I lived in Victoria (BC) when this song was around, my first move away from home. It reminds me of great mushroms, the Hindu Kush, and living with no concerns or worries.
i heard it! the 'very collected' line! but to me, it sounds more like 'i know it sounds very collected and jives'... but still. this seems like a good song for misheard lyrics, but that doesn't mean it isn't good!
i think "collected and jealous" makes much more sense with the lines that proceed and follow...unless you think the song is about wanting to be in a jar...
FYI lyrics don't have to make sense to anyone but the songwriter. Even then sometimes they don't. Ask Mr. Plant what the Stairway to Heaven lyrics mean. Even he doesn't know....
milesdaviss49: It really doesn't matter what every lyric site says, because they all get populated from the same initial post, right or wrong. For example, TRY to find CSN&Y's version of Woodstock that doesn't include a quote from the poster " I'm not sure if it's 100% but it sounds good enough to me ". I'm pretty sure it's not even close. But every site I find is the exact same, because it's from the same source. jayson4636 is indeed correct in what he said.
"Aside from "Buckle me in on a highway of sin", the lyrics to this song are terrible. "I know it sounds weird, we collect in jars" could seriously be the worst line of all time. "
That could be the worst line of all time. But it isn't in this song.
The line is:
"I know it sounds very collected and jealous" Yes, he pronounces it weird to fit the cadence of the song. But you're way, way off.
You, my friend, are 100% wrong. The line IS "I know it sounds weird, we collect it in jars" ("it" being Danny Greaves' se**n, not to be crude). Every single lyric site agrees with me...look it up. I can't for the life of me figure out how you heard "I know it sounds very collected and jealous" - purely a figment of your imagination.
@jayson4636 i like when someone has to get staightened out a lil, i mean if ur gonna go off about something at least be right... good lookin out and nice correction dude..
Aside from "Buckle me in on a highway of sin", the lyrics to this song are terrible. "I know it sounds weird, we collect in jars" could seriously be the worst line of all time.
They are having a reunion show in Toronto in September a friend told me. I saw them 4 times before the split. I am so hoping that this reunion produces some new tunes.
You can almost guess what songs a band does will appear on a "Best of..." album. when I heard this song, before I even knew there was one, I thought this would appear on a "Best of Watchmen" album.
Great band - my band covers a few of their songs. They're real hits at shows ^__^
I saw the watchmen at an outdoor concert in 1992 in North Bay Ontario, I have loved them since, This is one of my favorite songs for sure, but anyday now is number one for me. Great to see some great Canadian bands on you tube, Good Things Grow in Canada ;)
Late 90's Canadian rock was dark in a way, but not depressing... Matthew Good Band, Barstool Prophets, Watchmen, Big Wreck all had that feeling to them... best era of music in my opinion.
"We're covered and caked from the last time, I know it sounds weird,we collect it in jars".......

The lines go...
"Look at the pictures you've gotten
Like signals from oncoming cars
We're covered in a cake from the last time
I know it sounds weird, we collect it in jars
Is that just the place that I wanna be?""
corryb1 9 months ago
"I know it sounds weird, we collected in jars" is the correct lyrics to that line. Look it up if you don't believe me.

Can't believe people take the time to critique the lyrics. The song moves you or it doesn't. Great band, great tune. That is all

I always thought he said, "we're cover in cake from the last time" as in the tradition of pushing the wedding cake into each others faces.

@jayson4636 It's about being "we're covered in cake from the last time" ... ever heard of wearing cake on you face?
The idea of a relationship being so on and off again that they "collect it in jars."
fit the cadence my ass. It's called poetic expression in lyrics.

This song is about wanting to escape from the harsh realities of life through promiscuous sex.
milesdaviss49 2 years ago
Actually the song is about having sex in a car to keep a relationship exciting... quite the opposite of promiscuity.
Great song, Great Lyrics.. Music was awesome then... so much soul and diversity.
