"He didnt talk for 3 years and stayed up in rafters and hit people with bats"Thats what made his gimmick so amazing have patience man it was the and yes i said THE greatest gimmick of all time the crow gimmick was given time develop had one of the best storys behind it about him falling to darkness and they never strayed from it like wwe has strayed from takers gimmic yes sting didnt always stay completley crow but he never completley changed either so greatest gimmic of all time average in ring
I just hope Sting returns to the colorful gimmick before he retires. Because that is what made him an icon. His "fall" from that former self is what made so many cheer for him & want him to beat Hogan. The problem was they never had him go back to that self. His Crow gimmick didn't continue that connection with the fans that he had before.
BTW, I think Windham was on his way to becoming a legend before his departures in '93 & '94 in WCW happened. In '89 he was the most sought after wrestler.
And if Sting went to WWE, he would have been turned into the biggest jobber there ever was given WWE's track record of what happened to WCW superstars who went there. Maybe if he went there when WWE couldn't afford doing that to him, which was when Austin went there, but that was before the Crow Sting gimmick started. Sting would have jobbed as much as Booker T had he gone there, even worse since he was the face of WCW (which Vince hated) for years.
His matches against Vader were his best ones & showed how great of a worker & how strong he was. As much as I like Hogan, I will always say that Hogan's entrance to WCW ruined Sting's career (& those of many others) & it was mainly because they got rid of 1 of their world titles when they unified them at the June 94 match. They could have kept 1 title to satisfy Hogan & the other for their other heavyweights.
Also Sting spoke about a year after the Crow gimmick started, not 3 years after.
Sting isn't an icon because WCW forced it on fans. Before there ever was a Crow gimmick, Sting was widely loved by the fans & not only in the U.S. but in Japan too. I'm one of those who hates the Crow gimmick because it killed the momentum of what he did as the former colorful Sting. He was never as athletic in that gimmick as he was before when he had legendary matches with Rick Rude, Vader, Muta, Cactus Jack, Nikita Koloff, Ric Flair, and many others.
average wrestler with no mic skills. That about sums him up.

To even question Sting being an Icon is a joke in itself. He IS the Icon. And he is much more.

@Astarothuk Sting WAS The Crow. Brandon Lee was killed while the movie was being filmed. So Sting came in to replace.

@PrinceOfNsanity Sting took the Bradon Lee look. The Crow was out long before he took that gimick.

I think Sting is an icon because of his connection he made with his fans. It over strained that connection with his 20 TNA returns...

Sting has nothing to offer me personally, in TNA at least. But that does'nt mean he does'nt deserve respect & recognition as great in pro wrestling.
