction to -100 & tweak the threshold (around -10db), the sound running through it will only appear when the kick hits. Play around with the attack, hold, release & reduction to get a nice rhythmic effect. Set the reduction to a + figure & it'll only play when the bus isn't outputting. Hope this helps.
thx a nice enlightenment, great use of tangible items for easy way to make things understood... could you give a detailed explanation of how/to use SENDS, AUX, BUSES AND RETURNS AND GROUPING ? (signal routing) plz and i cant seem to pull up your site please leave a link

I just had the entire digital music industry explained to me. It's all about how loud you can compress a track to be.

@bigbagron thanks a lot...a lot of these sounds were made using NI's komplete 7, the course at dubspot for which I co-designed.

..So can I go both ways? When one instrument ducks down another pops up perfectly in sync with each other by the ghost-bus.
