Nice! Thanks! Now the tricky part is how to create a "good" selection on the model.
@LourceyPhotography, can you show us a trick or two to create a mask based on the silhouette of the model? I think I saw once it was possible to create another layer, they make it b&w and somehow they converted it to a mask..
the problem I start to run into is the strands of hair. Some photos I do not want to edit that out and cringe when I have to basically give someone a hair cut.
Nice tut here. It's always good for new PS users to see quality videos broke down into essential components like you did. There are a lot of good AND bad videos out there. Thankfully, yours fall into the good side. Please keep up the good work.
Thanks very much for this. This is the first time I have understood anything about layers. Normally explanations seem to assume that you know a lot more about the subject and move far too quickly, clicking back and forth on tools and boxes that they seem to think you already know how to use. I've subscribed.
Great tutorial for a beginner, but I feel that you could have gone a little farther and applied to to dodging or burning etc. What is the button on PS Mac that allows you to see in fullscreen your layer mask?
@ajayalmighty Layer masking is a huge topic - could definitely fill two or three videos with how to do it. Just trying to break down the basics and introduce people to the concept. Thanks for checking out the video- more to come!
Another useful tutorial. I already knew this stuff, but it is essential information for beginning PS users, and you explained it very well. If you ever revisit this topic, you might want to mention one can achieve incremental masking / revealing by using gray values, instead of black & white.
@MasonDixonPhoto Well we certainly don't want people's heads exploding - do we!!?? :) PS can be very overwhelming, so I'm trying to break it up into very small pieces. Thanks for taking the time to comment.
@LourceyPhotography I understand completely. I've been using PS for about 20 years, and I am STILL learning new things about it all the time... which is why I watch video tutorials like the excellent ones you produce!

For a future video, if you combine layer masks with "Blend If" layer options, you'll make people's heads explode. ;)
