These skits would be a wonderful live theater show...maybe do the same 3 skits every night for 2months or so then change...would be a hit in NYC. If you find the right talent of course.
Any one else think theres a weird sort of bromance between ed and mickey lol. Ed cant go 10 minutes without praising and almost swooning over him lmao.
"Do not start with me, Mama. Do not start. Just do not start. I am trying to hang on to my poise with every fiber of my being. So do not start." I can totally identify.
Watch Vicki's face after she says the line "There's no tellin' what's growin' in them glasses you two are drinkin' out of!" She's just about to break up and start laughing.
I'm glad that Ed has Mickey for a friend. Poor Ed, married to that harpy Eunice and having to put up with that witch mother-in-law Thelma. He needs a friend.
These old clips bring back good memories of when I was a kid in the '70s. We used to watch All in the Family, Mary Tyler Moore Show and the Bob Newhart Show and then Carol Burnett every Saturday night. After Carol Burnett, Houston Wrestling would come on in southeast TX and southwest Louisiana after the local news.
I just can't stop laughing! This segment of the legendary Carol Burnett show was always my favorite, & this particular episode was so outrageously funny. Way to go Tabstarkin & You-Tube - TVLands got nothing on you.
Great episode and something rare. The other cast members were famous for cracking up during the skits. Vicki Lawrence could normally hold it together. Look at her face when they push her out of the chair. SHe is cracking up
So funny. THis was the best show on TV in the 70's
I love the part, "Don't start on me, Mama. Do not start, Do not start. I am trying to hang on to my poise with every fiber of my being, so don't start." And her body movement
Just noticed a little mistake. When the family shows up at Mickeys apartment, the curtain to the kitchen area is completely closed. Ed points out the "Happy 5th sign" , then Ed and Mickey reminisce over mickey's first day on the job, Mama asks to sit down, then the camera shows them all, and this time the curtain to the kitchen area is wide open.
More than likely it's because this particular episode was edited for syndication. They take too much out sometimes and then the episode is lacking. I'd love to have an unedited version of this one! :-)
Yeah, I've watched Carol Burnett in syndication, going back to the late 1970s. Those half hour programs with several skits. I've NEVER seen a full and complete, uncut episode, which I would love to.
I would say on the first take they opened it up to get the beer then they had to do another take when every body lost it getting Viki out of the chair so when the did the second take they left the curtain open.
Also I saw an interview with Carol Burnette and she said they filmed the same show twice in one day and the one with the less "mistakes" made it on TV.
I love the part when Mama leave, and Eunice screams out the door, with a deep sneer on her face and yells: "Don't you move!" Hilarious. Carol Burnett's facial expressions in all her skits are the best in comedy, period.
I feel bad for Mickey having a friend with such a horrible family. It's sweet though that he wants to impress them so much (for the life of me I can't figure out why). If I were Eunice, I'd feel awful for acting that mean!
She actually did start laughing at one time; look at her face once she turns away from Ed and Eunice after commenting "Lord only knows what's growing in them glasses you two are drinkin out of!"
And she is also laughing as she is about to be dumped out of that chair by Mickey Hart after he tells Mama to stick her arms up to brace herself from the fall...so funny.
Watching Part 1 of Mickey's Apartment you can tell that Vicki Lawrence had a very hard time from laughing especially after Mickey told Mother Harper that we're going to have to dump her out of the chair. Absolutely priceless to watch.
I always found it hard to believe that Eunice would be so mean to someone like Mickey! I can see Mama being mean to him, but you'd think Eunice would have some sympathy for him. He's kinda a pitiful underdog like HERSELF!
That was the pathos of Eunice: she always thought she had talent that was untapped; singing talent, acting talent. But she was pitifully UNtalented. You could feel compassion for her, but she was so damned annoying! All of "the family" were ignorant, tactless, endlessly critical and yammering emotional cripples.
Only Mama would have the nerve to go thru Mickey Harts closet. That spiteful old witch, along with Eunice belong in a sanitarium. If I was Mickey, I'd throw both their asses out in the street. Please keep posting the Family
Episodes. They are comic gems, even after all these years.
lol, when they dump Mama out of that chair onto the floor, it's just so freakin funny...i love that little "thud" you hear when Mama lands...lol. great posting, tab.

@WOTEetynn Lol, she meant lots of different "races" or ethnic people living in the neighborhood.
