media simply caters to both sexes. men like being funny, and women like being sexy. thats also why fat, ugly men can be in comedy, and the girl must be sexy. or have some sort of shtick. and for a guy to be sexy, he must be gay.

The reason adverts have dumb guys and the women are heros that save the day is that women have greater control over the bank account. Both people obviously have a card, but it's usually the women who will make the buying decision.

This is just my opinion on one particular commercial I seen a couple of years ago, which I thought wasn't a stereotype in a way. I seen one commerical where a guy calls his friend who was female to fix his car and she does it. I think it was a Secret deodorant commercial. I thought it was an interesting commercial, not because she was the attractive woman with the average joe.

What I found interesting was that it showed that women too can fix cars. Even though there are women who fix cars, you don't see it on TV or commericals much, it's always a man doing a car. I do have agree, men in commercials who are displayed as lazy, ugly, and stupid in commericals.

it sounds interesting. Ofcourse in many cases where a woman is a builder in a commercial, she is also very attractive and therefore not your average builder!! lol

I have to agree with you on that as well. There is another stereotype that in cleaning adverts is that they are the ones who just sit in the living room doing nothing while the woman cleans.  That also goes with cooking or food commercials.
