  • Beautiful, went into a trance and forgot my worries(n shit)..your like xanax coming through my lap top...Loved it!!

  • Thanks for your comment - Xanax eh ! - havent heard that word for a long time - those Bret novels I think - take care and thanks for watching - Johnson

  • Could you lend me some talent? I don't have any and God seems to have given you too much!

  • Its funny how you think I have talent and I know that I have none at all - suppose it depends on the objective - these take a lot of hard work - i always found the guitar a bit like a computer game - after 5 hours of playing none stop its seemed like minutes to me. - take care - Johnson

  • that was beautiful.

  • thanks for commenting - take care - johnson

  • Are there tabs for this piece??

    I must learn it!

  • I learned this piece from the album ( with tab ) called Masters of the Ragtime guitar which you can get from Amazon or Stefan Grossman Guitar Workshop - Also you can get this piece and tab also from Stefan Grossman Guitar Workshop where the album is a solo album of Lasse Johansson called - Early Jazz for fingerstyle guitar - also you could search out Lasse Johansson web site on Google - you shall see his albums and arrangements on his web site. Goof luck Johnson

  • Johnson, that is a fabulous playing - your economy of motion is something else!

  • thanks David - I always think comfort first with focus on the required pattern for the next postition and keep working through it that way - its not where I am so to speak - its where I need to be next that matters.

  • Thanks for your comments - I wouldn't aspire to become as good as me. I am not so good

  • Awesome stuff. I remember you playing Anji at Holywell High a long long time ago

  • What a memory - I remember trying to decide between playing Anji or Silver Swan. Either way I remember a lot of tutting as I fluffed parts up. Cant remember if I was 15 or 16 and reckon it must have been sometime in 77.

  • すばらしい (Mighty fine! Bravo!)

  • someone made a comment the other day about 'Russian rock n roll' and could I imagine such a thing, (a bit like English Vodka I spose) which has lead me here. Amazing.

  • Thank you for your kind comments

  • i was randomly on youtube and i think i typed in advanced fingerpicking, you came up as the third result. And i am thanking god that you did. this is amazing guitar work a pleasure to listen to. instant 5* and subscription

  • you make me feel good with these comments thanks

  • that was incredible :O

  • thanks very much skoot

  • That's a real inspiration! Thank you.

  • Thanks for your comment Stevie. Makes it worthwhile recording the thing

  • Any tips on fingernail health? You see, I dropped my pick about 10 years ago, and never bothered to find it...

  • I have about 2 or 3 mm free overhang per nail nothing too long. Have to keep them like this and dont allow them to get any longer or they break.

  • Sounds like Rachmaninoff Prelude Op. 3 No. 2 C sharp minor

  • think you are correct; prelude yes

  • thankyou very much for the tips johnsonhogg . I love your playing by the way! keep putting up videos : )

  • i'm learning to play this song . but i find it really hard to play up to tempo because of the right hand. got any tips for right hand technique? Do you have to alternate fingers when playing several notes on one string to get it up to speed?

  • Analyse each section, play in a way that you find comfort, forget the theory. Yes index and second finger for the runs but again why not try resting your little finger on the scratch plate for hand stability. ( although I dont )

So , take each section on its own, dont try to play it all, relax and find comfort and ease.

Tempo - you have between 3,05 mins and 3,35 mins to do this, use it. I play this a little fast but comfortable

    Good luck

  • What an interesting mix, rag and the surreal whimsical Russian sound. Nicely done!

  • Thanks Jon

  • very interesting composition. Man,you play so good.

  • Wow I'm speechless! jeez man!

  • You play so beautifully that it's just stunning. Your technique is so accomplished that the music is delightful and fun without the distraction of seeming like a finger buster. (I have to agree with daddystovepipe, though -- why the reverb/echo?) Thanks, and please post more.

  • Fine picking, you do this fingerbuster justice (would prefer a natural guitar sound though).

  • Very nice and enjoyable ragtime guitar.

    You are good guitarist.

    Also I love Yamaha guitar.

  • Very nice m8y.... Crisp and clean.. Gr8 sound.. 5***** and subbed/shared..

  • I would be in traction for a week if I tried to play that. Brilliant!

  • this is great, and thank you for your video response, i love your style

  • Kudos! You have really been doing your home

work and it shows! I found this one easier than Nightmare or Monk.

    Thanks for sharing!!

  • very nice!!!!! this style is my absolute favorite

  • Brilliant !

  • amazing!!!!

  • Absolutely Brilliant !!! 20stars !

  • Thank you

  • I fell of my chair when I saw that you commented. After years and years of trying to play your arrangements it is really really nice that you comment.I have just pulled out your albums to remind me what you look like. Section 3 is difficult, especially that strange positioning ( I dont know any chord names )on the third change but I tried to work around that. Yes I tried but couldnt get the thing down to 3:08 minutes which upset me. Again thankyou for commenting, it made my day, week, year.

  • I'm really impressed. Congrats.

  • Wow, what an absolutely incredible job with this technically challenging piece!

+ more points for choosing a rag variation, which I love.

How long have you been playing guitar??

  • -thanks a lot for your comments - Ive been playing on and off since the age of about 12, got hooked on kicking mule stuff around 14 but after a number of years realised that it was too specific and not appealing to most. It was only when I stumbled on youtube that I thought I'd put some stuff on for those who may be beginning their journey with this guitar style.

  • what kind of guitar do you play?

  • yamaha FG 340(2)nothing special, bought it around about '83,

  • What talent ! I can't believe it,

can we have some more?? love it.

  • really nice work john !! that is so great!I play the guitar but not as good as you .
