Someone is trying to imitate Michael Brecker. Not quite....Need more time, practice and more experience. Oh... and ...you got to make the changes...Good drummer...just to much of it...not in context with rest of group or tune. Alot of talent in this group however.
"...So, don't go by me. I was merely expressing my own take on an already great groove." Wasn't that clear enough for you !?!
This isn't a moral issue, either. I found the choice odd. The original beat is tough enough. I'll look at it as a variation on a theme, perhaps. This version is too mechanical. It doesn' feel good.
...Y'all are obviously fine players. I just don't see why you chose this tune to fool with. Making it faster and more syncopated just doesn't work for me. With so many tunes in the American jazz songbook; I wouldn't have picked this one. The original received enough heat for straying from a bop perspective. Yet it was one of Morgan's most requested tunes. So, don't go by me. I was merely expressing my own take on an already great groove.

I agree with aammirr. This is disjointed and dry.

Ruined a perfectly good song.
Nothing, not even the head or the backline streetbeat, was established. Why even bother calling it the 'Sidewinder' ?
This isn't suppose to be about the drummers "chops" or a drummers song; which it has morphed into. Change the key and call it something else.
