I can still hear a heart beat all the way down to like 50 when I check my own BP but my machine that does it says I am right below 80... What am I doing wrong?

thank you!! soo much!!! you dnt know how much i want to hug you!! not in a bad way. i have my cna testing tomorrow and part of the skills is taking blood pressure. you explained it way better than my teacher did.
Lol.. Have you critical people even check blood pressure instead of reading about it. Yes you do not use your thumb when checking a PULSE. As far as checking a patient's blood pressure your thumb does not conflict with the reading (knowing from experience) u do not hear the pulse in ur thumb at all when holding the stethoscope to the patient's arm.
What about patients with poor circulation? One technique is to locate the brachael artery pulse point at the crease of the forearm, lay the bell over that point, and inflate the cuff till the pulse dissipates, then inflate the cuff 30 MMHG higher. I have an issue hearing the brach pulse through the stethoscope, is that due to poor quality equipment or poor circulation?
@meliexoxo I did not see him using his thumb anywhere--but yes it is true the thumb has it's own pulse thats why you use the index and middle finger to take the radial pulse :)
wow this nigger is an asshole all the guys in expert village are just dumbass nigger. filipinos are much better maybe the best of the very best all time great in the field of medicine
Wow, do NOT look @ this video if you need to pass a test. You are NOT supposed to touch the steth with your thumb,as it has a pulse of it's own! :-/. All that medical school for nothing. He isn't taking the BP the right way.
@bebespider he's taking the BP by LISTENING to the korotkoff sounds. He's not palapting it with a stethoscope. Btw, the new edition of Bate's guide to PE acutally allows the use of the thumb in taking the pulses (esp in the carotid and the radial artery).
I took my CNA RC exam yesterday and even though the lady said I had the correct reading, she failed me because the cuff should've been 2 inches higher !!
I'm currently in nursing school and have just learned this. I had some trouble understanding this in the midst of 20 min. in a crowded class going over it. This answered what questions I had. THANKS WHITE COAT!
I've been taking Levodyn for about a year. I've noticed that my blood pressure has gone down and stabilized, and I no longer have to take chemicals which had negative side effects. Levodyn just makes me feel better. I have recommended this product to people and my brother is now taking it with similar positive results.
PS - The only thing you might want to add to help us newbies is to mentioin that elbows bend and to make sure the bell is FLAT on the skin and to listen for the last DISTINCT sound for the diastolic number.

They are no longer teaching or using this method because it causes damage to the artery and are now using the two step method. Update.
