Um... no... people of English descent decided to incorporate principles of common law as that was what was already in practice. If the French had settled the east coast that conceivably the legal standard would be Roman law. I am not sure one is better. I also think it would be presumptuous to assume that England had a unique legacy of parliamentary democracy that they adopted because of it seemed like a brilliant idea.

companymac, read your history books, England has given Scotland nothing, we were already a funtioning nation with our own laws which exist to this day, you will also find that it was James VI of Scotland who took over England, so in actual fact Scotland is the very owner of England, you are our slaves, go on we want to hear you beg us not to go independant so that you can get some more of our oil.

lol, companymac, taxing the americans is the thing that they rioted for in the first place (bloody ungratefull bastards...) and to ccsmall: the house of stuart had 2 kings, and when the second one was executed, there wasn't another stuart king till 1660, and then they got kicked out by the glorious revolution, and they put a dutch guy on the throne, AND YOU HAVE TO BE IN SERIOUS PROBLEMS WHEN YOU PLACE A DUTCH GUY ON THE THRONE!
